AbstractA taxonomic revision of Hyboserica uncovers an unexpected diversity of species from Southern African forest remnants. The work results in the description of a new genus, Leoserica gen. nov., a new combination, a new synonymy and 32 new species are described. The lectotypes of Serica capensis and Triodonta caffra are designated. The habitus and male genitalia of all revised species are illustrated. A species distribution map and an identification key to the species are provided. Phylogenetic analysis reveals a deep split into one very diverse eastern clade that is distributed north to Zimbabwe, and one western clade that is restricted to the fynbos of the Cape Region.

The genera of the family Monomachidae are revised. Chasca Johnson & Musetti, new genus, is described, with two species:Chasca andina Musetti & Johnson, new species (type species, Chile) and C. gravis Musetti & Johnson, new species (Peru).The genus Tetraconus Szépligeti is treated as a junior synonym of Monomachus Klug (new synonymy), and its type species istransferred to Monomachus as M. mocsaryi (Szépligeti), new combination A phylogenetic analysis places Chasca and Mono-machus as sister-groups; within Monomachus, the three species of Australia and two species of New Guinea are basal, and the radiation of 21 species in tropical America and Valdivia is recovered as a monophyletic group.

Spathacanthus is a Mesoamerican genus that occurs in tropical and temperate regions from southern Mexico to Costa Rica; its taxonomy has not been updated for two decades. In view of the fact that a new species has been discovered and that the interspecific affinities in this genus have not been addressed to date, the present study aims to revise the genus Spathacanthus. Specimens of plants of this genus collected from across the distribution range and deposited in herbaria and digital databases were reviewed. In parallel, a cladistic analysis was carried out, based on morphological characters in order to examine relationships between species. Four species of Spathacanthus were recognised: one endemic to Costa Rica, another micro-endemic to Veracruz in Mexico, one more restricted to the forests of Mexico and Guatemala and the last one more widely distributed. Reflecting the previously limited knowledge of the group, many of the specimens that we studied had been misidentified. A key to differentiate these species is provided, supplemented with photographs, drawings and other illustrations, morphological descriptions, synonymy and ecological data. Results, presented here, extend the distribution range of some taxa and a distribution map is presented. The cladistic analysis recovered the genus as monophyletic, showing that S. hoffmannii and S. hahnianus are sister taxa and S. magdalenae was found to be more closely related to S. parviflorus. These plants are vulnerable to degradation and habitat loss.

AbstractKeys are provided to the five genera and 12 species of Philaenini in North America. Philaenus (Stål) is redefined to include only two species, one of which, spumarius L., 1758 (= rubra Capanni, 1894, = aurata Capanni, 1894, new synonymies) is represented in North America by three introduced subspecies: quadrimaculatus (Sch.) in eastern and western continental America, spumarius s.s. in Newfoundland, and tesselatus (Mel.) from one locality in southern Ontario. Philaenus parallels Stearns is removed to Paraphilaenus Vilb. as its sole Nearctic representative (new combination) and Philaenus lineatus (L.) belongs to the distinctive genus Neophilaenus Hpt. Philaronia Ball is represented in North America by five species: abjecta (Uhl.), canadensis (Wal.), fuscovaria (Stål) new combination, pauca n. sp. and superba n. sp. Philaenarcys new genus includes three species: bilineata (Say), 1831, new combination (= Ptyelus basivitta Wlk., 1851, new synonymy), killa n. sp., and spartina n. sp.

The family Nomoclastidae is revised and, based on a cladistic analysis, Callcosma Roewer, 1932 is transferred to the family from Cranaidae. The monotypic genus Napostygnus Roewer, 1929, hitherto considered incertae sedis, is also assigned to Nomoclastidae. Zygopachylus Chamberlin, 1925 and Poassa Roewer, 1943 are synonymised under Quindina Roewer, 1914, consequently creating the new combinations Quindina limbata (Roewer, 1914) and Quindina albomarginis (Chamberlin, 1925). The new combination Quindina marginata (Roewer, 1963), comb. nov. is proposed, as the type-species of Deriacrus, D. simoni Roewer, 1932, is not congeneric with Deriacrus marginatus Roewer, 1963 and has the synapomorphies of Quindina, such as a row of large rounded tubercles on the lateral margin and enlarged tubercles on the dorsal scutum. A new genus and species are proposed, Kichua rheimsae, sp. nov., from Ecuador (type locality: Ecuador, Napo, Cantón Quijos, Parroquira Cozanga, Yanayacu Research Station). In addition, seven new species are herein described: Callcosma abrapatricia, sp. nov. (type locality: Peru, Moyobamba, Abra Patricia Private Conservation Area); Callcosma cofan, sp. nov. (type locality: Ecuador, Sucumbíos, Cabanas Cuyabeno); Callcosma barasana, sp. nov. (type locality: Colombia, Vaupés, Tararira, Estacción Biológica da Caparu); Quindina albiocularia, sp. nov. (type locality: Panama, Coclé, Valle de Antón); Quindina burbayar, sp. nov. (type locality: Panama, Reserva Natural Privada Burbayar); Quindina kuna, sp. nov. (type locality: Panama, Darién, Chucantí); and Quindina morae, sp. nov. (type locality: Panama, Gamboa, Sendero del Oleoducto).

