Proper manual material handling (MMH) is the important step leading to the occupational safety of the workers on the shop floor as well as the productivity improvement of the manufacturing process. The objectives of this study are the application of different risk assessment methods, the redesign of the workstation to reduce the occupational risk and the utilization of software package to validate the proposed interventions. As a result, an assembly line of a product is selected as the case study to validate the proposed agenda. Afterwards, four lifting assessment methods, i.e. NIOSH lift equation, Snook Psychophysical Table, OSU Lift guidelines and ACGIH/TLV, are used to assess the hazard risk in the assembly line. After these methods are performed, the results are introduced to recommend the newly designed working conditions, i.e. postures, movements and the barriers. To validate the improved design, new configurations are simulated by the virtual ergonomic program and the ergonomic analysis is performed. The important results, e.g. low back compression and percent of population capable, are calculated by the software to determine the appropriate values which are used as the guidelines for a safe working condition. Moreover, the manufacturing process is also simulated to improve that the ergonomic redesign of the shop floor environment and another consequence of the implementation leads to the significant increase of the productivity.

Revised NIOSH Lifting Equation (RNLE) merupakan sebuah aplikasi yang dibuat oleh National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) yang merupakan sebuah institusi di Amerika yang mengembangkan perangkat penilaian dalam bidang keselamatan dan kesehatan kerja. Salah satu aplikasi yang dikembangkan dinamakan Revised NIOSH Lifting Equation Single Task yang digunakan untuk menguji aktifitas pemindahan barang tanpa perpindahan posisi kaki. Aplikasi yang dibangun akan memberikan penilaian terhadap sistem kerja yang dilakukan oleh seorang pekerja. Salah satu hasil perhitungan dari aplikasi tersebut adalah nilai Lifting Index (LI) yang menyatakan tingkat resiko pekerjaan. Aplikasi RNLE dikembangkan dengan dasar program Microsoft Office Excel. Rumus perhitungan untuk mendapatkan nilai LI dan parameter yang diperlukan disediakan oleh NIOSH dan dapat dipelajari. Penelitian ini mengembangkan rekomendasi perbaikan sistem kerja pada aplikasi RNLE dengan menggunakan program Microsoft Office Excel. Rekomendasi perbaikan yang diutamakan adalah posisi awal benda dan posisi akhir yang sebaiknya diatur sedemikian sehingga mengoptimalkan kemampuan pekerja. Cara optimalisasi yang bisa dilakukan dengan merubah salah satu nilai parameter masukkan tanpa merubah nilai yang lainnya.


The productivity of any organization can be increased by optimizing the work process. Low productivity of workers is one of the reason behind the delay in delivery in manufacturing sector we know that in manufacturing sector labor is prominent thing. Improving the productivity means to make the best possible use of available resources and achieve maximum output. This paper focuses on the productivity of machine as well as labor by using fixtures, updated systematic layout and use of material handling equipment. This paper also covers the, what is productivity, which factors are affecting on productivity and efficiency. Maximum efficiency or productivity is trademark of any successful organization The objective of this paper is to identify the problem in medium scale industry due to time and effort required for any operations is high To tackle and understand a detailed analysis regarding processes using time study and work study. Due to implementation of all the measures the productivity of an organization is increases resulting in reduced effort and time required for operation and all operations done optimally.

Ergonomic improvement in assembly line is the thing which the term generally refers to the scientific method of creating a favorable work and work space which demands to the ability of the workers. Ergonomic configuration is important to guarantee high efficiency, keep away from alignment and damage, and lift fulfillment and confidence among the workforce. More than satisfied and fulfilled workforce, work cells made of ergonomic structure offer noteworthy incentive to producers in terms of lesser output and worker compensation premiums. The system will be reactive or proactive when applying ergonomics. In reactive ergonomics, identifying current problems and take measures to correct them. In proactive ergonomics, seeing areas that can be improved and fix the issues before they become large problems. Each organization ensures the safety and comfortable environment of their workers, in turn they believe in increased quality and in performance ergonomically designed work cells and working equipments are the key area to be concentrated. In this study the problem is analyzed through pareto chart and cause and effect diagram one issue is taken as pallet transfer manual because of this manual pallet transferring workers facing issue like back pain and for this is a solution of ergonomically designed trolley to reduce worker fatigue and the productivity was improved by using major problem solving tools.

Occupational safety and health (OSH) issues have become a major concern to many corporations in Malaysia since the enactment of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994. While safety management system has been researched, only limited literatures have given attention to warehousing. The development of effective partnerships between customers and vendors to identify opportunities for enhancing safety management system. Employee safety behaviour in the workplace is crucial in approaching towards safety compliance and safety performance indicators. The main objective was to test the safety behaviour of the workers. Data were collected throughout the warehousing processes of a multinational electronics manufacturer in Malaysia. A questionnaire has been filled-up by the warehousing employees. This study proposes the theory of planned behaviour were to explain the linkage between customer - vendor partnership and safety behaviour. Respondents were questioned partnership with its customers to systematically improve safety behaviour. Usually most of the occupational accident or disease took place in the material handling operations and activities with cargo interface. The findings of this study show that customer-vendor partnership has a significant and positive relationship on safety behaviour. This approach to be examined for improved safety ownership and the possibility that enhancements would become an essential part of the vendor's processes, systems, and culture. This customer-vendor partnership approach will develop safety improvements for next heights of success. SPSS was applied for processing the data. It was found that information dissemination and collaboration with the client are important. Employees should participate in the safety program as required by the clients so as to obtain the merits of high performance workforce.
