AbstractTo achieve a successful prosthesis it is important to achieve harmony between the maxillomandibular relationship and anatomy of patient. This relationship is not simple opening or closing, but a complex relationship which exists in 3 dimensions. Variations may occur in any direction – vertical, anteroposterior, or mediolateral. Thus, it is essential to record this relationship with the least possible error to obtain a successful prosthesis. However when relating the maxillary and mandibular dental casts, the ultimate accuracy depends on accuracy and dimensional stability of the material and the technique used to record the maxillomandibular relationship.

Abstract A quality-made dental impression is a prerequisite for successful fixed-prosthodontic fabrication and is directly dependent on the dimensional stability, accuracy and flexibility of the elastomeric impression materials, as well as on the appropriately used impression techniques. The purpose of this paper is to provide a literature review of relevant scientific papers which discuss the use of various silicone impression materials, different impression techniques and to evaluate their impact on the dimensional stability and accuracy of the obtained impressions. Scientific papers and studies were selected according to the materials used, the sample size, impression technique, storage time, type of measurements and use of spacer for the period between 2002 and 2016. In the reviewed literature several factors that influence the dimensional stability and accuracy of silicone impression molds, including the choice of the type of viscosity, impression material thickness, impression technique, retention of the impression material on the tray, storage time before the casting, number of castings, hydrophilicity of the material, release of byproducts, contraction after polymerization, thermal contraction and incomplete elastic recovery were presented. The literature review confirmed the lack of standardization of methodologies applied in the research and their great diversity. All findings point to the superiority of the addition silicone compared to the condensation silicone.

This literature review addresses the question of whether membership in a Greek organization contributes to the drinking behaviors of college students. Research findings are divided into these major categories: drinking frequency, motivation/reasons to drink, predicting Greek membership, culture of Greek life, perception bias, and consequences of drinking. Conclusions suggest that to be successful, intervention efforts must focus not only on individuals but also on organizational and institutional layers.

An accurate interocclusal record is essential for the successful delivery of fixed prosthodontic restorations. There are various materials and techniques used to obtain an interocclusal record in order to facilitate mounting of the dental casts on an articulator. The interocclusal record describes the vertical and horizontal relationship of the maxillary and mandibular teeth. In circumstances where the vertical relationship is not supported through a tripod of widely spaced opposing contacts, the interocclusal record will be needed to restore this vertical support to prevent inaccurate mounting. The clinician should understand when an interocclusal record is required and have an awareness of the different materials and techniques available to record an interocclusal registration.

Introduction: The fabrication of dental prosthesis requires the transfer of interocclusal records from patient's mouth to an articulator using different kinds of recording materials. Any inaccuracy in these interocclusal records leads to occlusal error in the final prosthesis. Interocclusal recording materials should have good dimensional stability for precise articulation.Purpose: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate and compare the dimensional stability of two types of interocclusal recording materials at various time intervals.Materials and Methods: The materials used in this study were polyvinylsiloxane (Reprosil Silicone Putty) and alginate (irreversible hydrocolloid). In this experimental study, specimen of polyvinylsiloxane and alginate were prepared from a custom made stainless steel die according to ADA specification no-19, in the form of a disk included three parallel lines on the surface which were provided as an indicator to see the dimensional stability of tested materials. The distance between parallel lines was measured at two fixed points using a traveling micrometer microscope. A total of 20 samples were made from group-A and group-B consisting of ten samples of each group. The measurements were made at time intervals of 1, 24, 48 and 72 hrs. Results: Two readings were taken for each sample at each time interval and the mean was considered to measure the dimensional change by comparing with that of the original measurements in the die. The results obtained were statistically analyzed using SPSS version 12 and paired t test. The result of significance was expressed as p value. P value <0.05 was considered as significance. Both materials showed significant changes ie <0.05.Conclusion: Dimensional stability is influenced by both the “material used” and the “time” factors and was found to decreased dimensional stability as the time factors increased. Group A was dimensionally stable than Group-B.Update Dent. Coll. j: 2017; 7 (1): 10-13

Computerized auditory training (CAT) is a convenient, low-cost approach to improving communication of individuals with hearing loss or other communicative disorders. A number of CAT programs are being marketed to patients and audiologists. The present literature review is an examination of evidence for the effectiveness of CAT in improving speech perception in adults with hearing impairments. Six current CAT programs, used in 9 published studies, were reviewed. In all 9 studies, some benefit of CAT for speech perception was demonstrated. Although these results are encouraging, the overall quality of available evidence remains low, and many programs currently on the market have not yet been evaluated. Thus, caution is needed when selecting CAT programs for specific patients. It is hoped that future researchers will (a) examine a greater number of CAT programs using more rigorous experimental designs, (b) determine which program features and training regimens are most effective, and (c) indicate which patients may benefit from CAT the most.
