Necessity and reasonability to use gapless connection between contact surfaces of lining straps of work rolls chocks and facing strips of housings (inner lining straps of back-up rolls chocks) to reduce dynamic horizontal forces during rolling and increase durability of equipment are considered. Technical solution is described on base of roughing reversing rolling stand of thick sheet rolling mill 3000 of PJSC ‘ILYICH iron and steel works’ (Mariupol city, Ukraine) which can be used on most heavy loaded sheet and tube rolling mills.

Technical aspects, methods and results of experimental studies of reversing rolling stands details horizontal accelerations of thick sheet rolling mills 3000 and 3600 are shown. Sequence of horizontal movements of bottom work roll with chocks in windows of housings during normal metal-in, steady rolling and metal-out is given. Usage of obtained experimental data and calculation of horizontal forces of work rolls chocks impacts against housings provided execution of stress calculations of technical solutions for increase of rolling stands durability.

Requirements for the quality of finished products is continuously increasing. It adducts to improve existing and develop of new schemes roll design. This paper contains the analysis of technological schemes for rolling channels, which are used in the CIS countries. Were described different ways of rolling channels and design features roughing and finishing passes. The authors were compared schemes of UPN-shaped profiles’ rolling on different Iron and Steel Works. The article describes methods for improving the roll design, proposed and implemented by domestic developers. These methods are based on the gained experiences of flange profiles’ rolling and developments of the modern world. It makes possible to reduce manufacturing costs and improve product quality of the channels.

While attention in the iron and steel industry has been focused on the study and analysis of the flow of materials through the main productive units (blast furnaces, steel works, and rolling mills), the analysis of this flow through the nonproductive units (the mixer and soaking pits) is generally over looked. These two units would create serious bottle necks in production if their capacities were not properly determined before being installed. This paper considers the soaking-pit/rolling-mill complex as a queueing system in which the soaking pits are viewed as units circulating a cyclic queue, and the rolling mill as the service station. A simulation model representing the pit-mill system is developed: (1) To predict the improvement in the capacity of the system through adding more pits (2) To predict the effect of breakdowns and mainte nance or the shutdown of a pit. Several criteria, including their economic aspects, are used to measure the performance of the system. The optimal capacity of the system is determined such that an economic balance between the cost of service and the cost of waiting for that service is achieved.

The paper studies issues of the cross impact of tension and strip gauge at the rolling in the continuous roughing sub-train of the wide strip hot-rolling mill. Functional dependencies and chart of the mathematical model defining interrelation between the specific tension and strip gauge increment are provided. Based on the example of the 2,000 mm hot rolling mill of OJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (OAO MMK), it has been proved that rolling is carried out with tension values which exceed several times allowable values. The paper also considers new technical solutions enhancing the speed mode control algorithms and systems of the electric drives of the wide strip hot-rolling mill continuous subgroup.
