AbstractDevelopment of a versatile, sustainable and efficient photosynthesis system that integrates intricate catalytic networks and energy modules at the same location is of considerable future value to energy transformation. In the present study, we develop a coenzyme-mediated supramolecular host-guest semibiological system that combines artificial and enzymatic catalysis for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution from alcohol dehydrogenation. This approach involves modification of the microenvironment of a dithiolene-embedded metal-organic cage to trap an organic dye and NADH molecule simultaneously, serving as a hydrogenase analogue to induce effective proton reduction inside the artificial host. This abiotic photocatalytic system is further embedded into the pocket of the alcohol dehydrogenase to couple enzymatic alcohol dehydrogenation. This host-guest approach allows in situ regeneration of NAD+/NADH couple to transfer protons and electrons between the two catalytic cycles, thereby paving a unique avenue for a synergic combination of abiotic and biotic synthetic sequences for photocatalytic fuel and chemical transformation.

The arene ligand exchange mechanism of slipped arene triple deckers [Bis{(η5-CpR)Co}-μ-{η4:η4-arene}] (R = Me5, 1,2,4 tri-tert butyl, arene = benzene, toluene) 1 was studied by 1H-NMR spectroscopy for different concentrations and solvents. It has been found that triple deckers of type 1 decompose slowly in solution. A unique equilibrium, between these triple deckers and the mixed sandwich complexes [(η6-arene)Co(η5-CpR)] and 14 e [(η5-Cp)Co]solv fragments generated in situ by decomposition o f 1 exists. In addition to this equilibrium arene lability of the thus formed mixed sandwich complex type has been detected by NMR making slipped triple deckers 1 ideal single source compounds for the generation of two [(η5-Cp)Co] fragments in one reaction step. Such fragments are valuable metal ligand components with high synthetic utility in organometallic chemistry.

AbstractThe emission of nitrogen oxides (NOx) increases year by year, causing serious problems to our livelihoods. The photocatalytic oxidation of NOx has attracted more attention recently because of its efficient removal of NOx, especially for low concentrations of NOx. In this review, the mechanism of the photocatalytic oxidation of NOx is described. Then, the recent progress on the development of photocatalysts is reviewed according to the categories of inorganic semiconductors, bismuth-based compounds, nitrogen carbide polymer, and metal organic frameworks (MOFs). In addition, the photoelectrocatalytic oxidation of NOx, a method involving the application of an external voltage on the photocatalytic system to further increase the removal efficiency of NOx, and its progress are summarized. Finally, we outline the remaining challenges and provide our perspectives on the future directions for the photocatalytic oxidation of NOx.
