Does information technology governance strengthen or weaken contract control in digital platform relationships?

PurposeThis study investigates both direct and moderation effects of two dimensions of contract control and information technology governance on platform participants' financial performance.Design/methodology/approachUsing data collected from 384 platform participants from China's two largest digital platforms, hierarchical regression is used to validate the conceptual model and hypotheses.FindingsThe empirical results show that contract completeness and information technology governance independently improved financial performance, while contract enforcement had an inverted U-shaped effect on financial performance. Furthermore, information technology governance amplified the positive effect of contract completeness, but not of contract enforcement, on financial performance.Originality/valueThis study advances the literature on partnership control by showing the interactive role of information technology governance and contract control. It also enriches research on information technology usage by revealing how information technology governance benefits business partnerships. Finally, it extends transaction cost theory by demonstrating that different dimensions of contracts have different effects on governing interfirm relationships.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop a formal set of information technology (IT) governance practices based on sufficiency economy philosophy (SEP) to support the generic context for Thai universities. Design/methodology/approach – The research methodology in this study is divided into two main phases that are conceptualization and operationalization. In the phase of conceptualization, the authors reviewed literature related to the implementation of IT governance in universities and the principles of SEP in order to conceptualize an initial idea of IT governance on the basis of SEP. In the phase of operationalization, the authors performed in-depth interviews with the CIOs of 20 universities, five IT experts, and five SEP experts in order to verify the proposed concept. Findings – This study provides two key findings: the IT governance practices based on SEP for Thai universities and the mapping of IT governance practices based on SEP with ISO/IEC 38500. Practical implications – The total of 65 practices presented in this study can be used as a guideline for handling of IT governance issues in Thai universities. Originality/value – This study provides university IT governance practices based on the principles of SEP that is widely accepted and highly appreciated in Thailand.

The main objective of this article is to investigate the existence of configurations of information technology governance within organizations and to zoom in on their role in driving business value. This study proposes a research model that relies on the configurational theory in an attempt to reveal different clusters of IT governance practices and link them with the performance of business units from a financial and non-financial perspective. To test the model, 57 matched surveys were collected from medium to large international organizations. Three configurations of IT governance practices have emerged with distinct and significant impact on the business unit non-financial performance. However, no significant impact on the business unit financial performance was directly found. The results show that more mature IT governance practices within organizations can result in higher levels of performance at the business unit level in terms of business processes, decision making, innovation, and legal and ethical compliance.

Purposeinvestigate and analyze the aspects of legitimation, theorization and trends for the evolution of research in information technology governance (ITG) in Brazil, according to researchers familiar with the matter.Design/methodology/approachBy means of a qualitative and quantitative research of exploratory-descriptive approach, the Delphi method was applied using a questionnaire supported by content analysis.FindingsITG is an increasingly interdisciplinary research field, with significant help from other fields of knowledge, such as administration, computer science and engineering. The main means of ITG publication are periodicals (MISQ, JMIS, JISTEM RESI), scientific events (AMCIS, ECIS, HICSS, EnANPAD, CONTECSI) and researchers, such as Peter Weill and Edimara Mezzomo Luciano. Best practice models are the most significant theoretical frameworks, and the main trend of research are on emerging technologies such as cloud computing and Internet of things (IoT) in the context of ITG.Research limitations/implicationsTo the unavailability of some researchers to participate in the second phase of the Delphi research performed, as well as the non-completion of a third Delphi round. Likewise, the “Block B (open answer questions)” it was not contemplated in the second phase for a new collection of answers, which could partially change the results presented here.Practical implicationsThe results show important insights for ITG researchers that can allow new researches about its applications, jointly reflecting on relevant aspects for the advancement of this research field.Social implicationsThere are several research contributions to broaden the discussion and the evolution of this new scientific field in Brazil and that can be grouped for each set of stakeholders: academia and related researchers; the practicing community of business managers and private and public organizations; the academic legitimizing bodies; the non-academic legitimating bodies and researchers from other areas of knowledge.Originality/valueITG is a concept that emerged as part of corporate governance (CG), which has evolved as an emerging theme and is expanding in the international academic arena. However, the current stage of legitimation, theorization and trends of ITG in the Brazilian researches are lacked greater understanding, in order to provide better targeting for new researches.

PurposeThis paper aims to investigate information technology capabilities (ITC)’s influence on organizational performance (OP) within the hospitality industry. Specifically, it analyzes the indirect effects of sustainability practices (SP) and service quality (SQ) on the relationship between ITC and OP. The moderating effect of top management support (TMS) is also examined.Design/methodology/approachUsing a three-wave time-lagged design, 507 UAE hotels' managers took part in the study. Hierarchical regression bootstrapping approach was used to examine the hypothesis.FindingsThis study suggests that ITC are positively related to OP. Furthermore, the study found that SP and SQ mediate the ITC-OP relationship. TMS moderates the positive relationship between ITC and OP and also moderates the relationship between SQ and OP. Additionally, TMS moderates the indirect effect of SQ on the association between ITC and OP, such that the mediating effect is stronger when TMS is at a high level.Research limitations/implicationsThe study shall assist the practitioners of the hospitality firms to focus their attention on ITC to improve SQ and hence achieve optimal performance.Originality/valueThe novelty of this research lies in the presentation of an integrated framework based on a resource-based view to solve the contemporary challenges facing hospitality firms operating in emerging markets in integrating ITC and SP for better organizational results.

 Implementation of  Information Technology (IT) in an organization require significant costs with high risk  of  failure [3]. Managing data is  a matter that must be done continuously by the organization and accompanied by monitoring and measurement of achievement that has been done as to meet the aspect of integrity, availablility. In this study using COBIT as a frame work in preparing the guidelines for information technology governance at PT.  X  on  DS11,  which  focuses  on  management of  data  about  the  level  of  concern  for management (management awareness) and  maturity level (maturity level).  The study and analysis indicates that the level of concern for management (management awareness) PT. X already on a fairly level and maturity level for the current maturity level (as is) at level 3 (defined process) and to the expected level of maturity located at level 5 (optimized). From the overall study results showed that PT. X has recognized that the data is an important organizational asset.
