Bituminaria tunetana a new species occurring in Tunisia is described and illustrated. It shows some relationships with B. basaltica from Aeolian Archipelago (Sicily), mainly for having very small flowers and also with B. flaccida from Middle East in having pale colored corolla and few-flowered inflorescences, but the three species differ among them in many diacritic features regarding the leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds. Besides, it is well distinct from B. bituminosa, species widely spread in Sicily and in several countries of the Mediterranean area, for many morphological features, as well as in micro-morphology of seed testa and pod indumentum. Its distribution, ecology and conservation status are also examined. An analytical key of the species belonging to Bituminaria subgen. Bituminaria is also provided.

Species of the genus Lythrum Linnaeus (1753: 446) (Lythraceae) occur in temporary pools and wetlands (Morris, 2007) with about 35 species around the world (Graham, 2007). In the Mediterranean area, there are more than 10 species that mostly occur in temporary pools (Castroviejo Bolibar et al., 1997; Tison et al. 2014). Most of the species are also present in East and Central Asia (Webb, 1968). However, some species are limited to Europe, mostly Western Europe, e.g. L. flexuosum Lagasca (1816: 16) and L. baeticum González-Albo (1936: 141) (Castroviejo Bolibar et al., 1997), some are limited to West Asia, e.g. L. silenoides Boissier & Noë (in Boissier 1856: 55) (Ghazanfar, 2016), while Lythrum salicaria Linnaeus (1753: 446), the loosestrife, is widely distributed in Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania and introduced in North America.

We report a new species of squat lobster from the Plio- cene of Monterotondo Marittimo (Grosseto, Tuscany, Italy). The speci- mens have been assigned to the fossil and extant <em>Munida</em> Leach, 1820, with <em>M. grossetana</em> n. sp. (Munididae Ahyong, Baba, MacPherson &amp; Poore, 2010)<em>. Munida grossetana</em> n. sp. represents the first report for the genus in the Mediterranean area, enlarging the palaeogeographic distribution for the genus.

Two New Families and a New Species of Myxosporeans (Myxozoa, Myxosporea) of the Mediterranean and Black Sea FishesDescriptions of two new families — Polysporoplasmidae fam. n. (Syn. Sphaerosporidae Davis, 1917 in Sitja-Bobadilla, Alvarez-Pellitero, 1995) and Gadimyxidae fam. n. (syn. Parvicapsulidae Schulman, 1953 in Kie et al., 2007), and one new species of myxosporeans —Gadimyxa ovalesp. n. — parasites of fishes of the Mediterranean and the Black Seas are presented. Species of the genus Gadimyxa is found for the first time in the Black Sea.

Allium kyrenium, a new species of Allium sect. Codonoprasum, is described and illustrated from northern Cyprus. It is a very circumscribed geophyte growing on the calcareous cliffs of the Kyrenia range. This diploid species, with a somatic chromosome number 2n = 16, shows close morphological relationships with A. stamineum, a species complex distributed in the eastern Mediterranean area. Its morphology, karyology, leaf anatomy, ecology, conservation status and taxonomical relationships with the allied species belonging to the A. stamineum group are examined.

A new species of Chone (Sabellidae) from the coast of Ustica Island (Mediterranean Sea, north of Sicily) is described. The species, named Chone usticensis sp. nov., is similar to another Mediterranean species, C. filicaudata, in having a long pygidial filiform appendage, but is distinct from this species especially in the peristomium, collar, and in thoracic paleate chaetae shape. A discussion on the presence of the radiolar appendages within the genus Chone is also given.

A new amphipod crustacean, Liljeborgia clytaemnestra sp. nov., is described based on specimens from Malta andthe Bay of Naples. It is quite similar to the sympatric L. dellavallei Stebbing, 1906, but it has narrower and moreregular-sized spines on the propodus of pereiopods 3–4. The longest spine on the dorsolateral border of the pedun-cle of uropod 1 is not strongly elongate in adult males, as in L. dellavallei. The apical spines on the lobes of the tel-son are much longer than in L. dellavallei. L. clytaemnestra sp. nov. is actually more similar to two northeasternAtlantic species, the British L. pallida (Spence Bate, 1857) and the Scandinavian L. brevicornis (Bruzelius, 1859)than to the Mediterranean L. dellavallei. In L. clytaemnestra sp. nov., article 2 of the mandibular palp has setae ondistal third, whilst setae are restricted to tip in the two other species. Article 3 of the mandibular palp is also longerin L. clytaemnestra sp. nov. than in the two Atlantic species. The spines of the outer plate of the maxilliped are lon-ger in L. clytaemnestra sp. nov. than in the two other species. The most distal spine of the propodus of pereiopods3–4 is reduced in L. clytaemnestra sp. nov. and L. brevicornis, but not in L. pallida. The serration of the posteriorborder of the basis of pereiopod 7 is much stronger in L. clytaemnestra sp. nov. than in the two other species.Finally, in L. clytaemnestra sp. nov., the spines of the lobes of the telson are longer than in L. pallida. A lectotypeis designated for L. dellavallei. The presence/absence of a posterodorsal tooth on pleonite 3 in L. dellavallei is dis-cussed. The validity of L. kinahani (Spence Bate, 1862) is questioned. An identification key is proposed for Mediterranean Liljeborgia species.

A new species of metacrangonyctid amphipod crustacean is described from the Salalah coastal plain aquifer in south-western Oman. This is the easternmost record of the group, with representatives previously thought to span from Hispaniola in the Caribbean to the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. Metacrangonyx dhofarensis sp. nov. is unique among metacrangonyctids in the display of a sexually dimorphic armature on pereiopod IV. In addition, its hypertrophied coxal plate IV, reduced plates I-III, coxal plate VII lacking anteroventral lobe, and telson longer than broad are also distinctive. The same holds for the proximal segment of peduncle of antennule, provided with two hypertrophied robust setae on dorsolateral margin. The mandibles of the new species are devoid of palp, a feature shared only with Metacrangonyx antennatus Messouli, El Alami, Coineau & Boutin, 2008. The presence of metacrangonyctids on the coasts of the Arabian Peninsula is probably the result of a vicariant event rather than of an episode of trans-Arabian continental dispersal by a Middle East ancestor. This is in accord with the presumed marine origin of the family and with the existence of a shallow water marine continuum between the current south-western Omani coast and the peri-Mediterranean area -where most species of metacrangonyctids are located - until approximately 16 Ma.

In the beginning of July last, I obtained, from the Frith of Forth, a species of bream, which has not been mentioned by naturalists as inhabiting the British seas. A few days after, I procured, from the same quarter, a second specimen of the same species, each exhibiting a conspicuous dark violet-coloured spot at the base of the upper part of the pectoral fins. (See Plate VI.)On consulting the continental works on Ichthyology, I find this bream to agree best with the description Baron Cuvier has given of the Pagellus acarne, an inhabitant of the Mediterranean; but, as no figure of the fish accompanies his description, the discrimination of the species is rendered somewhat uncertain.
