A Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, non-motile and non-spore-forming actinobacterium, designated as F435T, was isolated from soil sample collected from the Cholistan Desert, Pakistan. The taxonomic position of the strain was established by using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. The cells were coccoid-shaped and found in single or arrangement of pairs. The novel strain grew at 15‒37 °C (optimum, 25‒30 °C), pH 7‒11 (optimum, pH 7–8) and in the presence of 0‒8% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 0 %). Results of blast analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that Auraticoccus monumenti MON 2.2T was its closest relative with 97.4 % similarity followed by Desertihabitans aurantiacus CPCC 204711T (95.2 %). In phylogenetic trees, strain F435T formed a robust cluster with the only member of the genus Auraticoccus . The peptidoglycan isomer present in the cell wall was ll-diaminopimelic acid. The major fatty acid was determined to be anteiso-C15 : 0. Characteristic polar lipids of the strain were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphoglycolipids and glycolipids. The predominant menaquinone was MK-9(H4). The genomic G+C content was calculated as 73.5 mol%. The digital DNA–DNA hybridization (GGDC) and average nucleotide identity (ANI) values between strain F435T and A. monumenti MON 2.2T were 24.6 and 81.8 %, respectively. Based on the results of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic, phylogenetic and phylogenomic analyses, strain F435T represents a novel specie of the genus Auraticoccus , for which the name Auraticoccus cholistanensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is F435T (=JCM 33648T=CGMCC 1.17443T). The description of the genus Auraticoccus has also been emended.

A novel actinobacterium, strain A8036T, isolated from soil, was investigated by using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. The organism formed extensively branched substrate hyphae that generated spiral chains of spores with irregular surfaces. The cell wall contained meso-diaminopimelic acid (type III) and cell-wall sugars were glucose, madurose, mannose and ribose. The predominant menaquinones were MK-9(H6) and MK-9(H4). The phospholipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidylinositol mannosides. The major cellular fatty acids were iso-C16 : 0, C17 : 1 cis9, C16 : 0, C15 : 0 and 10-methyl C17 : 0. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, the closest phylogenetic neighbours of strain A8036T were Actinomadura meyerae DSM 44715T (99.23 % similarity), Actinomadura bangladeshensis DSM 45347T (98.9 %) and Actinomadura chokoriensis DSM 45346T (98.3 %). However, DNA–DNA relatedness and phenotypic data demonstrated that strain A8036T could be clearly distinguished from the type strains of all closely related Actinomadura species. Strain A8036T is therefore considered to represent a novel species of the genus Actinomadura , for which the name Actinomadura geliboluensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is A8036T ( = DSM 45508T = KCTC 19868T).

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-spore-forming, non-flagellated and coccoid, ovoid or rod-shaped bacterial strain, W-BA2T, was isolated from a brown algae reservoir in Wando of South Korea. Strain W-BA2T grew optimally at 25 °C, at pH 7.0–8.0 and in the presence of approximately 2.0–3.0 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain W-BA2T fell within the clade comprising the type strains of species of the genus Sulfitobacter , clustering coherently with the type strains of Sulfitobacter donghicola and Sulfitobacter guttiformis showing sequence similarity values of 98.0–98.1 %. Sequence similarities to the type strains of the other species of the genus Sulfitobacter were 96.0–97.4 %. Strain W-BA2T contained Q-10 as the predominant ubiquinone and C18 : 1ω7c as the major fatty acid. The major polar lipids of strain W-BA2T were phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, one unidentified aminolipid and one unidentified lipid. The DNA G+C content of strain W-BA2T was 55.0 mol% and its DNA–DNA relatedness values with the type strains of Sulfitobacter donghicola , Sulfitobacter guttiformis and Sulfitobacter mediterraneus were 16–23 %. The differential phenotypic properties, together with the phylogenetic and genetic distinctiveness, revealed that strain W-BA2T is separated from other species of the genus Sulfitobacter . On the basis of the data presented, strain W-BA2T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Sulfitobacter , for which the name Sulfitobacter undariae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is W-BA2T ( = KCTC 42200T = NBRC 110523T).

