This paper describes investigations into the antenna mutual coupling (MC) effect on channel estimation and capacity of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication system. The presented investigations close the gap existing in the previous works which assessed the effect of mutual coupling on MIMO capacity under the assumption of availability of perfect channel state information (CSI) at the receiver. The new approach assumes that the perfect CSI is not available due to channel estimation errors. The investigations are carried out for different spacing between array antenna elements producing a varying effect of mutual coupling on the channel estimation and the resulting MIMO channel capacity.

Multiple input-multiple output (MIMO) is a multipath diversity exploring approach which is emerged with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) to produce MIMO-OFDM that is widely used in wireless communications. This paper presents a discrete Hart-ley transform (DHT) precoded MIMO-OFDM system over multipath frequency-selective fading channel with large-size quadrature amplitude modulation (16-QAM, 64-QAM and 256-QAM). A mathematical models for the BER and channel capacity over mutlipath fading channels are also derived in this paper. Average Bit-error-rate (BER) and channel capacity of the presented system is considered and compared with that of the traditional MIMO-OFDM. Simulation results shows that the transmission performance and channel capacity of the proposed schemes is better than that of the traditional MIMO-OFDM without a pre-coder.

We study the information rates of noncoherent, stationary, Gaussian, and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) flat-fading channels that are achievable with nearest neighbor decoding and pilot-aided channel estimation. In particular, we investigate the behavior of these achievable rates in the limit as the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) tends to infinity by analyzing the capacity pre-log, which is defined as the limiting ratio of the capacity to the logarithm of the SNR as the SNR tends to infinity. We demonstrate that a scheme estimating the channel using pilot symbols and detecting the message using nearest neighbor decoding (while assuming that the channel estimation is perfect) essentially achieves the capacity pre-log of noncoherent multiple-input single-output flat-fading channels, and it essentially achieves the best so far known lower bound on the capacity pre-log of noncoherent MIMO flat-fading channels. Extending the analysis to fading multiple-access channels reveals interesting relationships between the number of antennas and Doppler bandwidth in the comparative performance of joint transmission and time division multiple-access.

In this paper, we investigate the multiple input multiple output (MIMO) direct sequence bipolar pulse amplitude modulation (DS-BPAM) ultra wideband (UWB) system over indoor multipath fading channels based on the research of Alamouti space-time block codes (STBC) and DS-BPAM UWB system. Selective Rake (SRake) receiver is employed in this paper in order to deal with the multipath effects. Theoretical bit error probability of the MIMO DS-BPAM UWB system with SRake receiver is derived. Simulation results of the MIMO DS-BPAM UWB system with SRake receiver and conventional coherent receiver over multipath fading channels are provided. The results show the efficiency of the MIMO DS-BPAM UWB system with SRake receiver.
