Purpose to provide risk stratification of non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after sinus rhythm restoring (SRR) in patients (pts) with AF at different follow-up periods (3 months (AFr3m), 12 months (AFr12m) and 18 months [AFr18m]), based on phenotype-genotype high-risk groups, considering rs10465885 polymorphism in connexin-40 gene (SNP-Cx40). Methods. We enrolled 186 pts (mean age (55 ± 10) years; males 123 [66,1%]) with AF (paroxysmal – 86, persistent – 72, stable – 28 pts; first onset (FO) AF – 48 pts). Clinical, laboratory and echocardiographic data were analyzed. SNP-Cx40 was genotyped by real time PCR (T – reference, C – minor allele) in 112 pts. The genotypes were distributed as follows: TT – 25,9% (n = 29); CT – 49,1% (n = 55); CC – 25,0% (n = 28). SRR was performed in 112 cases (102 pts) with non-permanent AF: 30 – pharmacological cardioversion (PCV), 62 – direct-current cardioversion (DCV), 20 cases – radiofrequency ablation (RFA). AFr3m occurred in 53 (43,4%) of 122 available cases; AFr12m – 65,5% (76/116); AFr18m – 75,2% (79/105). The Artificial Neural networks (ANNs) analysis was performed to select the AF recurrence predictors. We considered the ANN activation function value (Y) and its relation to Y cut-off value (Ycrit). In case of Y > Ycrit, the AF recurrence risk was considered as «high». Results. We built three nonlinear ANN models (multilayer perceptrons) for AFr3m (Ycrit = 0,496), AFr12m (Ycrit = 0,503) and AFr18m (Ycrit = 0,720) risk prediction. In case of SNP-Cx40 CC genotype carriage, we determined the additional increase of AFr3m risk after PCV in pts with CHA2DS2-VASc score «0» and normal (Y = 0,629) or mildly decreased (Y = 0,616) left ventricular mid-wall fractional shortening, and in the case of its moderate decrease – both after PCV (Y = 0,585) and DCV (Y = 0,627). The CC genotype was associated with AFr12m high risk in pts without heart failure (HF) and mildly increased left atrial dimension (LAD) – both after PCV (FO AF with known precise event duration (PED); Y = 0,906) or DCV (FO AF with unknown PED; Y = 0,911). Additionally, CC genotype was associated with AFr12m high risk after RFA in pts without HF and normal or mildly increased LAD (Y = 0,912), and in pts with HF B or C1 stage (according to modified AHA/ACC classification) with moderately increased LAD (Y = 0,912). The high-risk groups of AFr18m in pts with CC genotype were as follows (Y = 0,913): after RFA in pts with recurrent AF and presence of episodes lasting ≥7 days; after PCA in case of FO AF with unknown PED and index episode lasting ≥1 month; after DCV in case of FO AF with unknown PED and index episode lasting ≥12 months. Conclusion. AFr3m, AFr12m and AFr18m, besides SNP-Cx40, were non-linearly associated with SRR type, and certain clinical and echocardiographic phenotypic parameters, which could be used for AF recurrence risk stratification, with the selection of phenotype-genotype high-risk groups, considering SNP-Cx40.

