In view of the increasingly important position of information security in the development of smart grids, this paper studies the threats and defense strategies of smart grids to information security, and provides guidance for how to solve the information security problems of smart grids. At the same time, the concept and threat of smart grid are described. On this basis, several defense strategies are proposed, including encryption, digital signature recognition, firewall, antivirus, intrusion detection, physical isolation and in- depth defense of information security. The analysis shows that the threat faced by human beings is information security. Information security should focus on the development and construction of smart grids. Several defense strategies are feasible and can provide effective support for the safe and stable operation of smart grids.

Communication plays a key role in the effective management of virtual power plants (VPPs). For effective and stable operation of VPPs, a reliable, secure, and standardized communication infrastructure is required. In the literature, efforts were made to develop this based on industry standards, such as the IEC 60870-5-104, OpenADR 2.0b and IEC 61850. Due to its global acceptance and strong object-oriented information models, IEC 61850 standard-based communication is preferred for smart grid operations, including VPPs. However, communication models based on IEC 61850 present cybersecurity and scalability challenges. To address this issue, this paper presents an eXtensible Message Presence Protocol (XMPP)-based IEC 61850 communication for VPPs. Firstly, a full mapping of IEC 61850 messages for VPP energy management is carried out. Secondly, XMPP-based single- and multiple-domain communications are demonstrated. Finally, a federation concept has been added to facilitate communication in multi-domain communication networks. These models show that a standard communication model can be implemented with IEC 61850 and XMPP, not only for VPPs but other wide-area communication implementations in smart grids. This not only facilitates plug-and-play (PnP) with easy component additions but secures smart grid communication against cyber-attacks.

Abstract With the continuous construction and development of domestic power grids, the state has put forward many effective strategies to achieve the effectiveness and durability of energy supply, in order to ensure the stable operation of the power grid and the construction of smart grids. One of the most important components of the smart grid is various communication technologies. 5G network slicing is a typical application of the smart grid, because the wide-area distributed grid has greater requirements for low latency, high reliability and security. And 5G network slicing has the ability to meet its requirements. This paper analyzes the principle of 5G network slicing, analyzes the end-to-end isolation scheme of network slicing and the current smart grid slicing business model and existing problems, and proposes an effective solution for building a smart 5G slicing network.

As a modern power infrastructure, smart grids have great advantages over traditional power grids, but their effective operation is largely restricted by information security. Hence, a smart grid information security risk assessment (ISRA) method is proposed. This method combines D numbers to improve the classical analytic hierarchy process (D-AHP) independent of experts’ subjective qualitative assessment and then integrated with grey theory which does not require complete and unambiguous information. First, we establish a smart grid ISRA system according to the characteristics and development reality of smart grid technology. The proposed system includes 5 first-level indexes as an intelligent terminal, a wireless communication channel, password security, application code and embedded system, and corresponding 13 secondary indexes. Second, a D-AHP method aimed at the uncertainty of human subjective judgment and fuzziness of language assessment is used to obtain the weight of each index. The D-AHP method is then combined with the grey assessment matrix solved by grey theory, to obtain the comprehensive assessment value and corresponding risk grade. With a smart grid demonstration project in Suzhou, China, as an example, an empirical study is carried out using expert scoring. The comprehensive assessment risk value is 3.8199, and the corresponding risk level is moderate. The results of this work could serve as a reference for the information security protection of smart grids.

The smart grid is the main practice trend of efficient transmission of modernpower resources. It has the advantages of good power transmission, low resource loss and strong correlationof resources transmission. Therefore, it occupies an important position in large-scale utilization of powerresources. Thus, this paper, based on the theory of smart grid, discusses the research direction, practicalinnovation and application of smart grid, provides theoretical reference for the comprehensive utilization ofpower resources in China, and promotes the intelligent exploration of domestic electric resource application.

Las smart grids han sido concebidas como la combinación de la red eléctrica tradicional (generación, transmisión, distribución, y comercialización, incluyendo las energías alternativas) con las redes de comunicaciones electrónicas. Este concepto revoluciona la administración, supervisión, y mantenimiento de la red eléctrica, volviéndola inteligente ante sobrecargas, caídas, apagones, caídas de tensión disminuyendo los tiempos de respuesta ante estos problemas. En este trabajo se analizan las tecnologías de redes de datos y comunicaciones electrónicas implicadas en este nuevo concepto de gestión eficiente de la electricidad. En la primera sección se abordan conceptos introductorios para entender las diferencias entre las redes eléctricas tradicionales y las smart grids, luego se realiza un análisis de las arquitecturas y requerimientos de diseño de una smart grid, para en la siguiente sección elaborar una revisión de las tecnologías de comunicaciones actualmente usadas en smart grids, para finalmente analizar los retos de diseño, líneas de investigación y estandarización actuales en las tecnologías de smart grids. En la última sección se anexan las conclusiones de la realización de este trabajo.

Interruptions in electricity supply may have a series of failures that can affect banking, telecommunications, traffic, and safety sectors. Due to the two-way interactive abilities, Smart Grid allows consumers to automatically redirect on failure, or shut down of the equipment. Smart Grid technologies are the costly ones; however, due to the mitigation of possible problems, they are economically sound. Smart grids can't operate without smart meters, which may easily transmit real-time power consumption data to energy data centers, helping the consumer to make effective decisions about how much energy to use and at what time of day. Smart Grid meters do allow the consumer to track and reduce energy consumption bills during peak hours and increase the corresponding consumption during minimum hours. At a higher level of management (e.g., on the level of separate region or country), the Smart Grid distribution system operators have the opportunity to increase the reliability of power supply primarily by detecting or preventing emergencies. Ukraine's energy system is currently outdated and cannot withstand current loads. High levels of wear of the main and auxiliary equipment of the power system and uneven load distribution in the network often lead to emergencies and power outages. The Smart Grid achievements and energy sustainability are also related to the energy trilemma, which consists of key core dimensions– Energy Security, Energy Equity, and Environmental Sustainability. To be competitive in the world energy market, the country has to organize efficiently the cooperation of public/private actors, governments, economic and social agents, environmental issues, and individual consumer behaviors. Ukraine gained 61 positions out of 128 countries in a list in 2019 on the energy trilemma index. In general, Ukraine has a higher than average energy security position and lower than average energy equity, and environmental sustainability positions. Given the fact that the number of renewable energy sources is measured in hundreds and thousands, network management is complicated and requires a Smart Grid rapid response.
