Abstract Karst waterlogging is a natural disaster that occurs frequently and it adversely affects the social and economic development of affected areas. An analysis of the causes of karst waterlogging with respect to climate and topography can serve as a foundation for disaster assessment and prevention. In this study, a karst waterlogging risk assessment indexing system was established. The system was based on a comprehensive analysis of risk factors, including the severity of the disaster and the vulnerability of the affected area. DeBao County in GuangXi was used as the study area. Nine risk indicators were chosen as evaluation indexes and combination weights were divided into subjective and objective weights based on the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and entropy weight. A geographical information system (GIS) was applied to help with the calculations of the set pair analysis (SPA) and to pile up the layers of the evaluation indicators. Then, a risk rating map was drawn using GIS techniques. The results showed that the high risk locations were mainly distributed in the center of DeBao County; therefore, the map could be used as reference for the prevention and management of karst waterlogging risk.

In recent years, urbanization has developed rapidly, and urban road play a vital role as the premise. Due to the good effectiveness of asphalt pavement, which is more popular in urban road, and road maintenance demands are also increasing. In order to make the maintenance work appropriate, accurate pavement performance evaluation is the premise. This paper collects the data of a road pavement condition in Shanghai and calculates the sub-indexes of each section. We use the entropy weight method to obtain the influence degree of each sub-index. Then we use the revised set pair analysis to construct the comprehensive performance evaluation model of urban road pavement. The analysis shows that compared with the standard method and the set pair analysis, the revised model is more objective, in line with the actual use of the road.

In view of the uncertainty of evaluation indicators for water resources carrying capacity the theory of set pair analysis is adopted. The samples are preliminarily classified by calculating the connection degree between the samples and evaluation indicators. Then the samples are further ranked through the identity, difference and antagonism set pair analysis. The weights of evaluation factors in the model are obtained from the avail value of data reflecting the information entropy, by which the weight allocation is more reasonable. The application result of this model to an example is compared with those obtained from integrated evaluating methods and the attribute recognition method. It shows that the proposed method is practical and reasonable.

With the rapid development of the social economy, China is suffering from severe water scarcity due to improper management. Evaluation of water resource value is a crucial issue for innovative management in regional water resources. In this paper, in consideration of the complexity and uncertainty of water resources, 15 indicators were selected to establish the assessment system for its value in Wuhan City from the following three aspects, namely the environment, resources, and society. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and Entropy Weight Method were combined to calculate the comprehensive weight. An improved set pair analysis (SPA) model was applied to evaluate water resource assets in the period of 2013–2017. For the sake of the dependability of these results, the James Pollution Loss model was utilized to compute loss of water resource value caused by the decline of water quality in the water pollution environment. The results show that the amount of water resource through physical quantitative accounting in Wuhan City fluctuates greatly. The initial change is relatively stable, then surges in 2015 and 2016, but slumps in 2017. The total water resource assets for Wuhan City from 2013 to 2017 are 14.221, 14.833, 28.375, 75.558, and 21.315 billion RMB, respectively. Therefore, water resource value accounting plays an indispensable role in the environmental protection and sustainable development of water, as well as provides a support for comprehensive calculation and management of various valuable natural resources.

Groundwater quality assessment is an essential study which plays important roles in the rational development and utilization of groundwater. Groundwater quality greatly influences the health of local people. However, most traditional water quality comprehensive assessment methods which have complicated formulas are difficult to apply in water quality assessment. In this paper, a novel method for groundwater quality assessment called set pair analysis was introduced and entropy weight was assigned to each index to improve the assessment model. The calculation steps are depicted in the paper and take groundwater quality assessment in Dongsheng City as a case study. The assessment results indicated that groundwater qualities in the study area were relatively good, Set Pair Analysis method, which was an optimal method for groundwater quality assessment and worth promoting, was easy to use and calculation processes which use almost all the relative information were simple, results were reasonable, reliable and intuitive.
