Abstract Vision aided pick and place cartesian robot is a combination of machine vision system and robotic system. They communicate with each other simultaneously to perform object sorting. In this project, machine vision algorithm for object sorting to solve the problem in failure sorting due to imperfection of images edges and different types of colours is proposed. The image is acquired by a camera and followed by image calibration. Pre-processing of image is performed through these methods, which are HSI colour space transformation, Gaussian filter for image filtering, Otsu’s method for image binarization, and Canny edge detection. LabVIEW edge-based geometric matching is selected for template matching. After the vision application analysed the image, electrical signal will send to robotic arm for object sorting if the acquired image is matched with template image. The proposed machine vision algorithm has yielded an accurate template matching score from 800 to 1000 under different disturbances and conditions. This machine vision algorithm provides more customizable parameters for each methods yet improves the accuracy of template matching.

This investigation is solely on the adaptation of a vision system algorithm to classify the processes to regulate the decision making related to the tasks and defect’s recognition. These idea stresses on the new method on vision algorithm which is focusing on the shape matching properties to classify defects occur on the product. The problem faced before that the system required to process broad data acquired from the object caused the time and efficiency slightly decrease. The propose defect detection approach combine with Region of Interest, Gaussian smoothing, Correlation and Template Matching are introduced. This application provides high computational savings and results in better recognition rate about 95.14%. The defects occur provides with information of the height which corresponds by the z-coordinate, length which corresponds by the y-coordinate and width which corresponds by the x-coordinate. This data gathered from the proposed system using dual camera for executing the three dimensional transformation.

Small plastic gear is generally made by injection molding. But the injection molding process and mold have problems with missing tooth, shrink, more material, less material and inaccurate roundness and so on. Furthermore, using manual inspection will appear phenomenon of low efficiency, false detection and leak detection. To solve these problems, this paper introduces an automatic inspection system of small plastic gears based on machine vision. The system consists of feeding and sorting machine control system and machine vision inspection system of the gear defects. Mechanical control use digital servo control technology to achieve automatic nesting, feeding, positioning of gear workpiece, and depend on the inspection result of machine vision system to sort. After acquired gear image through a camera, Machine vision system uses median filtering, binarization, edge detection algorithms to process image. Then the system adopts template matching algorithm to obtain the inspection result and send the result to the sorting controller, which achieve automatic smart inspection of gear. The automatic inspection system has accurate, efficient, intelligent and other advantages.

In this paper, a surgical blade inspecting system is designed and researched, which can automatic test and determine eligibility according to tolerances. High precision and non-contact detection of surgical blades based on machine vision is realized by using camera with telecentric lens to obtain the image of surgical blades, by applying template matching technique to automatic match surgical blades. One-dimensional edge of sub-pixel accuracy is extracted by combining the edge filtering of the Deriche filter and parabolic fitting for the maximum range from edge. It can be used for precise measurement of different part of surgical blades with different sizes. Extensive experiments showed that measuring range is from 2mm ~ 50mm, measuring accuracy is 10μm and average detection time is 0.6s. Thus the inspection system is fast, accurate and robust to fulfill the industrial demands.

Image measurement based on machine vision is a promising method for the precise measurements of machine parts. As for a large sized workpiece that exceeds the FOV (field of view) of the camera, image mosaic must be performed to implement measurement. While traditional template matching algorithms will lead to long runtime consumption, a combination of algorithms with precise mechanical positioning function using motion control was proposed and applied in the machine vision system. The manufacturing and installing errors have been taken into account to improve the positioning accuracy. This method minimized the search space and thereby reduced the runtime substantially. In addition, a stop criterion of the computation for the algorithms was applied to save a considerable amount of time in the process. Experimental results show that the precision of the image mosaic meets the requirements while speeding up the process significantly.

AbstractThe water displacement and flotation are two of the most accurate and rapid methods for grading and assessing freshness of agricultural products based on density determination. However, these techniques are still not suitable for use in agricultural inspections of products such as eggs that absorb water which can be considered intrusive or destructive and can affect the result of measurements. Here we present a novel proposal for a method of non-destructive, non-invasive, low cost, simple and real—time monitoring of the grading and freshness assessment of eggs based on density detection using machine vision and a weighing sensor. This is the first proposal that divides egg freshness into intervals through density measurements. The machine vision system was developed for the measurement of external physical characteristics (length and breadth) of eggs for evaluating their volume. The weighing system was developed for the measurement of the weight of the egg. Egg weight and volume were used to calculate density for grading and egg freshness assessment. The proposed system could measure the weight, volume and density with an accuracy of 99.88%, 98.26% and 99.02%, respectively. The results showed that the weight and freshness of eggs stored at room temperature decreased with storage time. The relationship between density and percentage of freshness was linear for the all sizes of eggs, the coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.9982, 0.9999, 0.9996, 0.9996 and 0.9994 for classified egg size classified 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4, respectively. This study shows that egg freshness can be determined through density without using water to test for water displacement or egg flotation which has future potential as a measuring system important for the poultry industry.
