Abstract Stress-temperature relations at constant elongation have been investigated for a pure-gum vulcanizate of natural rubber. The rubber was first allowed to relax for about two hours at constant elongation and constant temperature to minimize the effects of short time relaxation of stress. The stress, except under special conditions, was changing very little at the end of this time. The stress-temperature relations for temperatures below the relaxation temperature could be represented by straight lines. The values of the slopes and intercepts of these lines are presented in tabular form. The stresses at the end of the relaxations were used as the basis of stress-strain curves. Crystallization was found to be an easily-recognized factor of considerable importance in the interpretation of the results.

Superconductor samples Mg(B1-2x(SiC)x)2 (x=0, 5%, 10%) are synthesized from nano SiC, Mg and amorphous boron powders by microwave direct synthesis in a short time. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis indicates that the phases of the synthesis sample are MgB2 (major phase) and a small amount of MgO and Mg2Si. The main peaks of MgB2, (100), (101), (002) and (110) are shift to the higher diffraction angle position and the width of half height of the diffraction plane is broaden for the SiC doping Mg(B1-2x(SiC)x)2, which show that the B positions of MgB2 are partly substituted and the grains of MgB2 are fine. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation shows that the MgB2 grain size is very small and the sample is tightness (compact). The onset superconducting transition temperature of the Mg(B1-2x(SiC)x)2 (x=0, 5%, 10%) samples measured by magnetization measurement are about 37.6 K, 37.0 K, 36.8 K respectively. The critical current density Jc are calculated according to the Bean model from the magnetization hysteresis loop of the slab Mg(B1-2x(SiC)x)2 (x=0, 5%, 10%) samples. The critical current density Jc of nano SiC doping Mg(B1-2x(SiC)x)2 samples are greatly enhanced. In higher external magnetic field, the Jc of 10% SiC doped sample is the highest; in lower external magnetic field, the Jc of 5% SiC doped sample is the highest; while in the whole external magnetic field, the Jc of undoped sample is the lowest.

We investigated a critical short-time relaxation in a lattice gauge theory. A systematic procedure of estimating critical point based on the "short-time scaling" is formulated. It is applied to the (2+1)-dimensional SU(2) lattice gauge theory at finite temperature to deduce its critical point. Finally, we studied the short-time relaxation behavior at the critical temperature starting either from "cold" and "hot" initial configuration, and calculated the dynamic critical exponents θ and z, as well as the static exponents β/ν.

Polycrystalline MgB 2 samples with 0, 5, 10, and 20 wt% nano- Y - ZrO 2 (YSZ) powder addition were prepared by short time, as little as several minutes, or long time in-situ reaction process. The phases, microstructures and flux pinning behaviors were characterized using X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and Magnetic Measurements. Results indicated that nano-YSZ particles included in MgB 2 grains. Samples doped with 10wt% YSZ powders showed new record of critical current density Jc as high as 1×106 and 4×106 A/cm 2 in low magnetic fields at 30 and 20K, respectively. However, the Jc drops faster compared to that made by long time sintering samples. It is proposed that the improved Jc in low fields was due to the enhanced density of the sample, which was caused by the YSZ nano-particle inclusion.