The Australian genus of Eurybrachidae Stål, 1862 (Hemiptera, Fulgoromorpha) Olonia Stål, 1862 is redescribed and reviewed. Seven new species are described: O. bourgoini sp. nov. (N Queensland, Chillagoe), O. danielsi sp. nov. (N Queensland, Cape York Peninsula), O. guillaumei sp. nov. (N Queensland), O. hochae sp. nov. (N Queensland, Undara), O. monteithi sp. nov. (Queensland), O. rylandae sp. nov. (N Queensland, Chillagoe) and O. soulierae sp. nov. (Queensland). Platybrachys nobilis (Stål, 1863) is transferred to Olonia and the new combination Olonia nobilis (Stål, 1863) comb. nov., is proposed. Olonia ornata Lallemand, 1928 and O. apicalis (Walker, 1851) are removed from Olonia and transferred to Platybrachys Stål, 1859 and Maeniana Metcalf, 1952, respectively. Hence, the new combinations Platybrachys ornata (Lallemand, 1928) comb. nov. and Maeniana apicalis (Walker, 1851) comb. nov. are proposed. The new genus Stalobrachys gen. nov. is described to accommodate Olonia alboapicata Jacobi, 1928 and the new combination S. alboapicata (Jacobi, 1928) gen. et comb. nov. is proposed. The male genitalia are illustrated and photographs of habitus, a distribution map, biological data and an identification key are provided. The genus Olonia currently contains twelve species and the genus Stalobrachys gen. nov. has one species.

The article describes a new genus, Laberlia (type species − Langsdorfia bellaria Dognin, 1911), including three species, distributed in northern and central Andes (the territory of Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru). We establish a new combination: Laberlia bellaria (Dognin, 1911) comb. nov. Two new species are described: Laberlia illapai Yakovlev, Naydenov, Penco sp. nov. (type locality − Ecuador, Morona Santiago, 55 km Road Rio Bamba-Macas) and Laberlia apusorum Yakovlev, Naydenov, Penco sp. nov. (type locality – Peru, La Libertad, Pataz prov., S of Tayabamba). The article is illustrated with images of type specimens and male genital structures, the distribution map is provided.

Ninetines (Pholcidae: Ninetinae) are tiny spiders, largely restricted to arid habitats where they lead reclusive lives under objects close to the soil. They are rare in collections and poorly known in any respect. Only two genera were previously known from the Old World, the monotypic Mystes Bristowe from Malaysia, and Ninetis Simon, with four described species ranging from Yemen to Namibia. Here we describe a new genus from Egypt and Uzbekistan, represented by a single new species, Nita elsaff n. gen., n. sp. Based on ultrastructural data and cladistic analysis we hypothesize that this species is more closely related to some largely New World ninetines (Chisosa Huber from Baja California and Texas, Aucana Huber from Chile and New Caledonia) than to Ninetis. We also describe the first Ninetis species from Madagascar (N. toliara n. sp.), give new records for two previously known species, and present a distribution map for Ninetis.

In this paper, the Chinese endemic new genus Doicholobosa gen. nov. is presented. Two new species, Doicholobosa rotundata sp. nov. and Doicholobosa complanatis sp. nov., and one new combination are described. Furthermore, the high-quality multifocused montage images and distribution map are provided for all treated species. Types of all the new species in this paper are preserved in the Museum of Hebei University.

AbstractThe crustose lichen genus Mycoblastus in the Northern Hemisphere includes eight recognized species sharing large, simple ascospores produced 1–2 per ascus in strongly pigmented biatorine apothecia. The monophyly of Mycoblastus and the relationship of its various species to Tephromelataceae have never been studied in detail. Data from ITS rDNA and the genes coding for translation elongation factor 1-α and DNA replication licensing factor mini-chromosome maintenance complex 7 support the distinctness of Mycoblastus s. str. from the core of the Tephromelataceae, but recover M. fucatus and an undescribed Asian species as strongly supported within the latter group. We propose accommodating these two species in a new genus, Violella, which is characterized by its brownish inner ascospore walls, Fucatus-violet hymenial pigment granules and secondary chemistry, and discuss the position of Violella relative to Calvitimela and Tephromela. We describe the new species Violella wangii T. Sprib. & Goffinet to accommodate a new species with roccellic acid from Bhutan, China, India and the Russian Far East. We also exclude Mycoblastus indicus Awasthi & Agarwal from the genus Mycoblastus and propose for it the new combination Malmidea indica (Awasthi & Agarwal) Hafellner & T. Sprib.

AbstractNeotherevella n.gen. is proposed as a replacement for Neothereva Kröber sensu Lyneborg (1976). Neothereva Kröber, 1912, is placed in new synonymy with Thereva Latreille, 1796, as the consequence of an overlooked designation of a type-species for Neothereva Kröber, 1912, by Kröber (1935). Neotherevella is fully described. Five specific names are placed in new combination with Neotherevella, which is known from Namibia, Mauritania, Algeria, Sudan, Egypt, Israel, Uzbechistan and Mongolia. It is demonstrated that two species described in combination with Neothereva by Zaitzev (1970) do not belong to Neotherevella.
