Purpose The challenges and factors of household adoption and the use of alternative energy sources have been a point of discussion among researchers. The purpose of this study is to apply a variant of the unified theory of adoption and use of technology (i.e. UTAUT 2) to explore the effect of various constructs that influence technology adoption on the consumers’ intention to adopt (and use) solar power generators (SPG) at the household level and the subsequent switching behavior. Design/methodology/approach Based on survey data collected from six cities in India (n = 1,246), factor analysis and structural equation modeling are applied for data analysis and testing the study hypotheses. Findings The results of the structural equation model found UTAUT constructs performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence and hedonic to positively affect behavioral intentions to adopt SPG. However, facilitating conditions and perceived value was not found to affect behavioral intentions to adopt SPG. Behavioral intentions to adopt SPG was found to positively influence the switching behavior. Research limitations/implications The present study augments the domain of alternative energy usage behavior by applying the UTAUT 2 in the adoption of alternative energy sources (namely, solar) and subsequent switching behavior from traditional sources at the household level. Practical implications The findings from the present study will guide the marketers and policymakers on the consumer attitudinal and behavioral aspects of solar energy usage at the household level and subsequent switching behavior. Originality/value The present study is novel as it moves beyond household-level behavioral intention to use solar energy and includes the switching behavior to shift to solar power from traditional energy sources.

Significance Poland and the Baltic states have strongly condemned the repression of protests following the 2020 elections in Belarus, supporting the opposition and engaging the international community against President Alexander Lukashenka's government. Their policies towards Belarus previously encouraged economic and political cooperation, trade and independence from Russia. Now democratic values are being prioritised over economic concerns. Impacts Belarus will pursue a foreign policy more closely oriented to Russia, having lost the support of its closest EU allies. Lukashenka will find it harder to resist pressure to increase Russia's military presence in Belarus. The Baltic states will explore alternative energy sources to reduce reliance on Belarus.

This community service program aims to utilize solar power as a source of electrical energy to replace the PLN electricity source at Bopongan RT 04 Padukuhan Kauman, Tamanan, Banguntapan, Bantul. The method of implementing this abdimas begins with data collection of residents 'houses that have not yet been supplied with electricity from PLN, then socialization is carried out about the theory of solar panels to residents and ends with the installation of solar panels in residents' homes. The results of the Community Service were quite satisfying, namely residents who had not yet received PLN electricity were able to enjoy lighting with alternative energy sources.

Solar energy is one source of energy and has advantages compared with fossil energy sources. Solar energy is very necessary to be researched and developed further, including at the University of Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo. Utilization of solar energy, it is by preparing the installation of Photovoltaic Cell (solar cells) to determine the placement position and angle of the slope. The utilization of solar power will be applied at the Laboratory of Electrical Engineering University of Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo to make Solar Building System (SBS). This study will carry out an analysis of the utilization of solar energy compared to using the resources of PT. State Electricity Company (PT. PLN). The analysis was done with the installation of SBS consider investment and installation costs grid drawn on the Net Present Value, and compare the operating cost between SBS with the grid system. This research show the results of the analysis in gain by using SBS will have a value higher efficiency compared to the grid system at a certain time span by considering Break Event Point (BEP) SBS installation investment. Over 21 Years.

Due to increasing financial and environmental concerns, governmental rules, regulations and incentives, alternative energy sources are expected to grow at a faster pace than conventional sources of energy. However, the current body of research providing comparative decision-making models for conventional and alternative energy sources is limited. Furthermore, existing literature also falls short in offering a unifying model that benchmarks the technical efficiencies of countries in terms of their energy usage in relation to environmental impact. This paper proposes two sets of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models to calculate and rank the technical efficiencies of (i) conventional and alternative energy sources for the United States, and (ii) energy usage of selected countries depending on various criteria. The first set of DEA models considers both the economics of energy sources and additional environmental criteria such as CO2 emissions and damage cost. The second set evaluates the relative technical efficiencies of the top 25 petroleum consuming countries in the world in terms of the environment. Numerical examples are also included to demonstrate the functionality of the proposed models.

This paper presents a viability study of solar renewable power generation system for telecommunication tower applications. Rapid depletion of fossil fuel resources necessitated research on alternative energy sources. A solar power generation using photovoltaic system is one of the reliable alternative energy sources for conventional power generation system. Main objective of this paper is to supply uninterruptible power for telecommunication tower equipments from standalone solar power system with necessitate energy storage unit and a backup power system. The Energy Management Controller is developed using soft computing techniques which monitor the power generation from renewable source, SOC of battery bank continuously. The working rules of the monitoring system have been developed for all seasonal climatic weather conditions in India. It provides uninterrupted power during day time, improves life time of battery and minimized usage of diesel run generator. The whole system is analyzed using MATLAB / Simulink.

Subject Global silver market dynamics. Significance The price of most commodities has risen since 2015 but not that of silver. Indeed, the price has barely changed in two years and has fallen nearly 3% this year. Investor interest in exchange traded products (ETPs) in 2016 was not sustained in 2017 but while low volatility discouraged investors, manufacturing demand rose. Strong demand from the solar panel industry is surprising sceptics. Impacts After two years of unusually strong zinc prices, large projects will come online, increasing the amount of silver mined as a by-product. US tariffs on imported solar cells will boost demand for alternative energy sources, eventually hurting silver consumption. The largest silver exchange, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, will offer option trading in smaller amounts, matching traders’ preferences. Increased silver use in light karat gold jewellery in India and China will support demand for the metal.

The article is devoted to the study of the development of «green» energy in Ukraine. Extraction of non-renewable resources reduces our reserves, and using in the process of production and consumption leads to global warming. Further development of «green» energy will reduce the problems associated with environmental pollution and ensure consumer demand for clean energy at low prices. The article analyzes in details the current state of «green» energy of the country, considers promising opportunities for investment in the industry by Ukrainian and foreign entrepreneurs, which will create and implement new technologies in production, modernize obsolete enterprises. The main problems of using alternative energy sources are highlighted, the prospects for the development of «green» energy are determined, the possibilities and expediency of the transition to ecological types of energy are considered, taking into account the features of the country's economy. The article considers and analyzes the energy balance of the state, which is significantly dominated by the use of nuclear fuel, coal and gas. The use of modern and advanced technologies in the use of renewable energy sources will increase the share of clean energy in the energy balance of the country. The chronology of development of solar power plants in Ukraine is considered. It is noted that due to scientific and technological progress, reduction of prices for solar power plant equipment, «green» tariff capacity of generating alternative energy facilities will continue to grow. The volumes of energy production, which is produced with the help of renewable sources, are analyzed, the number of enterprises that receive income from the sale of electricity at the «green» tariff is considered. A comparative analysis of the size of the «green» tariff in Ukraine and European countries, the prospects for solving existing problems, proposed measures to fully disclose the potential use of alternative energy sources. The positive aspects of the use of alternative energy are analyzed; the role of the country in the process of implementing an effective energy strategy, creating an electricity market and the country's transition to a carbon-neutral economy is analyzed.
