In order to test the general utility of models developed in the US for explaining university outcomes of Canadian and international students, a three year study is currently underway at four Canadian universities. As a first step in this research, a pilot study with two objectives was conducted at York University in Toronto. The first objective is to compare the experiences and outcomes of domestic and international students in their first year of study. The second objective is to test the applicability of a parsimonious general model of student outcomes derived from examinations of American students to Canadian and international students studying in Canada. The specific outcomes examined are academic achievement, credit completion, and program satisfaction in the first year of study.

This paper reports on a pilot study that was conducted during a technical trial of a new ePortfolio system at a large Australian university. Students from a large (n = 325) first-year educational technology course were given the opportunity to use the new ePortfolio system weekly as part of their reflective practice at the end of the hands-on tutorial classes and also through a blogging assignment that required six posts throughout the semester. Although the students reflecting on their work and ePortfolios themselves are not new concepts, this paper reports how assessment practices can be improved using ePortfolios and how students can improve their reflective practice through simple and regular use throughout the 12-week semester that the study was conducted. From the class, 208 students responded to the survey with the results being positive. The students were able to use the system easily and did not report many problems with crashing or freezing. The lessons learnt form an important part of this study for future iterations with these reported in the paper.

This study aims to assess the implementation of the openness of banking data access policies to improving tax compliance in Indonesia. It cause by the implementation of tax collection using a self-assessment system, thus requiring taxpayer data and information through financial institutions, include banking. Researchers used qualitative descriptive methods. The results of this study are, first, there is support for the implementation of the policy on openness to access to banking data in increasing tax compliance in Indonesia in the form of the issuance of Law Number 9 of 2017 concerning Access to Financial Information. Second, the implementation of banking data disclosure policies to increase tax compliance in Indonesia, including the willingness of target groups to comply with policy outputs, in this case the reporting of customer data by banks to the DGT. Third, the policy of open banking data access does not impede or reduce the number of bank accounts and deposits. Fourth, there are technical obstacles both by the DGT and the banking sector, especially in the first year. Furthermore, there are several inhibiting factors in the implementation of this policy, namely IT factors, and resistance from some circles at the beginning of the emergence of regulations, limited financial resources to process data quickly, so it must be done gradually, in addition to lack of quantity and quality of human resources

This paper presents a detailed analysis of reflexive nominal compounds like self-assessment in English and their counterparts in nine other languages, whose number and use has strongly increased in these languages over the last several decades. The first component of these compounds is shown to be related to intensifiers like selbst in German and its cognate form self- in English, whose multiple uses also underlie different semantic types of reflexive compounds (self-help vs. self-control), whereas the second component typically derives from transitive verbs. Among the central problems discussed in this paper are the question of the productivity of these compounds and the possibility of deriving their meaning in a compositional fashion. The parameters of variation manifested by the sample of languages under comparison in this pilot study concern inter alia the form of the intensifier (native or borrowed, one or two), the semantic type, and the lexical category of the resultant compound.