Abstract Purpose to establish the predictors of non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after sinus rhythm restoring (SRR) in patients (pts) with AF at 1-year follow-up (AFr1y), and provide AFr1y risk stratification, considering single nucleotide polymorphism rs10465885 in connexin-40 gene (SNP-Cx40). Methods. We enrolled 186 pts before the age of 65 years (mean age (55 ± 10) years; males 123 [66,1%]) with AF (paroxysmal – 86, persistent – 72, stable – 28 pts; first onset (FO) AF – 48 pts). Clinical, laboratory and echocardiographic data were analyzed. SNP-Cx40 was genotyped by real time polymerase chain reaction (T – reference, C – minor allele) in 112 pts. Genotype distribution of SNP-Cx40 was as follows: TT – 25,9% (n = 29); CT – 49,1% (n = 55); CC – 25,0% (n = 28). SRR was performed in 112 cases (102 pts) with non-permanent AF: 30 – pharmacological cardioversion (PCV), 62 – direct-current cardioversion (DCV), 20 cases – radiofrequency ablation (RFA). AFr1y occurred in 74 (66,1%) of 112 cases. We performed Artificial Neural networks (ANNs) analysis to select the AFr1y predictors. While AFr1y risk stratification, we considered the activation function value (Y) of the certain ANN model and its relation to Y cut-off value (Ycrit). In case of Y > Ycrit, the AFr1y risk was considered as «high». Results. Genetic algorithm Input Selection revealed the set of parameters, associated with AFr1y, included SRR type, SNP-Cx40, and baseline clinical (body mass index, global cardiovascular risk, heart failure (HF) stage, CHA2DS2-VASc score, AF anamnesis duration, average AF event duration, FO AF), laboratory (fasting glucose level, estimated glomerular filtration rate, red cell distribution width, total serum cholesterol level) and echocardiographic (left atrial dimension (LAD), left ventricular (LV) mid-wall fractional shortening degree, LV hypertrophy degree) characteristics. In order to obtain the maximal reduction of predictors, we built non-linear multilayer perceptron model (MLP5) on the basis of set of 5 the most sensitive parameters, included SRR type, SNP-Cx40, HF stage, LAD and FO AF. The area under curve for MLP5 (0,808 [CI 0,723-0,876]) was higher than 0,5 (p < 0,001), with Ycrit = 0,503. The rs10465885 CC genotype was associated with AFr1y high risk in pts without HF and mildly increased LAD – both after PCV (FO AF with known precise event duration (PED); Y = 0,906) or DCV (FO AF with unknown PED; Y = 0,911). Additionally, rs10465885 CC genotype was associated with AFr1y high risk after RFA in pts without HF and normal or mildly increased LAD (Y = 0,912), and in pts with HF B or C1 stage (according to modified AHA/ACC classification) with moderately increased LAD (Y = 0,912). Conclusions. AFr1y was non-linearly associated with SRR type, SNP-Cx40 and certain phenotypic parameters, including HF stage, FO AF and LAD. These parameters could be used for AFr1y risk stratification, with the selection of phenotype-genotype high risk groups, considering SNP-Cx40.

Abstract Background Atrial fibrillation (AF) impairs mechanical function of the heart, especially atria and restoration of sinus rhythm (SR) leads to improvement of mechanics. The predicting role of changes in strain parameters for AF recurrence is not established yet. Purpose To analyse changes in left atrial (LA) and left ventricular (LV) mechanical function after conversion to SR and their prognostic values for AF recurrence during 24 months follow-up. Methods Prospective study involved 59 patients after successful electrical cardioversion (EC) because of nonvalvular AF (mean age 65±4 years, 47% female). Speckle tracking analysis (STE) was applied to calculate longitudinal strain of LV and LA before EC and within 24 hours after restoration of SR and additionally total left heart strain (TS) defined as a sum of absolute peak LV and LA strain. We calculated change in strain between AF and SR analyses expressed as delta (Δ). During follow-up we noticed AF recurrence in 42 (71%) patients, most of them (93%) during 1st year after EC. Median time of AF recurrence was 3 months. Results We noticed significant immediate post-EC improvement in peak LA longitudinal strain (PALS) and LV global longitudinal strain (LVGLS) (table). Unlike CHA2DS2-VASc score, strain parameters were predictors of AF recurrence. Every 1% increment in ΔLVGLS was related with 13% increase in AF recurrence risk (p=0.02) and every 1% increment in ΔPALS and ΔTS were related with 9% decrease in AF recurrence risk (p=0.007 and p=0.0014, respectively). Multivariate