Abstract After the construction of rural water supply projects, how to make them sustainably operated and managed has become the focus and difficulty of the current and future work of rural water supply. In order to evaluate the operation and management of rural water supply projects, a comprehensive indicator system of rural water supply projects sustainable operation and management was established, and a combinational evaluation model based on a cyclic correction framework was used in 13 pilot districts of Chongqing, China. The APH method was used to calculate the weight of each index. Two indexes with the highest weights are ‘establishment of management agency (0.1436)’ and ‘assurance level of operating funds (0.1382)’. Compared with the traditional individual evaluation model, the cyclic correction framework can effectively reduce the systematic deviation and random error in the evaluation process and make the research conclusion more reliable. The ranks of the districts in the main urban metropolitan part are higher, while the districts in the southeast and northeast of Chongqing are ranked relatively low. The top five districts were Rongchang, Yubei, Banan, Liangping, and Tongliang. In the future, the sustainable operation and management of rural water supply projects should be improved by enhancing the ability of the management agencies of rural water supply projects and increasing funding for project operation management.

The purpose of this research is to identify the risks and deficiencies that affect the performance of companies that provide vehicle after-sales services. Thus, this paper highlights the results of a comparative study based on a questionnaire conducted at the level of six brands in the automotive industry. A model was developed to investigate the factors that affect the global performance of the after-sales sector and the authenticity of the information related to the issue studied. Moreover, based on the collected data, this study evaluates the strategies related to performance management used by the organizations studied. In the end, even if the results showed a score of 81% on the questionnaire, we found that companies that provide vehicle after-sales services have not implemented and do not maintain totally the strategies related to performance management. Consequently, the need for change can be emphasized. Based on the analyzed data in the second part of the paper, we identified deficiencies and risks in terms of the organization, operation and management of the service units. These results confirm that the vehicle repair service has a significant influence on employee and customer satisfaction, on the quality of the vehicles repaired and the repair completion time.

This research outlines the selection, registration, operation and management of formal homestays under the purview of Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia. Using a case study of Kelantan, the research further elaborates on the inception of such concept in Malaysia, the process and procedures for establishment of homestay operation as well as the maintenance and upholding qualities of the current operational homestays. One of the largest contributing sectors to the Gross National Product in 2015, tourism offers great and various activities to tourists domestic and international alike. One such activities is agrotourism that provide opportunities for the visitors to stay and experience the life of an agriculture community in rural areas of Malaysia. Kelantan being one of the most remote areas in the Peninsula is still rich with natural resources and agricultural produce has the advantage of showcasing the unique attractions to various tourists’ types, especially those who were willing to stay overnight or more to properly enjoy and learn about realities of daily life of these selected communities. A gap in the literature identified that research on how these communities were selected to offer such activities while maintaining their identities are scantily available. Hence, this research aims at explaining the processes of registering of homestays and rooms for tourists stay and identifying improvement areas which can be targeted to increase the income receipts from this specialised yet diversified sector.

The metro passenger route choice, influenced by both train schedule and time constraints, is important to metro operation and management. Smart card data (Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) data in metro system) including inbound and outbound swiping time are useful for analysis of the characteristics of passengers’ route choices in metro while they could not reflect the property of train schedule directly. Train schedule is used in this paper to trim smart card data through removing inbound and outbound walking time to/from platforms and waiting time. Thus, passengers’ pure travel time in accord with trains’ arrival and departure can be obtained. Synchronous clustering (SynC) algorithm is then applied to analyze these processed data to calculate passenger route choice probability. Finally, a case study was conducted to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Results showed the proposed algorithm works well to analyze metro passenger route choice. It was shown that passenger route choice during both peak period and flat period could be clustered automatically, and noise data are isolated. The probability of route choice calculated through SynC algorithm can be used to revise traditional model results.

Parking search time is a key factor in evaluation of the efficiency of parking facility operation and management. This study introduced an optimization algorithm to demonstrate the feasibility of minimizing the parking search time of daily commuters on urban university campuses. An activity-based model was developed to assess the variation in parking search time due to different classroom assignment methods. This model was able to investigate the effect of different arrival and departure conditions as well as different parking search methods. The campus of the University of Akron, in Akron, Ohio, was selected as a case study to show the reduction of parking search time under a variety of conditions by using the proposed optimization approach. According to the results, with this approach parking demand can be efficiently distributed and search time can be effectively reduced by about 20%.

In 2003, in Taroko National Park’s planning, the upper plateau of Bruwan was commissioned for private operation and management (OT, Operation-Transfer). It was there that Ming-Gang Cheng, partnered with Leader Hotel Group, won the management rights to “Bruwan Village Taroko Vacation House”. Due to the location, limited room numbers, and the many restrictions, most people did not find Bruwan Village Taroko promising. After ten years of management by Ming-Gang Cheng, not only was Bruwan Village Taroko, a cultural and creative hotel rich with Taroko tribal culture, attracting many foreign and domestic visitors, it was also the best known OT project in Taiwan. Ming-Gang Cheng’s background and entrepreneurial process had been introduced in this case study. Throughout the process, he had made use of various relationship resources, displayed his creativity, and fully integrated the local natural landscapes with the Taroko tribe’s aboriginal culture. Not only had he overcome the difficulties presented when first starting the business under predetermined disadvantages in environmental conditions, his innovative and unique market positioning had brought Bruwan Village Taroko to the global stage. From Ming-Gang Cheng’s background and entrepreneurship of Bruwan Village Taroko, this case intends to investigate topics including entrepreneurial personalities and entrepreneurship, the effect of social capital in entrepreneurship, and innovation under disadvantages.
