The preservation of heritage buildings is beyond doubt an important problem of today. The examination of a heritage building involves a number of problems, viz. missing design documentation, the need to find extant reports about technical condition of the building structures and building reconstruction projects prepared by different organizations, and nonconformance of data contained in drawings and documents of different organizations. In this paper the abovementioned problems are reviewed exemplified by the case of the federal heritage-listed building "Ekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre", Yekaterinburg. The paper proposes the use of solutions based on information modeling methods for the examination of structures of the abovementioned building and reviews the possibility of employing these methods for upkeeping the building. The article demonstrates the practical value of the proposed application of a BIM model method comprising the building reconstruction stages for the structure survey on a specific example. The method proposed in the paper has a great practical value and can be employed for the improvement of normative and technical documentation, heritage building survey works, and for creating design documentation for restoration of buildings.

The article discusses the main reasons for the physical wear and tear of metal crane beams of industrial buildings at hazardous production facilities. The analysis of the existing methods for determining the physical wear and the residual life of various structures, as well as regulatory and technical documentation, regulating the issue of conducting inspections of structures and the appointment of the technical condition of structures is carried out. The analysis of characteristic defects and damages of welded crane beams and an analysis of their influence on the bearing capacity is made. The dependence of the amount of physical wear and tear on the duration of operation of crane girders has been investigated. A method is proposed for determining the physical wear and tear of individual structures on the basis of their effect on the bearing capacity of the structure and their operational characteristics, based on the existing methods for determining the physical wear of structures of non-industrial buildings. A method is proposed for determining the residual life of metal structures by the Poisson method, depending on the degree of physical wear and the duration of operation. The use of this technique provides more accurately approach the determination of the residual life of building structures when conducting an industrial safety examination. Based on these data, it is more reasonable to approach the reconstruction, strengthening or overhaul of existing structures, as well as their complete or partial replacement.

The influence of temperature effects on the technical condition of cross-rod spatial structures of canopies for inversion roofs of multi-storey residential buildings made of polymer materials is considered on the example of tubular elements made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). For modern multi-storey residential buildings, the current regulatory and technical documentation provides for operational (inversion) roofs, which can accommodate children’s sports grounds, cafes, bars, restaurants, parking lots, tanning salons, as well as gardens and architectural and landscape objects, helicopter platforms, etc. To protect visitors against atmospheric influences, canopies made of spatial core building structures (SCBS), which are operated in the open air, taking into account various climatic influences: high and low temperatures, corresponding humidity, precipitation, etc., are recommended. The elements of the core system are of the greatest interest for taking into account the temperature impact on the technical condition of the developed structure. The general solution of the problem of non-stationary heat transfer of a structure for calculating a two-dimensional temperature field is considered in a nonlinear formulation. The problem of thermal conductivity is considered under the assumption that there is a technical possibility for supplying a coolant inside the cylinder. As a result, there is a heat flow, with which it is possible to adjust the temperature between the outer and inner areas of the cylindrical elements for more efficient installation of the stress-strain state of the entire supporting structure as a whole.

Over the past four decades, building modeling has taken numerous forms utilizing available technologies and software. Building information modeling (BIM) has significantly developed with the continuous advancements in the information technology and hardware industries. The evolution of BIM has attracted many researchers to explore its possible applications in modeling buildings and facilities with a humanitarian heritage value. However, researches have not been limited to that, as they later expanded to test the applicability of BIM in progressing the fields of maintenance and rehabilitation, operation and management, and even checking the durability of such buildings against varying circumstances and usability as well. As a result of a deep literature review, this research is developed to provide a critique of the previous studies conducted on the fields of heritage building information modeling (HBIM), the relevant software and equipment used in those studies, as well as case studies and applications used to demonstrate HBIM capabilities. Also, two case studies of Qasr Al Farid and Al-Bugiry buildings in KSA were implemented in this research to demonstrate the capabilities of HBIM in preserving the heritage value of historic buildings and monuments and to provide possible means of archiving the heritage value of those buildings utilizing state-of-the-art technologies. This study is expected to aid governments and decision makers of heritage buildings in understanding the positive impacts of including the HBIM in their management and operational processes, and will also act as a beneficial guiding tool for academic researchers to identify the gaps and limitations in previous studies to work towards overcoming them.