analysis revealed ΔTS as a strongest predictor with 9% decrease in AF risk per every 1% increment. The criterion of ΔTS ≤7.5% allows to predict AF recurrence with 81% sensitivity and 63% specificity. Conclusions Speckle tracking measurements are able to detect early mechanical changes in LA even within 24 hours of SR and these absolute changes in LVGLS as well as PALS can predict AF recurrence, with optimal stratification by novel parameter - TS. Abstract Background The debate on the best treatment strategy for atrial fibrillation (AF) has expanded following the introduction of the so-called “hybrid procedure” that combines minimally invasive epicardial ablation with endocardial catheter ablation. However, the advantage of the hybrid approach over conventional epicardial ablation remains to be established. Methods From June 2008 to December 2020, 609 surgical AF ablation procedures through a right minithoracotomy were performed at our institution. From 2008 to 2011, a unipolar radiofrequency (RF) device was used, whereas from 2011 to 2020 a bipolar RF device was used. In addition, between September 2016 and April 2017, 60 patients underwent endocardial completion of epicardial linear ablation. In 30 of these latter patients, surgical isolation of the Bachmann’s bundle (BB) was also performed. Starting from 2021, surviving patients at follow-up were asked to undergo electrocardiographic evaluation and left ventricular function assessment and to complete a questionnaire addressing quality of life and predisposing factors for recurrent AF. Results The ablation procedure was completed in all patients. Upon discharge, 30 (4.9%) patients showed recurrence of AF, whereas the remaining patients (95.1%) were in sinus rhythm. All patients in whom a hybrid approach was used either with or without BB ablation were discharged in sinus rhythm. After a mean follow-up of 74 months, 122 (20%) patients developed recurrent AF, including 19.9% in whom a unipolar RF device was used, 21% in whom a bipolar RF device was used, 23% who had undergone a hybrid procedure without BB ablation and 3.3% who had undergone a hybrid procedure with BB ablation. On multivariate analysis, reduced left ventricular ejection fraction, worsening of European Heart Rhythm Association symptom class, and cognitive impairment or depression during follow-up were found to be significantly associated with AF recurrence. Conclusions Surgical AF ablation through a right minithoracotomy is safe and may allow the creation of additional linear lesions, particularly in the BB. The placement of adjunctive linear lesions in the setting of a hybrid procedure can be more effective in reducing the risk for AF recurrence than isolated surgical ablation or hybrid ablation without the addition of further linear lesions, with no incremental risk to the patient.

Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Background The restoration of sinus rhythm (SR) improves the mechanical function of the heart. Purpose To assess left atrial (LA) function before and within 24 hours after successful electrical cardioversion (EC) and its prognostic value for atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence during 24 months follow-up. Methods Prospective study involved 71 patients with non-valvular AF (mean age 64 ± 13 years, 61% male). All patients underwent echocardiography before and after EC. We analysed standard parameters in two-dimensional echo, pulse-wave Doppler and tissue Doppler echocardiography. Using speckle-tracking method we assessed peak atrial longitudinal strain (PALS) and peak atrial contraction strain (PACS). Results During follow-up we noticed AF recurrence in 48 (68%) patients. Median time to AF recurrence was 2.4 (IQR 1 to 6.9) months. Left ventricular ejection fraction as well as E/E’ and PALS assessed during AF were statistically insignificant as potential predictors in univariate regression model. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis revealed that left atrial volume index >37 ml/m² (AUC = 0.811, p < 0.0001), E/A ratio >2.1 (AUC = 0.828, p < 0.0001), A wave ≤0.4 m/s (AUC = 0.662, p = 0.01), mean E/E’ ratio during sinus rhythm >8.5 (AUC = 0.815, p < 0.0001), mean A’ wave of ≤5.5 cm/s (AUC = 0.848, p < 0.0001), PALS-SR ≤14.1% (AUC = 0.767, p < 0.0001), PACS ≤4.3% (AUC = 0.883, p < 0.0001) were the optimal cut-off values for predicting AF recurrence. Conclusions The assessment of LA and diastolic function conducted within 24 hours after successful cardioversion predicts long-term maintenance of sinus rhythm.

