On 14 January 2008, the MESSENGER spacecraft, during its first flyby around Mercury, recorded the magnetic field structure, which was later called the “double magnetopause”. The role of sodium ions penetrating into the Hermean magnetosphere from the magnetosheath in generation of this structure has been discussed since then. The violation of the symmetry of the plasma parameters at the magnetopause is the cause of the magnetizing current generation. Here, we consider whether the change in the density of sodium ions on both sides of the Hermean magnetopause could be the cause of a wide diamagnetic current in the magnetosphere at its dawn-side boundary observed during the first MESSENGER flyby. In the present paper, we propose an analytical approach that made it possible to determine the magnetosheath Na+ density excess providing the best agreement between the calculation results and the observed magnetic field in the double magnetopause.

Abstract Polyclonal antibodies raised in a rabbit against avian atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) were shown to reduce circulating endogenous ANP levels in Pekin ducks by more than 90%, and were subsequently used to investigate the role of this peptide in volume expansion diuresis and natriuresis. Conscious birds, undergoing a steady-state diuresis and natriuresis maintained by an i.v. infusion of hypotonic saline at a rate of 0·7 ml/min, responded to ANP antiserum (anti-ANP) with an immediate 30% reduction in urine flow rate and sodium excretion which lasted for about 30 min. Plasma arginine vasotocin levels were not changed by anti-ANP whereas circulating angiotensin II concentrations increased immediately following the administration of anti-ANP. Serum from non-immunized normal rabbits produced no changes in the renal and plasma parameters monitored. The results show that the high circulating levels of endogenous ANP associated with volume expansion promote renal salt and fluid excretion and thus have a major physiological role in avian volume homeostasis. ABSTRACTWide-gap a-Si:H films with device quality (Tauc’s optical gap > 1.9eV, σph under AMI.5, 100mW/cm2 illumination ≥ 10−5, Ω−1cm−1, a σph/σ a≥106) have been fabricated. These films are deposited at low substrtate temperatures (TS≤80°C ) either by diluting SiH4 with H2 or optimizing the plasma parameters in a capacitively–coupled RF plasma–CVD reactor. Reduction in the SiH2 bond density and the ESR spin density are also observed. In this study, good film quality is always accompanied by a small deposition rate. Furthermore, σph is nearly the same if the deposition rate and Ts is the same, regardless of other deposition parameters. This suggests that the surface reactions or structural relaxations at the film-growing surface can produce high–quality a–Si:H films even at low TsS, if the deposition rate is low. Results in thermal annealing, light exposure, and solar cell performance confirm that these films have device quality and wide bandgap.
