We present evidence that seemingly elementary and non-composite objects, namely isolated static fermions in certain gauge Higgs theories, have a mass spectrum corresponding to localized excitations of the surrounding gauge and Higgs fields.

In this paper, we study the mass spectrum and decay constants of ground state (1S) and radially excited states (2S and 3S) of heavy equal mass pseudoscalar mesons, ηc and ηb. We have employed the framework of Bethe–Salpeter equation (BSE) under Covariant Instantaneous Ansatz (CIA). Our predictions are in reasonable agreement with the data on available states and results of other models.

We study the radiative decay widths of vector quarkonia for the process of J/ψ(nS)→ηc(nS)γ and Υ(nS)→ηb(nS)γ (for principal quantum numbers n=1,2,3) in the framework of Bethe-Salpeter equation under the covariant instantaneous ansatz using a 4×4 form of BSE. The parameters of the framework were determined by a fit to the mass spectrum of ground states of pseudoscalar and vector quarkonia, such as ηc, ηb, J/ψ, and Υ. These input parameters so fixed were found to give good agreements with data on mass spectra of ground and excited states of pseudoscalar and vector quarkonia, leptonic decay constants of pseudoscalar and vector quarkonia, two-photon decays, and two-gluon decays of pseudoscalar quarkonia in our recent paper. With these input parameters so fixed, the radiative decay widths of ground (1S) and excited (2S,3S) states of heavy vector quarkonia (J/Ψ and Υ) are calculated and found to be in reasonable agreement with data.

In the 50s of the last century, M.I. Danysh and J. Pniewski discovered the existence of hypernuclei. In them under the action of cosmic rays, one of nucleons was turned into an excited state. In this paper, it is shown that masses and magnetic moments of such excitations coincide with properties of some elementary particles. Based on this consent, a number of elementary particles should be considered as excited states of different combinations of electrons, positrons, and protons, rather than as composed from quarks with a fractional charge.

The mass spectrum of spin-1/2 baryons in both parity channels is computed using the methods of lattice QCD in the quenched approximation. An anisotropic action with anisotropy as/at = 3 is employed, using tree-level coefficients with tadpole improvement. Clear splittings from the nucleon ground state are observed with smeared operators and 500 configurations. Methods for extracting the first excited states are investigated. Using the quark mass dependence of the masses, qualitative comparisons are made with previous calculations and experiment.

The higher order corrections of SU(3) rotating excited states to the Gell-Mann–Okubo Relations (or GOR) are presented in the standard SU(3) Skyrme model. The Improved GOR (or IGOR) are obtained. The results show the IGOR for decuplet up to the third order and for octet up to the second order are much compatible with the experimental data. But things become quite inadequate for the octet to the third order. In order to overcome the inadequacy, a heuristic discussion is presented. The properties of SU(3) rotating excited states 27-let (with spin [Formula: see text] or [Formula: see text]), 10*-let (with spin [Formula: see text]) and 35-let (with spin [Formula: see text]) are also discussed.

The first radial excitations of axial-vector mesons are considered in the framework of the extended U(3) × U(3) Nambu–Jona-Lasinio model. We calculate the mass spectrum of a1, f1 and also strange axial-vector mesons. For description of radially excited states, we used the form factors of polynomial type of the second order in transverse quark momentum. For the ground- and excited-state mesons consisting of light quarks we have calculated the widths of a number of strong and radiative decays. We got satisfactory agreement with experimental data for the ground states. A set of predictions for the excited states of mesons is given.