Abstract Background Few studies have assessed the evolution of cardiac chambers deformation imaging in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) according to cardiac rhythm outcome. Purpose To evaluate cardiac chamber deformation imaging in patients admitted for AF and the evolution at 6-month follow-up (M6). Methods In forty-one consecutive patients hospitalised for AF two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography was performed at admission (M0) and after six months (M6) of follow up. In addition to the usual parameters of chamber size and function, chamber deformation imaging was obtained including global left atrium (LA) and right atrium (RA) reservoir strain, global left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) free wall longitudinal strain. Patients were divided into three groups according to their cardiac rhythm at M0 and M6: AF at M0 and sinus rhythm (SR) at M6 (AF-SR) (n=23), AF at M0 and AF at M6 (AF-AF) (n=11), SR at M0 (spontaneous conversion before the first echocardiography exam) and SR in M6 (SR-SR) (n=7) Results In comparison with SR patients (n=7), at M0, AF patients (n=34)) had lower global LA reservoir strain (+5.2 (+0.4 to 12.8) versus +33.2 (+27.0 to +51.5)%; p<0.001), lower global RA reservoir strain (+8.6 (−5.4 to 11.6) versus +24.3 (+12.3 to +44.9)%; p<0.001), lower global LV longitudinal strain (respectively −12.8 (−15.2 to −10.4) versus −19.1 (−21.8 to −18.3)%; p<0.001) and lower global RV longitudinal strain (respectively −14.2 (−17.3 to −10.7) versus −23.8 (−31.1 to −16.2)%; p=0.001). When compared with the AF-SR group at M0 the AF-AF group had no significant differences with regard to global LA and RA reservoir strain, global LV and RV longitudinal strain (Table). Between M0 and M6 there was a significant improvement in global longitudinal strain of the four chambers in the AF-SR group whereas no improvements were noted in the AF-AF and SR-SR group (Figure). Conclusion Initial atrial and ventricular deformations were not associated with rhythm outcome at six-month follow up in AF. The improvement in strain in all four chambers strain suggests global reverse remodelling all cardiac cavities with the restoration of sinus rhythm. Abstract OBJECTIVES Previous series showed the outcomes of thoracoscopic ablation of stand-alone symptomatic paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) for up to 7 years of follow-up. The goal of this study was to assess the long-term durability of surgical pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) beyond 7 years. METHODS Fifty consecutive patients {mean age 55 [standard deviation (SD): 11.2] years, previous catheter ablation in 56%, left ventricular ejection fraction 60% (SD: 4.6), left atrium volume 65 ml (SD: 17)} with stand-alone symptomatic paroxysmal AF underwent PVI through bilateral thoracoscopy ablation between 2005 and 2014. The CHA2DS2-VASc score was ≥2 in 12 patients (24%). RESULTS No hospital deaths occurred. At hospital discharge all patients but 1 (2%) were in sinus rhythm (SR). Follow-up was 100% complete [mean 8.4 years (SD: 2.3), max 15]. The 8-year cumulative incidence function of AF recurrence, with death as a competing risk, on or off class I/III antiarrhythmic drugs (AADs)/electrocardioversion/re-transcatheter ablation (TCA) was 20% (SD: 5; 95% confidence interval: 10, 32); and off class I/III AADs/electrocardioversion/re-TCA was 52% (SD: 7; 95% confidence interval: 0.83, 8.02). At 8 years, the predicted prevalence of patients in SR was 87% and 53% were off class I/III AADs/electrocardioversion/re-TCA. The recurrent arrhythmia was AF in all patients except 2, who had atypical atrial flutter (4%). No predictors of AF recurrence were identified. At the last follow-up, 76% of the patients showed European Heart Rhythm Association class I. No strokes or thromboembolic events were documented and 76% of the subjects were off anticoagulation therapy. CONCLUSIONS Despite a considerable AF recurrence rate, our single-centre, long-term outcome of surgical PVI showed encouraging data, with the majority of patients remaining in SR, although many of them were on antiarrhythmic therapy.

Importance: The risk of ischemic stroke during periods of warfarin discontinuation for surgical procedures is recognized but not well characterized. Objective: The study aimed to quantitate the risk of ischemic stroke associated with high risk atrial fibrillation during periods of warfarin discontinuation. Design, Setting and Participants: A cohort of 4,060 patients (mean follow-up period of 3.5 ± 1.3 years) were randomized into the Atrial Fibrillation Follow-Up Investigation of Rhythm Management study. Patients enrolled in the study had atrial fibrillation plus at least one other risk factor for stroke or death: age ≥65 years', systemic hypertension, diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure, transient ischemic attack, prior stroke, left atrium >50 mm, left ventricular fractional shortening <25% or left ventricular ejection fraction <40%. Exposure: Warfarin discontinuation for procedure. Main Outcome and Measures: The association of warfarin discontinuation with the incidence of ischemic stroke using pooled repeated measures and Cox proportional hazards analyses during follow-up after adjusting for age, gender, obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolemia, cigarette smoking and study period. Results: Warfarin discontinuation for procedure occurred in 265 (0.4%) of the 71,355 person observations. Compared with those without warfarin discontinuation, the rate of ischemic stroke was higher among participants with surgery-related warfarin discontinuation (1.1% of 265 person observations vs. 0.2% of 71,090 person observations, p = 0.001). Warfarin discontinuation was associated with an increased risk for ischemic stroke (relative risk 5.8; 95% CI 1.8-18.4) after adjusting for potential confounders. The population-attributable risk associated with surgery-related warfarin discontinuation was estimated to be 23.1% (95% CI 15.2-30.9%) for ischemic stroke. Conclusions and Relevance: The 6-fold higher risk of ischemic stroke associated with discontinuation of warfarin for surgical procedures must be recognized in high risk atrial fibrillation patients and considered in the risk-benefit analysis of any procedure.

