The 13C NMR spectra of the ethylaluminium compounds [Al(C2H5)xCl3_x]2 x = 1, 1,5, 2 and 3 are presented and factors governing the temperature dependence of the line shape are discussed. The exchange reaction of terminal ethyl groups for chlorine ligands and ethyl ligands, resp., in ethylaluminium-sesquichloride was investigated by fitting the calculated line shapes to the observed spectra. The energy of activation of this exchange process was determined as to be 12,3 ‡ 1,5 kcal/mole. The synthesis of 13C2-[Al(C2H5)Cl2]2 is described.

Wettability has been explored for 100 years since it is described by Young’s equation in 1805. It is all known that hydrophilicity means contact angle (θ), θ < 90°; hydrophobicity means contact angle (θ), θ > 90°. The utilization of both hydrophilic surfaces and hydrophobic surfaces has also been achieved in both academic and practical perspectives. In order to understand the wettability of a droplet distributed on the textured surfaces, the relevant models are reviewed along with understanding the formation of contact angle and how it is affected by the roughness of the textured surface aiming to obtain the required surface without considering whether the original material is hydrophilic or hydrophobic.

AbstractThe calculation of a gas stream offers two modes of the stream. In any case the stream cannot be detected optically. The calculated line profiles caused by the disc are demonstrated.

The forward-scattered light observed when a single-mode dye laser interacts with the three neon transitions 1 s5( J = 2)-2 ps( J = 2), 1s3( J = 0)-2 p5( J = 1), and 1 s4( J = 1)-2 p7( J = 1) has been investigated as an applied longitudinal magnetic field is varied. The 1 s5 and the 1 s3 states are metastable. This condition allows a comparison of the spectra for the cases 1 s5( J = 2)-2 p8( J = 2) and 1 s3( J = 0)-2 p5( J = 1) in order to discuss whether the complex line shapes obtained for the J = 2 to J = 2 atomic system are due to higher-order coherences or whether they originate from coherences between m = ±1 states. Experimental and calculated line shapes are presented. The calculations have been performed with the use of a semiclassical model for the light/matter interaction. A J = 0 to J = 1 (or a J = 1 to J = 1) model reproduces the overall shapes of the recorded spectra for all three transitions. The results show that, even when laser beam spatial effects and the sample isotopic effects are taken into account, interpretations of forward-scattering spectra in order to determine atomic parameters can reliably be done for simple J = 0 to J = 1 systems only.

We derive the modified Young's equation for the contact angle of a fluid droplet on a rigid substrate using an interface displacement model and identify the line tension with the excess free energy per unit length calculated previously for a straight three-phase contact line.
