Two analyses are presented for determining the drive shaft speed variations in a scotch yoke mechanism. The first analysis determines the speed variations when the mechanism is rigidly connected to a motor having a quadratic speed versus torque characteristic. The second analysis determines the speed variations when the mechanism is connected to a constant speed source through a flexible coupling. Together these models represent the two most common drive configurations. The results are of practical importance since they can be used in the preliminary calculations necessary in either the design of a main drive or the diagnosis of a drive problem in an existing machine. The methods are also of theoretical importance since they may be extended to the analysis of mechanisms having a greater harmonic content than the simple scotch yoke mechanism.

Application of a variety of software construct co-simulation environment, establishment of model of thin seam shearer cutting unit rigid-flexible coupling multimode system, do correctness verification to model from speed characteristics and mechanical properties. Simulation by loading, get characteristics of principal stress and weak links of key parts. Compared to the prototype model simulation under multi-condition, got the best traction speed of shearer when working in a particular coal seam. Axis of the planet given to different materials to comparative simulation and comprehensive analysis, given the best materials of planetary shaft should be selected, improved the reliability of planetary axis under poor conditions.

Finite element model of track in frog zone is built by vehicle-turnout system dynamics. Considering variation of rail section and elastic support, bending deformation of turnout sleeper, spacer block and sharing pad effects, the track integral rigidity distribution in longitudinal direction is calculated in the model. Vehicle-turnout rigid-flexible coupling model is built by finite element method (FEM), multi-body system (MBS) dynamics and Hertz contact theory. With the regularity solution that different stiffness is applied for rubber pad under sharing pad of different turnout sleeper zone, analysis the variation of vertical acceleration of bogie and wheelset, rail vertical displacement and wheel-rail interaction force, this paper proves that setting reasonable rubber pad stiffness is an efficient method to solve rigidity irregularity problem.

The shaft misalignment, even being a common fault in rotating machinery, is not sufficiently studied. The present work addresses effects of misalignment in rotating machinery. An attempt to give a theoretical model for a rotor-coupling-bearing system has been done. The rotor-bearing system including the flexible coupling is modelled using the finite elements. The reaction forces and moments developed due to flexible coupling misalignment both for parallel and angular are derived and introduced in the model. Vibration analyses such as eigen value analysis and unbalance response are carried out for the rotor system with misaligned shafts.