Abstract Background: Multiple myeloma (MM) is a heterogeneous disease with very divergent outcomes that are dictated in a large part by specific cytogenetic abnormalities, as well as other prognostic factors such as the proliferative rate of marrow plasma cells. Prognostic systems incorporating these factors have shown clinical utility in identifying high-risk patients, and are increasingly being utilized for treatment decision-making. However, the prognostic relevance of these factors may change with the application of novel therapies. The objective of this study was to determine the impact of risk-stratification (incorporating plasma cell metaphase cytogenetics, interphase fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH) and the slide-based plasma cell labeling index (PCLI)) in a cohort of patients with newly diagnosed MM treated initially with lenalidomide + dexamethasone (Rev-Dex). Methods: From March 2004 to November 2007, 100 consecutive patients treated with Rev (25mg/day) on days 1 through 21 of a 4-week cycle in combination with dexamethasone as initial therapy for newly diagnosed myeloma, were identified. High-risk MM was defined as presence of any one or more of the following: hypodiploidy, monoallelic loss of chromosome 13 or its long arm (by metaphase cytogenetics only), deletion of p53 (locus 17p13) or PCLI ≥ 3% or immunoglobulin heavy chain (IgH) translocations, t(4;14) (p16.3;q32) or t(14;16)(q32;q23) on FISH. PFS and OS survival estimates were created using the Kaplan Meier method, and compared by log-rank tests. Results: The median estimated follow-up of the entire cohort (N=100) was 36 months. The median PFS was 31 months; the median OS has not been reached. The 2- and 3-year OS estimates were 93% and 83%, respectively. 16% patients were deemed high-risk by at least one of the 3 tests (cytogenetics, FISH or PCLI). Response rates (PR or better) were 81% versus 89% in the high-risk and standard risk groups, respectively, P=NS; corresponding values for CR plus VGPR rates were 38% and 45% respectively. The median PFS was 18.5 months in high-risk patients compared to 37 months in the standard-risk patients (n=84), P<0.001(Figure). Corresponding values for TTP were 18.5 months and 36.5 months, respectively, P=<0.001. OS was not statistically significant between the two groups; 92% 2-year OS was noted in both the groups. Overall, 95 patients had at least one of the 3 tests to determine risk, while 55 patients could be adequately stratified based on the availability of all the 3 tests, or at least one test result that led to their inclusion in the high-risk category. The significant difference in PFS persisted even when the analysis was restricted to the 55 patients classified using this stringent criterion; 18.5 months vs. 36.5 months in the high-risk and standard- risk groups respectively; P<0.001. In a separate analysis, patients who underwent SCT before the disease progression were censored on the date of SCT to negate its effect, and PFS was still inferior in the high-risk group (p=0.002). Conclusion: The TTP and PFS of high-risk MM patients are inferior to that of the standard-risk patients treated with Rev-Dex, indicating that the current genetic and proliferation-based risk-stratification model remains prognostic with novel therapy. However, the TTP, PFS, and OS obtained in high-risk patients treated with Rev-Dex in this study is comparable to overall results in all myeloma patients reported in recent phase III trials. In addition, no significant impact of high-risk features on OS is apparent so far. Longer follow-up is needed to determine the impact of risk stratification on the OS of patients treated with Rev-Dex. Figure Figure

