To improve the service life of a semirigid base asphalt pavement and prolong its service cycle, it is imperative to conduct long-term performance research before and after pavement disease repair. This study proposes a fatigue damage model for pavement and polymer materials and uses the finite element method to establish a three-dimensional numerical model of a semirigid base asphalt pavement structure. Moreover, it compares and analyzes the mechanical response and fatigue damage of this pavement before and after polymer repair. The evolution law is verified by indoor fatigue tests. The results show that, under a standard load of 0.7 MPa, the vertical displacement and the Mises stress of the vacant position after the polymer repair are reduced by 61% and 69%, respectively. Under a cyclic load of 1.2 MPa, the number of load actions increases from 500,000 to more than 5 million, and the fatigue damage factor of the polymer is reduced by 29%. With the increase in the number of fatigue test loads, the cumulative evolution trend of the fatigue damage is basically consistent with the results of the numerical simulation, which verifies the rationality of the numerical model. This research is relevant for providing a reference for extending the service life of expressways and improving the technical level of expressway maintenance.

Short glass fiber-reinforced (SGFR) thermoplastics are used in many industries manufactured by injection molding which is the most common technique for polymeric parts production. Glass fibers are commonly used as the reinforced material with thermoplastics and injection molding. In this paper, a critical plane-based fatigue damage model is proposed for tension–tension or tension–compression fatigue life prediction of SGFR thermoplastics considering fiber orientation and mean stress effects. Temperature and frequency effects were also included by applying the proposed damage model into a general fatigue model. Model predictions are presented and discussed by comparing with the experimental data from the literature.

The forging die material, a high strength steel designated W513 is considered in this paper. A fatigue damage model, based on thermodynamics and continuum damage mechanics, is constructed in which both the previous damage and the loading sequence are considered. The unknown material parameters in the model are identified from low cycle fatigue tests. Damage evolution under multi-level fatigue loading is investigated. The results show that the fatigue life is closely related to the loading sequence. The fatigue life of the materials with low fatigue loading first followed by high fatigue loading is longer than that for the reversed loading sequence.

To study the fatigue life of asphalt pavement under traffic loads, a 3-D finite element analysis (FEA) Visio-elastic road model was established on the layered theory with ANSYS software. The fatigue damage was calculated with the maximum horizontal tensile strain of asphalt layer bottom based on the fatigue fracture mechanics, when single axis went across. Then the fatigue life was obtained after the fatigue damage occurred in some degree by the Miners linear cumulative damage rule. The results show that it taken 3.4 years when the damage area reached 10% of wheel path area, and 4.5years when reached 45%; while the calculated result was 5.5 years by axial-load conversion method. The analysis shows that the fatigue life of asphalt pavement calculated by fatigue fracture mechanics rule has more significance in practice.