This paper presents the issues of the inspection, creation of drawings and 3D model of the building in the absence thereof a technical documentation for the object of reconstruction. An approach based on the use of laser scanning technologies and information modeling of objects is proposed. The laser scanning of facades of residential buildings, objects of cultural heritage, industrial enterprises is considered. The proposed approach makes it possible to improve safety during the work on the inspection of building structures, to execute a construction project drawings and specifications with the maximum degree of detail. On the basis of the created three-dimensional model of the object it is possible to subsequently make a static calculation of the building’s structures.

The aim of research is formalization of the expert experience, which is used in processing geometric parameters of building structure degradation, using fuzzy mathematics. Materials that are used to specify fuzzy models are contained in expert assessments and scientific and technical reports on the technical condition of buildings. The information contained in the reports and assessments is presented in text form and is accompanied by a large number of photographs and diagrams. Model specification methods, based on the analysis of such information on the technical state of structures with damages and defects of various types, primarily lead to difficulties associated with the presentation of knowledge and require the formalization of expert knowledge and experience in the form of fuzzy rules. Approbation and adaptation of the rules is carried out in the process of further research taking into account the influence of random loads and fields. The scientific novelty of the work is expanding of the knowledge base due to the geometric parameters of structural degradation, on the basis of which a fuzzy conclusion about their technical state in the systems of fuzzy product rules at different stages of the object's life cycle is realized. The results of the work are presented in the form of a formalized description of the geometric parameters of degradation. The knowledge presented in the work is intended for the development of technical documentation that is used at the pre-project stage of building reconstruction, but the gained experience is the source of information on the basis of which a constructive solution is selected in the design process of analogical objects. In addition, the knowledge gained from the analysis of expert assessments of the state of various designs is necessary for development of automated expert evaluation processing systems. The use of such evaluation systems will significantly reduce the risks of the human factor associated with the errors in the specification of models for predicting the processes of structural failure at various stages of ensuring the reliability and safety of buildings.

The analysis of the results of the examination of the technical condition of buildings and structures of enterprises in the sphere of public utilities has been carried out. The basic principles and methods of functional and technological renovation of architectural objects are revealed, accompanied by the transformation of the architectural space and planning schemes of industrial buildings and structures. A number of architectural and structural studies have been carried out in the direction of finding optimal technical solutions for repair, restoration of operational ability and reconstruction of industrial architecture objects in the field of public services for the purpose of their renovation. Technical reports based on the results of technical condition survey of building constructions of buildings and structures exploited for a long time, especially if there were long breaks in exploitation and maintenance, should include a section “Activities to renovate the object”. There is a need to adjust the regulatory framework for design and construction in order to speed up the process of “survey – renovation project – construction of the object”, as well as to restore and improve the base of the construction industry for the implementation of renovation projects. Complicating factors in the process of developing renovation projects of buildings and structures are the lack of design documentation for most facilities, lack of quality certificates for building structures and materials of buildings and structures, the long process from technical inspection to implementation of working design documentation, lack of interest of city authorities in development and renovation of service facilities.

Malay buildings are synonym with the unique design of full decorative on motive, unique façade design, and roof structured. Most of heritage buildings had been demolished and left out without proper documentation and preserving the building database. Latest mapping systems provide an efficient technique for acquiring dense point clouds in analysing the building structure. This paper aim to explore on the technique acquiring the data for distribution and the façade of building with the Malay architecture design using the laser scanning. Data acquisition was taken for two sites which are Kota Bharu, Kelantan and Alor Setar, Kedah with two different techniques were applied for data collection which are TLS and MLS method. Both methods had succeed in capturing the detail of the features and building in the study area in point cloud form and the analysis of the data was able to analysed on the classification and identification of the Malay building elements and features which still preserved Malay design at the facade and roof element in the study area. As the final results and findings, there were big gaps between the building which still preserved the Malay design in the study area where Kota Bharu recorded 71 units building meanwhile Alor Setar only 15 buildings. The results showed that, most of the Traditional Malay building still being preserved in Kota Bharu compared to Alor Setar.
