For the first time in the open literature, code validation quality data and a well-tested, highly reliable computational methodology are employed to isolate the true performance of seven turbulence treatments in discrete jet film cooling. The present research examines both computational and high quality experimental data for two length-to-diameter ratios of a row of streamwise injected, cylindrical film holes. These two cases are used to document the performance of the following turbulence treatments: 1) standard k-ε model with generalized wall functions; 2) standard k-ε model with non-equilibrium wall functions: 3) Renormalization Group k-ε (RNG) model with generalized wall functions; 4) RNG model with non-equilibrium wall functions: 51 standard k-ε model with two-layer turbulence wall treatment; 6) Reynolds Stress Model (RSM) with generalized wall functions; and 7) RSM with non-equilibrium wall functions. Overall, the standard k-ε turbulence model with the two-layer near-wall treatment, which resolves the viscous sublayer, produces results that are more consistent with experimental data.

The reaction of 5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-2-phenylchroman-4-one with dibromoalkanes in acetone in the presence of potassium carbonate proceeds according to the Michael’s retro-reaction O-alkylation and leads to the formation of the corresponding 2-(bromo-alkoxy) chalcones. The structure of the synthesized compounds was confirmed by IR-, 1H- and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. The cytotoxic, hepatoprotective and anti-inflammatory effects of chalcone derivatives (2-3) were studied for the first time in vitro and in vivo.

The application of the general principles of the non-equilibrium thermodynamics and stoichiography allows obtaining novel information on the solid-phase transformations happening in multielement and heterophase substances and materials. Without the solid-phase standards, the use of stoichiography allows detecting, identifying and quantitative determining known and unknown crystalline and amorphous phases being of constant or variable composition. For the first time, reliable results concerning evolution of solid products during preparation of the Mo-V-Te-Nb-O catalyst of propane ammoxidation are presented.

1,1-Diphenylindan was treated with one molecule of bromine. It yielded a monobromide, which was condensed with methyl and ethyl alcohols, piperidine, p-toluidine, and aniline. With aqueous solutions of potassium carbonate, the monobromide directly gave rise to 1,1-diphenylindene and small quantities of diphenylindanyl ether. The condensation of the monobromide with sodium ethyl malonate yielded ethyl 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanmalonate from which 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanmalonic and 1-1-diphenyl-3-indanacetic acids were prepared. A few derivatives of these acids were also obtained. To establish the constitution of 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanacetic acid and, hence, that of the monobromide and of the other compounds, this acid was prepared directly from 3,3-diphenyl-1-indanone by a Reformatsky reaction with ethyl bromoacetate. The method of preparation of 1,1-diphenylindan has been improved, 1,1-diphenylindene has been obtained by new methods, and the following compounds are described, as far as the authors are aware, for the first time: 3-bromo-1,1-diphenylindan, 3-methoxy-1,1-diphenylindan, 3-ethoxy-1,1-diphenylindan, 3-N-piperidyl-1,1-diphenylindan, N-phenyl-1,1-diphenyl-3-indanamine, N-p-tolyl-1,1-diphenyl-3-indanamine, ethyl 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanmalonate, 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanmalonic acid, 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanmalonic acid p-nitrobenzyl ester, silver salt of 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanmalonic acid, 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanacetic acid, 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanacetic acid p-nitrobenzyl ester, silver salt of 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanacetic acid, 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanacetanilide, 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanacetamide, 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanacetonitrile, 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanethylamine hydrochloride, ethyl 3-hydroxy-1,1-diphenyl-3-indanacetate, ethyl 1,1-diphenyl-3-indeneacetate, 1,1-diphenyl-3-indeneacetic acid, silver salt of 1,1-diphenyl-3-indeneacetic acid, 1,1-diphenyl-3-indeneacetic acid p-nitrobenzyl ester, ethyl 1,1-diphenyl-3-indanacetate.

Cobalt ferrite CoFe2O4tabular crystals were synthesized via two-step coprecipitation using non-equilibrium crystallization conditions by supplying a solution of CoCl26H2O and FeCl36H2O and a solution containing NaOH at a later crystallization stage. Mean particle size of ~16.5 nm CoFe2O4primary particles synthesized by coprecipitation showed non-oriented structure. Effect of heat treatment temperature on the microstructures of the final CoFe2O4crystal was examined, orderly arranged plate-like tabular CoFe2O4crystals were formed under calcination at 800 °C. Magnetic hyspersis loops measured at 300 and 5 K indicated the anisotropy in the tabular crystals.
