The present work describes the development of biomimetic composites materials for bone tissue substitution and repair. At this purpose a biomimetic approach was used and apatitic phases were nucleated on macromolecular matrices like natural collagen, which act as template and induce peculiar physico-chemical features in the mineral phase.

The development of biomimetic materials for osteochondral tissue substitution and repair can be the start for a revolution in the classical procedures of orthopaedic surgery. The persisting problems, linked to the absence of a complete functional recovery of the articulation and to the stabilization and protraction of the half-life of an articular prosthesis can be overcome by the new class of osteochondral substitutes. The characteristics of the artificial bone tissue are drastically different from those of the natural one and this is mainly due to the absence of the peculiar self-organizing interaction between apatite crystals and proteic matrix. At this purpose a biomimetic approach was used in which apatitic phases are directly nucleated on different macromolecular matrices, which act as template and induce peculiar physico-chemical features in the mineral phase to create a substitute for osteochondral lesions. In particular a biologically inspired approach was applied to nucleate bone-like hydroxyapatite (HA) nanocrystals on self-assembling collagen fibers. Biohybrid composite materials were obtained mimicking composition, structure and morphology of human osteochondral interfaces. [1–4]

2,6-Dichloro-3,5-diformyl-4,4-dimethyl-1,4-dihydropyridines IIb-IId have been prepared by the Vilsmeier-Haack reaction of glutarimides I, and possible chemical transformations of the trimethyl derivative IIc have been examined. The bis-oxime IVa and bis-(2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone) Vb are formed by the respective reactions of the formyl groups. The nucleophilic substitutions of chlorine give the corresponding derivatives IX-XII. The cyclocondensation reaction of compound IIc with the respective reagents gives the condensed heterocyclic derivatives VI, XIII, and XIV. The physico-chemical characteristics of the II-XIV compounds prepared are described.

Abstract Surfactants are a group of compounds with specific physico-chemical properties and therefore they are used in many spheres of human activity. Surface-active substances undergo various physico-chemical transformations, what enables their migration between different elements of the environment and may lead to its pollution. Selected anionic surfactants were determined in samples of water from the Klodnica river (25 samples) and bottom sediments (25 samples). In most samples the presence of anionic analytes was confirmed. The determined concentration levels were in the range of up to 0.2105±0.0023 mg/dm3 or 0.207±0.010 μg/kg (surface water and bottom sediment samples, respectively). Comparing the concentrations of certain analytes found in liquid and solid environmental samples, it can be noticed that the surfactants containing a shorter alkyl chain in a molecule were present in higher concentrations in liquid samples (hydrophobicity increasing with the increasing length of the chain) and the other way round.
