Abstract Previous research revealed that if individuals personally experience an unusual weather event as a result of global warming (vs no personal experience), they may hold higher belief certainty that global warming is happening and hence develop more favorable attitudes toward mitigation actions. However, much of the previous research focused on self-reported personal experience and global warming beliefs using cross-sectional surveys; reverse causality is thus possible. Based on weather records and survey data, the present research examined whether actual weather events can influence one’s perceptions of unusual weather and belief certainty. Severe Typhoon Fitow 2013, but not hot summer temperatures, directly predicted the Chinese perceived experience of unusual weather and indirectly predicted their belief certainty and attitudes toward mitigation behavior. However, the effects were relatively small. Possible explanations and implications for environmental education are discussed.

With support from government and business, artificial intelligence is growing quickly in China. However, little is known of how media use shapes the Chinese public’s perception of artificial intelligence. Based on a national online survey (N = 738), this pilot study explored the linkages between media use and people’s risk perception, benefit perception, and policy support of artificial intelligence. Results showed that respondents perceive artificial intelligence as more beneficial than risky. Newspaper use was negatively associated with benefit perception and policy support, whereas television and WeChat use positively predicted both. Analyses of interaction effects showed that personal relevance could partly mitigate the influence of media use.

The learning media developed based on PowToon in global warming material for grade XI students high school. The purpose of this study was to design, analyze the feasibility, and assess the students responses to PowToon based learning media on global warming material. This type of research is a Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model design. The research instrument used was the PowToon media validation assessment sheet which was used by the validator to assess the feasibility of the learning media. Students also filled out a questionnaire to see the responses to the PowToon media developed. The learning media developed after being assessed and given suggestions by the validator are said to be feasible with the valid category. Based on the research results, it was obtained that the average validation of the four media aspects was 86% with the valid category. The average validation of content aspects, design aspects, pedagogical aspects, and ease aspects in media  use. As for the results of filling out the student questionnaire, the overall average was 83% with a good category. Where the average questionnaire motivation, learning outcomes, and scientific attitudes. Thus learning media based on PowToon is declared feasible with the valid category used as  a learning media.

This study examines the role of media in a local election using media use and public perceptions of media and their interactions as key independent variables. Some support is found for the notion that media do not exert direct effects on behavioral outcomes, but rather this process depends on how people perceive the media they use in terms of their ties to special interests in the community and the interaction of this perception with media use.

This chapter indicates the advanced issues of global warming, the significant aspects of climate change, climate change and crop production, climate change and risk issues, and the public perceptions of climate change. Global warming and climate change are the important environmental concerns that have a major impact on various environmental perspectives. The effects and impacts of global warming are climate change, sea level change, water balance, and human health. The problems of global warming and climate change can be controlled by minimizing the emission of greenhouse gases into the environment through conducting laws, reducing thermal power generating stations, planting trees, and sharing vehicles. Global warming and climate change must be recognized by local governments and environment-related international organizations in order to find the effective approaches to reducing their impacts in environmental settings.