Abstract Introduction Left atrial strain (LAs) shows correlation with atrial fibrosis and is a predictor of atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after transcatheter ablation. Little is known about LAs evolution after ablation. Purpose We sought to evaluate the atrial function with echocardiographic strain before and 6 months after AF ablation. Methods 65 consecutive patients undergoing radiofrequency or cryoballoon ablation for atrial fibrillation at our centre were enrolled. They underwent a transthoracic echocardiography before the procedure and at 6 months follow-up. 5 patients were excluded because of low quality images. Global left atrial strain during the reservoir phase (LASr) was calculated as a mean of the values obtained in 4 and 2 chamber apical view; the ventricular end-diastole was set as reference to allow the calculation both in patients in AF and sinus rhythm during the echocardiography. Recurrence was defined as any atrial arrhythmia episode lasting more than 30 seconds recorded on an EKG strip after the 3 months blanking period; all patients underwent a 24 hours EKG Holter after the blanking period to detect asymptomatic recurrence. Quality of life was assessed before the procedure and at follow-up with the EQ-5D-3L model. Results At 6 months 14 patients (13%) had AF recurrence. Patients with recurrence (AF-R) had similar baseline characteristics compared to those without recurrence (AF-NR) but the former had a longer history of AF (39±53 vs 85±94 months, p=0,018). LASr, LA volume and left ventricle ejection fraction (EF) were similar at baseline between groups. At follow-up LASr was significantly impaired in the AF-R group compared to AF-NR (14±6% vs 26±10% respectively, p&lt;0,0001) whereas LA volume, LV end systolic volume and EF remained similar. Compared to baseline LASr worsened in patients experiencing AF recurrence (22±11% vs 14±6%, p=0.016) and this finding was consistent also in patients in sinus rhythm during both examinations (29±8 vs 17±7, p=0,005). Compared to baseline LASr (22±10% vs 26±10%, p=0.024), LV end-systolic volume (29±15 ml vs 22±6 ml, p=0,006) and EF (51±9% vs 58±18%, p=0,038) improved in the AF-NR group but the effect was driven mainly by patients restoring sinus rhythm. Both groups showed a significant improvement of the quality of life (55±23 vs 85±13, p&lt;0,0001 AF-NR; 63±17 vs 80±12, p=0,012 AF-R). Conclusions Atrial fibrillation recurrence after transcatheter ablation is associated with significant left atrial strain worsening which indicates disease progression and may predispose to further long-term recurrences whereas a successful ablation has a protective effect on atrial function. Background - Bucindolol is a genetically targeted β-blocker/mild vasodilator with the unique pharmacologic properties of sympatholysis and ADRB1 Arg389 receptor inverse agonism. In the GENETIC-AF trial conducted in a genetically defined heart failure (HF) population at high risk for recurrent atrial fibrillation (AF), similar results were observed for bucindolol and metoprolol succinate for the primary endpoint of time to first atrial fibrillation (AF) event; however, AF burden and other rhythm control measures were not analyzed. Methods - The prevalence of ECGs in normal sinus rhythm, AF interventions for rhythm control (cardioversion, ablation and antiarrhythmic drugs), and biomarkers were evaluated in the overall population entering efficacy follow-up (N=257). AF burden was evaluated for 24 weeks in the device substudy (N=67). Results - In 257 patients with HF the mean age was 65.6 ± 10.0 years, 18% were female, mean left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) was 36%, and 51% had persistent AF. Cumulative 24-week AF burden was 24.4% (95% CI: 18.5, 30.2) for bucindolol and 36.7% (95% CI: 30.0, 43.5) for metoprolol (33% reduction, p < 0.001). Daily AF burden at the end of follow-up was 15.1% (95% CI: 3.2, 27.0) for bucindolol and 34.7% (95% CI: 17.9, 51.2) for metoprolol (55% reduction, p < 0.001). For the metoprolol and bucindolol respective groups the prevalence of ECGs in normal sinus rhythm was 4.20 and 3.03 events per patient (39% increase in the bucindolol group, p < 0.001), while the rate of AF interventions was 0.56 and 0.82 events per patient (32% reduction for bucindolol, p = 0.011). Reductions in plasma norepinephrine (p = 0.038) and NT-proBNP (p = 0.009) were also observed with bucindolol compared to metoprolol. Conclusions - Compared with metoprolol, bucindolol reduced AF burden, improved maintenance of sinus rhythm, and lowered the need for additional rhythm control interventions in patients with HF and the ADRB1 Arg389Arg genotype.
