By exploiting the dispersibility and rigidity of boehmite nanofibers (BNFs) with a high aspect ratio of 4 nm in diameter and several micrometers in length, multiwall-carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were successfully dispersed in aqueous solutions. In these sols, the MWCNTs were dispersed at a ratio of about 5–8% relative to BNFs. Self-standing BNF–nanotube films were also obtained by filtering these dispersions and showing their functionality. These films can be expected to be applied to sensing materials.

In this study, non-irradiated and weathered multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) obtained through irradiation, were studied as adsorbents for BPA, both nanomaterials being characterized before and after the adsorption process. The objectives of our investigation were to compare the characteristics of non-irradiated and irradiated MWCNTs, to evaluate the adsorption capacity of BPA by pristine and irradiated MWCNTs and to determine the variation of the kinetic, sorption and thermodynamic parameters during sorption process using both sorbents.

A new type of gas sensor was realized by directly depositing carbon nanotube on nano channels of the anodic alumina oxide (AAO) fabricated on p-type silicon substrate. The carbon nanotubes were synthesized by thermal chemical vapor deposition at a very high temperature of 1200 oC to improve the crystallinity. The device fabrication process was also developed. The contact of carbon nanotubes and p-type Si substrate showed a Schottky behavior, and the Schottky barrier height increased with exposure to gases while the overall conductivity decreased. The sensors showed fast response and recovery to ammonia gas upon the filling (400 mTorr) and evacuation.

Magnetic multi-wall carbon nanotubes (M-MWCNTs) were used as an adsorbent for removal of furaltadone from aqueous solutions, and the adsorption behaviors were investigated by varying pH, sorbent amount, sorption time and temperature. The results showed that the adsorption efficiency of furaltadone reached 97% when the dosage of M-MWCNT was 0.45 g · L−1, the pH was 7 and the adsorption time was 150 min. The kinetic data showed that the pseudo-second-order model can fit the adsorption kinetics. The sorption data could be well explained by the Langmuir model under different temperatures. The adsorption process was influenced by both intraparticle diffusion and external mass transfer. The experimental data analysis indicated that the electrostatic attraction and π–π stacking interactions between M-MWCNT and furaltadone might be the adsorption mechanism. Thermodynamic analysis reflected that adsorption of furaltadone on the M-MWCNT was spontaneous and exothermic. Our study showed that M-MWCNTs can be used as a potential adsorbent for removal of furaltadone from water and wastewater.