An aerobic, rod-shaped, Gram-stain-positive, actinobacterial strain, designated 1.0914T, was isolated from a stalactite sample collected from a cave located in Guizhou Province, southwest PR China. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, strain 1.0914T shared highest similarities values with Nocardioides pelophilus CGMCC 4.7388T (97.7 %), Nocardioides immobilis CCTCC AB 2017083T (97.5 %) and Nocardioides silvaticus CCTCC AB 2018079T (97.3 %) and values lower than 97.0 % to other members of the genus Nocardioides . Phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain 1.0914T formed an isolated branch with N. pelophilus CGMCC 4.7388T, N. immobilis CCTCC AB 2017083T and N. silvaticus CCTCC AB 2018079T. The polar lipids contained phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol and one unidentified phospholipid in the cellular membrane. The major fatty acids were identified as iso-C16 : 0, C18 : 1 ω9c, C17 : 1 ω8c and C16 : 0. The predominant respiratory quinone was MK-8(H4) and ll-diaminopimelic acid was the diagnostic diamino acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan. The genomic DNA G+C content was 71.1 mol%. The orthologous average nucleotide identiy values between N. pelophilus CGMCC 4.7388T, N. immobilis CCTCC AB 2017083T, N. silvaticus CCTCC 2018079T and strain 1.0914T were 82.3, 81.7 and 81.9 % respectively. DNA–DNA hybridization values between N. pelophilus CGMCC 4.7388T, N. immobilis CCTCC AB 2017083T, N. silvaticus CCTCC 2018079T and strain 1.0914T were 25.2, 24.6 and 24.5 % respectively. The phylogenetic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic data supported the classification of strain 1.0914T as representing a new species of Nocardioides , for which the name Nocardioides stalactiti sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 1.0914T (=CCTCC AB 2018266T=KCTC 49243T).

A Gram-stain-positive, facultatively anaerobic and rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain xj7T, was isolated from roots of Typha angustifolia L. growing in Beijing Cuihu Wetland, China. The isolate was identified as a member of the genus Paenibacillus based on phenotypic characteristics and phylogenetic inference. The novel strain was spore-forming, motile, catalase-positive and oxidase-negative. Optimal growth of strain xj7T occurred at 28–30 °C and pH 7.0–7.5. Diphosphatidylglycerol was the most abundant polar lipid and occurred along with phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, one unknown phospholipid and three unknown aminophospholipids. The diamino acid found in the cell-wall peptidoglycan was meso-diaminopimelic acid. The predominant isoprenoid quinone was MK-7. The major fatty acid components were anteiso-C15 : 0 (56.1 %), iso-C16 : 0 (9.1 %), C16 : 0 (8.0 %), iso-C14 : 0 (6.3 %) and iso-C15 : 0 (5.1 %). The G+C content of genomic DNA was 47.9 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence showed that strain xj7T fell within the evolutionary radiation encompassed by the genus Paenibacillus , its closest neighbours were Paenibacillus borealis KK19T (97.5 %) and Paenibacillus durus DSM 1735T (97.1 %). However, the DNA–DNA relatedness values between strain xj7T and P. borealis KK19T and between strain xj7T and P. durus DSM 1735T, were both 35 %. Based on phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic properties, strain xj7T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Paenibacillus , for which the name Paenibacillus typhae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is xj7T ( = CGMCC 1.11012T = DSM 25190T).

