A review of the taxonomy, ecology, and distribution pattern of 11 species of the genus Kennedya Vent. in relation to the soils and climate of Western Australia is presented. Within a single climatic zone the edaphic factor is shown to be the most important, but it is also shown that "growingperiod" calculated from P/Ew0.75 values can be useful in delineating the climatic requirements of some endemic species. Variability and distribution are discussed in relation to the above factors, the occurrence of self-fertilization, and the influence of previous climates.

There are seven endemic species of Boswellia Roxb. ex Colebr. on Socotra Island, Yemen. Boswellia socotrana Balf. f. is a culturally, economically, and ecologically important species on the island. The name Odina aspleniifolia Balf. f. has been considered as a synonym, but there are morphological differences between the two taxa sufficient to justify their distinction at subspecific rank. Therefore, O. aspleniifolia is transferred to Boswellia as B. socotrana subsp. aspleniifolia (Balf. f.) Lvončik. A lectotype is designated for O. aspleniifolia. The distribution and ecology of both subspecies are discussed, as is their conservation status.

Colombia, with 209 species, is one of the richest countries in terms of bat diversity. This high bat diversity is comprised in nine families and 72 genera. A total of eight species of the families Emballonuridae (n = 1) and Phyllostomidae (n = 7) are listed as endemic to the country. In spite the relevance of Colombiain bat diversity, little is known of these endemic species which are mostly known from the type locality (n=4), whereas for others (n = 2), their taxonomic status is uncertain. Here, available information of endemic bats from Colombia is compiled, and new information on their distribution and conservation is provided. The most included species in publications including the original description (n = 15) was Lonchorhina marinkellei. The only distribution pattern observed for the species evaluated was for Carollia monohernandezi and Vampyressa sinchi that might overlap distributions in the eastern slopes of the Eastern Cordillera. Most endemic species are from the Andean and inter-Andean regions of the country (n = 6). At national level, there are no endemic species in any threatened category; however, at least one species (Lonchorhina marinkellei) is considered as Vulnerable (VU) and one (Saccopteryx antioquensis) as Endangered (EN) by the International Union forConservation of Nature-IUCN.

One of the most important concepts in Panbiogeography is the generalized track, which represents an ancestral biota fragmented by geological events that can be recovered through several methods, including Parsimony analysis of endemicity (PAE) and endemicity analysis (EA). PAE has been frequently used to identify generalized tracks, while EA is primarily designed to find areas of endemicity, but has been recently proposed for identifying generalized tracks as well. In this study we evaluated these methods to find generalized tracks using the distribution of the 84 snake species of Hidalgo. PAE found one generalized track from three individual tracks (Agkistrodon taylori, Crotalus totonacus and Pliocercus elapoides), supported by 89 % of Bootstrap, and EA identified two generalized tracks, with endemicity index values of 2.71-2.96 and 2.84-3.09, respectively. Those areas were transformed to generalized tracks. The first generalized track was retrieved from three individual tracks (Micrurus bernadi, Rhadinaea marcellae and R. quinquelineata), and the second was recovered from two individual tracks (Geophis mutitorques and Thamnophis sumichrasti). These generalized tracks can be considered a unique distribution pattern, because they resembled each other and agreed in shape. When comparing both methods, we noted that both are useful for identifying generalized tracks, and although they can be used independently, we suggest their complementary use. Nevertheless, to obtain accurate results, it is useful to consider theoretical bases of both methods, along with an appropriate choice of the size of the area. Results using small-grid size in EA are ideal for searching biogeographical patterns within geopolitical limits. Furthermore, they can be used for conservation proposals at state level where endemic species become irreplaceable, and where losing them would imply the extinction of unique lineages.

A review of the Australian endemic millipede genus Atelomastix reveals the presence of 28 species, including the type species A. albanyensis Attems, A. nigrescens Attems, and 25 new species from Western Australia, as well as A. solitaria Jeekel from Victoria. All species are from the high rainfall zone of southern Australia. The new species are: A. anancita, A. attemsi, A. bamfordi, A. brennani, A. culleni, A. danksi, A. dendritica, A. ellenae, A. flavognatha, A. francesae, A. gibsoni, A. grandis, A. julianneae, A. lengae, A. longbottomi, A. mainae, A. melindae, A. montana, A. poustiei, A. priona, A. psittacina, A. rubricephala, A. sarahae, A. tigrina and A. tumula. Most species are shown to have extremely small distributions and all are classified as short-range endemic species. Most species have been collected at very few locations, occurring in discontinuous habitats such as mountain ranges, islands, granite outcrops, or fragments of wet forest.

Phoradendron killipii is an endemic species from Colombia, initially known only from the original material. Ten herbarium sheets of this species were found during taxonomic studies of Colombian Viscaceae, allowing to figure out some aspects that remained unclear since P. killipii was published, until now. The morphology of P. killipii fruits and staminate inflorescences is described here for the first time, confirming its generic identity. Evidence of the dioecy of the species and some aspects of its distribution and ecology are also discussed.

We studied a variety of chthoniid pseudoscorpions collected from the semiarid zone of Western Australia. Five new species of Tyrannochthonius Chamberlin, 1929 and three new species of Lagynochthonius Beier, 1951 are named and described from the Pilbara and Gasgoyne regions, and surrounding areas such as Barrow Island. Tyrannochthonius basme, sp. nov. and Lagynochthonius asema, sp. nov. from pisolitic mesas near Pannawonica, T. garthhumphreysi, sp. nov. from limestone karst on Barrow Island, T. souchomalus, sp. nov. from calcrete deposits near Cue, T. billhumphreysi, sp. nov. and L. polydentatus, sp. nov. from a calcrete deposit on Sturt Meadows Station and L. leemouldi, sp. nov. from calcrete near Marble Bar are all considered to represent hypogean species as all exhibit typical troglomorphic adaptations including total loss of eyes and attenuated appendages. New records are provided for T. brooksi Harvey and T. butleri Harvey from Cape Range peninsula. A new epigean species, T. aridus, sp. nov., was found on Barrow Island and the Pilbara mainland. Two further putative new species based upon nymphal specimens from subterranean environments are described but not named owing to the lack of adult specimens. Although the epigean species T. aridus, sp. nov. is relatively widespread, all of the subterranean species are thought to represent short-range endemic species as they have been found at very few locations, all of which occur in localised habitats such as limestone or within mesa formations. Tyrannochthonius chamorro Chamberlin, 1947 from Guam is transferred to the genus Lagynochthonius, creating the new combination Lagynochthonius chamorro (Chamberlin 1947).

Reseda balansae Müll. Arg. (Resedaceae) is a very restricted and endangered Turkish endemic species known only from Mersin province (South Turkey), in a hotspot of biodiversity. It was first collected in 1855, and subsequently described in 1857. Afterwards, it was only collected once again in 1896. In this study we report the rediscovery of these two populations of R. balansae in Turkey more than 120 years after its last known collection. We provide a detailed revised description of this poorly known species and comments about its taxonomy (including designation of a lectotype), distribution and ecology. We also perform the first conservation assessment of the species at a global scale under IUCN categories and criteria, resulting in the proposal of the critically endangered category for the species, which apparently persists in one single population, since the type population has recently been destroyed.
