This paper presents our continuing work to develop methods to exchange product knowledge in the semantic level in the CAD/CAE domains. We present an approach based on a shared ontology, in which a higher level of ontologies are shared among lower levels of ontologies. Key mapping strategies, such as Equivalency, Attribute Similarity, Composition Similarity, and Inheritance Similarity are defined to map concepts and properties defined in a product design domain and an assembly simulation domain. In addition, a Bridge Ontology is designed to store information obtained from mapping processes and construct a link between different knowledge repositories. An Ontology Mapping Application (OMA) which brings together all these elements has been designed and implemented. It is a Java-based application that allows the user to load source and target ontologies, calculate concept and property similarities between them, display the mapping results, and output a corresponding Bridge Ontology.

This paper puts forward several principles that the authors believe are essential for quality education in Canadian colleges. The relationship between establishing communities of practice, creating knowledge repositories, encouraging top management commitment to knowledge sharing and establishing a comprehensive reward system are examined in relation to innovation in education. Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #4 of the UN postulates quality education among its top initiatives.The question that arises is how do we ensure that SDG #4 is implemented in higher education institutions? Accordingly, data was collected through observation of faculty and staff from the 2017 Ontario Colleges strike. Although a strong corporate culture exists in Ontario colleges, the system continues to struggle with explicit top management principles that support knowledge sharing across different disciplines. Inter and intra departmental forums including students are non-existent. Knowledge repositories, that staff, faculty and students can tap into are lacking. A greater conversation with stakeholders is imperative to weave all the threads of organizational behavior practices together to nurture future global citizens. Only then can we achieve sustainable quality education.

This paper reports a large-scale knowledge conversion and curation experiment. Biomedical domain knowledge from a semantically weak and shallow terminological resource, the UMLS, is transformed into a rigorous description logics format. This way, the broad coverage of the UMLS is combined with inference mechanisms for consistency and cycle checking. They are the key to proper cleansing of the knowledge directly imported from the UMLS, as well as subsequent updating, maintenance and refinement of large knowledge repositories. The emerging biomedical knowledge base currently comprises more than 240 000 conceptual entities and hence constitutes one of the largest formal knowledge repositories ever built.

The World Wide Web (WWW) is global information medium, where users can read and write using computers over internet. Web is one of the services available on internet. The Web was created in 1989 by Sir Tim Berners-Lee. Since then a great refinement has done in the web usage and development of its applications. Semantic Web Technologies enable machines to interpret data published in a machine-interpretable form on the web. Semantic web is not a separate web it is an extension to the current web with additional semantics. Semantic technologies play a crucial role to provide data understandable to machines. To achieve machine understandable, we should add semantics to existing websites. With additional semantics, we can achieve next level web where knowledge repositories are available for better understanding of web data. This facilitates better search, accurate filtering and intelligent retrieval of data. This paper discusses about the Semantic Web and languages involved in describing documents in machine understandable format.

This chapter takes a look at the impact of accessibility barriers to today's digital libraries on disabled students' ability to succeed and considers the wider institutional implications of such barriers in light of disability laws in the United States. It analyzes the implications of these barriers from the broader institutional policy perspective in improving the access to higher education for users with print disabilities. The author concludes by reiterating that achieving technical accessibility through adherence to industry or legal standards alone is not adequate for making usable research and teaching libraries available to students and scholars with print disabilities. The author also emphasizes that engaging actual disabled users both in the design and development stages of the platforms, user interfaces, and content presentation schemas for these knowledge repositories is of utmost importance.

Support for knowledge management (KM) requires mechanisms for creation, mapping and transference of knowledge. Many organizations use computer tools, like knowledge mapping tools, knowledge repositories, tools to support communities of practice and computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL), to achieve these goals. In particular, CSCL can support knowledge transfer at the same time that it improves the process of creating new knowledge. However, whole CSCL potential to transfer knowledge and foment learning is not being used adequately, mainly because of the lack of appropriate integration with other KM tools. In fact, there is a lack of guidance on how to effectively integrate CSCL into KM and how to evaluate the benefits of this integration. This chapter fills in this gap by proposing a model to improve KM through the consistent and effective integration of CSCL into the KM structure of organizations. It also describes a framework to evaluate the results of this integration.
