In the technical practice there is very often a need of axial force determination in the important structural elements of a building during its construction or operational state with adequate precision. The magnetoelastic method is one of the five experimental techniques usually used for that purpose in civil engineering practice. The modified magnetoelastic method is especially aimed on experimental evaluation of the axial forces in the prestressed steel reinforcements on prestressed concrete structures and it is usable not only for newly built structures but in particular for existing ones. New information and knowledge about practical application of the new approach based on the magnetoelastic principle is introduced in the paper. The results of three experiments are summarized, which were realized on the full locked cable PV 150 standardly used as a cable stay strand, on the MUKUSOL threadbar 15FS 0000 generally applied as a temporary prestressed reinforcement and on some prestressed tendons of an existing concrete road bridge, which is about thirty years old.

The paper presents practical application of the new approach based on the magnetoelastic principle, especially aimed on experimental evaluation of the axial forces in the prestressed reinforcement on prestressed concrete structures. Described approach is usable not only for newly built structures but in particular for existing ones. The experiment was realized on a prestressed concrete beam dismantled from a bridge that was put out of operation. The influence of a simulated defect of the reinforcement on its magnetoelastic properties has also been investigated. During result evaluation, the knowledge based on the theoretical analysis of the electromagnetic field was used.

<p class="Abstract">A requirement of axial force determination in important structural elements of a building or engineering structure during its construction or operational state is very frequent in technical practice. In civil engineering practice, five experimental techniques are usually used for evaluation of axial tensile forces in these elements. Each of them has its advantages and disadvantages. One of these methods is the magnetoelastic method, that can be used, for example, on engineering structures for experimental determination of the axial forces in prestressed structural elements made of ferromagnetic materials, e.g., prestressed bars, wires and strands. The article presents general principles of the magnetoelastic method, the magnetoelastic sensor layout and actual information and knowledge about practical application of the new approach based on the magnetoelastic principle on prestressed concrete structures. Subsequently, recent results of the experimental verification and the in-situ application of the method are described in the text. The described experimental approach is usable not only for newly built structures but in particular for existing ones. Furthermore, this approach is the only one effectively usable experimental method for determination of the prestressed force on existing prestressed concrete structures in many cases in the technical practice.</p>

The prestressed composite T beam with concrete-filled steel tube is made through welding with half I-beam to connect the concrete-filled circular steel tube. The prestressed reinforcement was equipped on the T-beam. The load-bearing capacity and rigidity of the composite beam was enhanced by using prestressed force. In consideration of applying prestress, the corresponding parts stress and strain from the beginning of applying prestress to the phase of elimination of the pressure is calculated through the process of applying prestress; establish the equation of elastic flexural capacity with different location of neutral axis according to the theoretical analyses. Also use the superposition method to build the equation of the deflection. The computational results show that applying prestress reduces the deformation of the composite structure and the mechanic performance has improved which provide important theoretical basis with practical application in engineering.


The issues of determining the estimated cost of capital construction projects with the involvement of Federal budget funds at the stage of development of project documentation, during verification of the accuracy of determining the estimated cost and the initial (maximum) contract price are considered. On the basis of the assessment of amendments to urban planning legislation for the purpose of implementing a state contract by the contractor ( based on the results of competitive procedures or without competitive procedures by decision of state authorities), the procedure for forming the estimate as part of a state (municipal) contract, the price of which is firm, is presented. For the purpose of mutual settlements between the customer and the contractor for the work performed, the formation of primary accounting documentation, as well as for checking the work performed by regulatory authorities, an example of drawing up an estimate of the state (municipal) contract on the basis of grouping costs according to structural elements and complexes of work is given. The result of the research conducted was the development of regulations and the formation of criteria for their practical application by state bodies, institutions, organizations and other participants in the investment-construction process, as well as recipients of budget funds, who perform the functions of the state (municipal) customer, developer and technical customer.

Analysis of trajectory such as detection of an outlying trajectory can produce inaccurate results due to the existence of noise, an outlying point-locations that can change statistical properties of the trajectory. Some trajectories with noise are repairable by noise filtering or by trajectory-simplification. We herein propose the application of a trajectory-simplification approach in both batch and streaming environments, followed by benchmarking of various outlier-detection algorithms for detection of outlying trajectories from among simplified trajectories. Experimental evaluation in a case study using real-world trajectories from a shipyard in South Korea shows the benefit of the new approach.

A new FEA based design approach of optimal robust fixture configuration is proposed in this paper, which employs a surrogate model through computer experiment to significantly reduce the intensive computing effort involving numerous FEA system response evaluations. The effects of the fixture variability to the workpiece performance variability are assessed through an efficient robustness evaluation method, First Order Reliability Method (FORM), based on the surrogate computer model. Not restricted to primary datum surface, this new approach enables simultaneous determination of robust locator/clamp locations and clamping forces for a deformable workpiece and thus captures interaction between locating and clamping. The effectiveness of this approach is illustrated though an application example. The results of robustness analysis reveal new information and suggest that the optimal solution resulted from deterministic optimization may not be the best solution when the design is subjected to variability.

Wildlife collision data are ubiquitous, though challenging for making ecological inference due to typically irreducible uncertainty relating to the sampling process. We illustrate a new approach that is useful for generating inference from predator data arising from wildlife collisions. By simply conditioning on a second prey species sampled via the same collision process, and by using a biologically realistic numerical response functions, we can produce a coherent numerical response relationship between predator and prey. This relationship can then be used to make inference on the population size of the predator species, including the probability of extinction. The statistical conditioning enables us to account for unmeasured variation in factors influencing the runway strike incidence for individual airports and to enable valid comparisons. A practical application of the approach for testing hypotheses about the distribution and abundance of a predator species is illustrated using the hypothesized red fox incursion into Tasmania, Australia. We estimate that conditional on the numerical response between fox and lagomorph runway strikes on mainland Australia, the predictive probability of observing no runway strikes of foxes in Tasmania after observing 15 lagomorph strikes is 0.001. We conclude there is enough evidence to safely reject the null hypothesis that there is a widespread red fox population in Tasmania at a population density consistent with prey availability. The method is novel and has potential wider application.
