Background: The PWM Boost converter is a strongly nonlinear discrete system, especially when the input voltage or load varies widely, therefore, tuning the control parameters of which is a challenge work. Objective: In order to overcome the issues, particle swarm optimization (PSO) is employed for tuning the parameters of a sliding mode controller of a boost converter. Methods: Based on the analysis of the Boost converter model and its non-linear characteristics, a mathematic model of a boost converter with a sliding mode controller is built firstly. Then, the parameters of the Boost controller are adjusted based on the integrated time and absolute error (ITAE), integral square error (ISE) and integrated absolute error (IAE) indexes by PSO. Results: Simulation verification was performed, and the results show that the controllers tuned by the three indexes all have excellent robust stability. Conclusion: The controllers tuned by ITAE and ISE indexes have excellent steady-state performance, but the overshoot is large during the startup. The controller tuned by IAE index has better startup performance and slightly worse steady-state performance.

Pumped-storage power stations play a regulatory role in the power grid through frequent transition processes. The pressure pulsation in the draft tube of the pump-turbine under transient processes is important for safe operation, which is more intense than that in the steady-state condition. However, there is no effective method to obtain the exact pressure in the draft tube in the transient flow field. In this paper, the pressure in the draft tube of a pump-turbine under steady-state and transient conditions are studied by means of CFD. The reliability of the simulation method is verified by comparing the real pressure pulsation data with the test results. Due to the distribution of the pressure pulsation in the draft tube being complex and uneven, the location of the pressure monitoring points directly affects the accurate judgement of cavitation. Eight monitoring surfaces were set in the straight cone of the draft tube and nine monitoring points were set on each monitoring surface to analyze the pressure differences on the wall and inside the center of the draft tube. The relationships between the pressure pulsation value inside the center of the draft tube and on the wall are studied. The “critical” wall pressure pulsation value when cavitation occurs is obtained. This study provides references for judging cavitation occurrences by using the wall pressure pulsation value in practical engineering.

Advancements in power electronic systems has brought forth the modernization of residential power systems exponentially. The interfacing of AC and DC loads with various kinds of resources of energy has been achieved with the help of modern nanogrid architectures. This paper brings into depiction a Tapped Boost derived hybrid converter that can be used to meet the demands of both AC and DC loads having a solitary DC input. A voltage source inverter (VSI) bridge network is used instead of the single switch of a Tapped Boost converter. The VSI bridge has shoot-through protection in the inverter stage increasing its importance for smart power systems. The Tapped Boost derived converter also borrows the advantages provided by the Tapped Boost converter. The paper covers topics like the operation, steady-state analysis and operating modes of the proposed Tapped Boost-DHC. The output and input characteristics has also been tested and verified through simulatio