A Gram-stain-positive, aerobic actinomycete, designated strain YIM M13141T, was isolated from a marine sediment sample from the South China Sea, and its taxonomic position was determined using a polyphasic approach. The strain produced branched substrate mycelium and aerial hyphae, but no diffusible pigments were produced on the media tested. At maturity, substrate mycelium was fragmented and spore chains were formed on aerial hyphae and substrate mycelium. Optimum growth occurred at 28 °C, 1–3 % (w/v) NaCl and pH 7.0. Comparative analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence showed that the isolate belongs to the genus Pseudonocardia , showing highest levels of similarity with respect to Pseudonocardia sichuanensis KLBMP 1115T (97.1 %), Pseudonocardia tetrahydrofuranoxydans K1T (97.1 %) and Pseudonocardia kunmingensis YIM 63158T (97.0 %). Whole-organism hydrolysates of the strain contained meso-diaminopimelic acid and the sugars galactose, glucose, mannose and arabinose. The predominant menaquinone was MK-8(H4). The polar lipids detected were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylmethylethanolamine, phosphatidylethanolamine, two unknown phosphoglycolipids and two glycolipids. The major fatty acid was iso-C16 : 0. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 73.1 mol%. DNA–DNA relatedness with P. tetrahydrofuranoxydans DSM 44239T was 42.8±3.5 % (mean±sd). Based on phylogenetic analysis, phenotypic and genotypic data, it is concluded that the isolate represents a novel species of the genus Pseudonocardia , for which the name Pseudonocardia sediminis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YIM M13141T ( = DSM 45779T = JCM 18540T).

A Gram-stain-positive, spore-forming, rod-shaped, motile, strictly aerobic bacterial strain, designated CAU 1051T, was isolated from a sand dune and its taxonomic position was investigated using a polyphasic approach. Strain CAU 1051T grew optimally at pH 5.0 and 30 °C. NaCl was not required for growth but up to 10.0 % (w/v) NaCl was tolerated. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain CAU 1051T formed a distinct lineage within the genus Oceanobacillus and was most closely related to Oceanobacillus profundus CL-MP28T, Oceanobacillus caeni S-11T, and Oceanobacillus picturae LMG 19492T (96.8 %, 95.6 % and 95.3 % similarity, respectively). DNA–DNA reassociation analysis showed that strain CAU 1051T displayed 28.2±0.7 % relatedness to O. profundus KCTC 13625T. Strain CAU 1051T contained MK-7 as the only isoprenoid quinone and anteiso-C15 : 0 as the major fatty acid. The cell wall peptidoglycan of strain CAU 1051T contained meso-diaminopimelic acid. The polar lipids were composed of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, six unidentified phospholipids, an unidentified glycolipid, and six unidentified polar lipids. The major whole-cell sugars were glucose and ribose. The DNA G+C content was 36.3 mol%. On the basis of phenotypic data and phylogenetic inference, strain CAU 1051T represents a novel species of the genus Oceanobacillus for which the name Oceanobacillus chungangensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CAU 1051T ( = KCTC 33035T = CCUG 63270T).

A Gram-positive-staining bacterium, designated Y16T, was isolated from a soil sample from Yunnan Province, China. The isolate grew optimally at 25–30 °C, grew at pH 6.0–9.0 and could grow with 3 % NaCl. Strain Y16T had cell-wall peptidoglycan based on meso-diaminopimelic acid. The predominant menaquinones were MK-9(H4) and MK-9(H2). The major fatty acid methyl esters were anteiso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C17 : 0 and C16 : 0. These chemotaxonomic characteristics suggested that the organism belonged to the genus Actinoplanes . Strain Y16T shared 98.7, 98.3 and 97.9 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with Actinoplanes deccanensis IFO 13994T, A. abujensis A4029T and A. brasiliensis DSM 43805T, respectively. The DNA G+C content of the isolate was 70.8 mol%. DNA–DNA relatedness between the novel isolate and the type strains of A. deccanensis , A. abujensis and A. brasiliensis was 35.2, 32.0 and 22.3 %, respectively. In addition, the pattern of phenotypic properties distinguished strain Y16T from its closest phylogenetic neighbours. It is therefore concluded that strain Y16T ( = CGMCC 4.6857T = JCM 17700T) represents a novel species of the genus Actinoplanes , for which the name Actinoplanes atraurantiacus sp. nov. is proposed.

