The liquid-liquid phase diagram for ethylene glycol and triethylamine has been determined. This mixture has a lower consolute temperature of 57.7 0.1 at 0.45 0.1 mole fraction triethylamine. Both carbon dioxide and water lower the lower consolute temperature. The densities and viscosities of solutions just below the lower consolute temperature do not exhibit any abnormalities.

The theory of 'conformal solutions' is used to calculate the liquid-vapour phase diagram of the azeotropic system carbon dioxide-ethylene in the critical region. For the calculations it is sufficient to know the thermodynamic functions of the pure components and the value of one theoretical constant. The calculated results are given as isothermal pressure-mole fraction plots at temperatures from —30 to + 10° C. The theoretical curves agree well with those determined experimentally by Haselden, Newitt & Shah, establishing the usefulness of the theory in this interesting region.

Binary mixtures of pharmaceuticals significantly affect the physical and chemical properties of each component. The aim of this work was to explore the thermal behavior and solid state transformation of binary mixture of atorvastatin calcium and succinic acid. The thermodynamics of binary mixtures of atorvastatin calcium - succinic acid were determined by differential scanning calorimeter. Meanwhile, thermomicroscopy and microstructure were determined by a polarized microscope equipped with a heating stage and camera. The results showed that melting points of atorvastatin calcium and succinic acid respectively were 159.35 and 188.51 °C. The solid-liquid phase diagram of atorvastatin calcium - succinic acid indicates the existence of two eutectic points at 136.57 °C and 120.96 °C respectively on the mole fraction of atorvastatin calcium 0.3 and 0.5. Tamman diagram accurately shows mole fraction of atorvastatin calcium at eutectic point 0.33 and 0.46 respectively for eutectic points 130.0 °C and 134.0 °C. Determination of Jackson’s roughness parameter showed a value of atorvastatin calcium, succinic acid and eutectic mixtures > 2 which indicates that the interfaces of remelting crystals were smooth. Microstructure of remelting crystal of atorvastatin calcium and succinic acid respectively was irregular form and crossed plates. The results of thermomicroscopy of binary mixtures of atorvastatin calcium-succinic acid were consistent with differential scanning calorimetry curves and solid-liquid phase diagram.

Whenever possible, neutralization of alkaline wastewater should involve low-cost acid. It is conventional to make use of carbonic acid produced via the reaction of carbon dioxide (contained in flue gases) with water according to the following equation: Carbon dioxide content in the flue gas stream varies from 10% to 15%. The flue gas stream may either be passed to the wastewater contained in the recarbonizers, or. enter the scrubbers (which are continually sprayed with wastewater) from the bottom in oountercurrent. The reactors, in which recarbonation occurs, have the ability to expand the contact surface between gaseous and liquid phase. This can be achieved by gas phase dispersion in the liquid phase (bubbling), by liquid phase dispersion in the gas phase (spraying), or by bubbling and spraying, and mixing. These concurrent operations are carried out during motion of the disk aerator (which is a patent claim). The authors describe the functioning of the disk aerator, the composition of the wastewater produced during wet gasification of carbide, the chemistry of recarbonation and decarbonation, and the concept of applying the disk aerator so as to make the wastewater fit for reuse (after suitable neutralization) as feeding water in acetylene generators.

Solubility of several anthraquinone derivatives in supercritical carbon dioxide was readily available in the literature, but correcting ability of the existing models was poor. Therefore, in this work, two new models have been developed for better correlation based on solid–liquid phase equilibria. The new model has five adjustable parameters correlating the solubility isotherms as a function of temperature. The accuracy of the proposed models was evaluated by correlating 25 binary systems. The proposed models observed provide the best overall correlations. The overall deviation between the experimental and the correlated results was less than 11.46% in averaged absolute relative deviation (AARD). Moreover, exiting solubility models were also evaluated for all the compounds for the comparison purpose.