A Gram-reaction-positive, endospore-forming bacterium, designated strain P1T, was isolated from water samples collected from Pasinler Hot Spring and characterized using a polyphasic approach to clarify its taxonomic position. Strain P1T was found to have chemotaxonomic and morphological characteristics consistent with its classification in the genus Bacillus . The strain shared the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence identity values with Bacillus thermolactis R-6488T (97.6 %) and Bacillus kokeshiiformis MO-04T (97.2 %) and formed a distinct clade with both type strains in the phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences. Strain P1T could grow optimally at 55 °C and in the presence of 2 % NaCl. The organism was found to contain meso-diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylglycerol. The predominant menaquinone was determined to be MK-7. The major cellular fatty acids were identified as iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0. Based upon the consensus of phenotypic and phylogenetic analyses, strain P1T represents a novel species of the genus Bacillus , for which the name Bacillus pasinlerensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is P1T (=DSM 107529T=CECT 9885T=NCCB 100674T).

Three novel actinomycete strains, designated as DR6-1T, DR6-2 and DR6-4, isolated from the roots of Dendrobium heterocarpum Lindl in Thailand were studied using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. The strains grew at 20–37 °C, at pH 5–10 and with 5 % (w/v) NaCl. They contained meso-diaminopimelic acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan and MK-9(H4) was a major menaquinone. Arabinose and galactose were the major sugars in the cell wall. The predominant cellular fatty acids were iso-C16 : 0 and iso-C15 : 0. The detected polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, hydroxyphosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidylglycerol. Strains DR6-1T, DR6-2 and DR6-4 shared 99.9–100 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity and were closely related to Amycolatopsis echigonensis JCM 21831T (98.7-98.8%). The approximate genome size of strain DR6-1T was 9.6 Mb with a G+C content of 69.6 mol%. The ANIb and dDDH values between genomic sequences of strain DR6-1T and Amycolatopsis echigonensis JCM21831T, Amycolatopsis rubida JCM 10871T and Amycolatopsis nivea KCTC 39515T were 90.55, 92.25, 92.60%, and 47.20, 52.10 and 52.50%, respectively. Based on the phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and genotypic characteristics, it has been concluded that strains DR6-1T, DR6-2 and DR6-4 represent a novel species of the genus Amycolatopsis for which the name Amycolatopsis dendrobii sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is DR6-1T (=JCM 33742T=KCTC 49546T=TISTR 2840T).

In this study, the taxonomic position of an actinobacterium, strain YIM M 10931T, which was isolated from a mangrove sediment sample collected in Dugong Creek, Little Andaman, India, was determined by a polyphasic approach. This Gram-positive, aerobic strain produced branched substrate mycelium and aerial hyphae, which differentiated into short, hooked or spiral spore chains. The organism contained meso-diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan. The whole cell sugars consisted of mannose, ribose, glucose, galactose and madurose. The cellular fatty acid profile mainly consisted of iso-C16 : 0, 10-methyl C18 : 0 and C16 : 0. The quinone system was predominantly composed of MK-9(H8) (45.5 %) and MK-9(H6) (39 %). The phospholipids detected were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol mannoside, phosphatidylinositol and two unknown phospholipids. The organism showed a combination of morphological and chemotaxonomic properties typical of members of the genus Actinomadura . Moreover, phylogenetic analysis based on a 16S rRNA gene sequence generated from the strain identified its closest relatives as Actinomadura cremea DSM 43676T (98.4 % sequence similarity), Actinomadura rifamycini DSM 43936T (97.4 %) and Actinomadura apis IM17-1T (96.9 %). It was obvious from the resulting phylogenetic trees that strain YIM M 10931T belongs to a distinct subclade within the evolutionary radiation of the genus Actinomadura . DNA–DNA hybridizations of strain YIM M 10931T with A. cremea DSM 43676T and A. rifamycini DSM 43936T were performed and further confirmed that the isolate represents a separate genomic species. Based on the phenotypic and genotypic characteristics presented, it is proposed that strain YIM M 10931T represents a novel species within the genus Actinomadura , for which the name Actinomadura sediminis sp. nov. is proposed; the type strain is YIM M 10931T ( = CCTCC AA 2010009T = DSM 45500T).
