Collaborative and content-based recommender systems are widely employed in several activity domains helping users in finding relevant products and services (i.e., items). However, with the increasing features of items, the users are getting more demanding in their requirements, and these recommender systems are becoming not able to be efficient for this purpose. Built on knowledge bases about users and items, constraint-based recommender systems (CBRSs) come to meet the complex user requirements. Nevertheless, this kind of recommender systems witnesses a rarity in research and remains underutilised, essentially due to difficulties in knowledge acquisition and/or in their software engineering. This paper details a generic software architecture for the CBRSs development. Accordingly, a prototype mobile application called DATAtourist has been realized using DATAtourisme ontology as a recent real-world knowledge source in tourism. The DATAtourist evaluation under varied usage scenarios has demonstrated its usability and reliability to recommend personalized touristic points of interest.

Software evolution is the essential characteristic of the real world software as the user requirements changes software needs to change otherwise it becomes less useful. In order to be used for longer time period, software needs to evolve. The software evolution can be a result of software maintenance. In this chapter, a study has been conducted on 10 versions of GLE (Graphics Layout Engine) and FGS (Flight Gear Simulator) evolved over the period of eight years. An effort is made to find the applicability of Lehman Laws on different releases of two softwares developed in C++ using Object Oriented metrics. The laws of continuous change, growth and complexity are found applicable according to data collected.

Over the years the supply chain industry has been transforming to improve the end-to-end (production to delivery) process. Supply chain management (SCM) allows various industries to oversee and better handle how their product is manufactured and delivered. It allows them to track and identify the location of the product and to be more efficient in delivery. Integrating total asset visibility (TAV) technology into the supply chain structure can provide excellent visibility of a product. This kind of visibility complemented with various packaging schemes can assist in accommodating optimization strategies for visualizing the movement of a product throughout the entire supply chain pipeline. The chapter will define SCM, discuss TAV, review how transportation as well as optimization impacts SCM and TAV, and examine the role of packaging in the context of SCM and TAV.

Nowadays supporting quality of service (QOS) for real time application is the main challenge of the wireless area network. 802.11standards use distributed Coordination Function (DCF) protocol and Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) protocol in the MAC layer. DCF protocol has only one queue for different data types, it deals with data depending on the arriving time. There is no priority to serve real time applications faster. However EDCA protocol has four queues and each queue works with specific data type. Voice, video, best effort and background are the different queues in the EDCA protocol. Different parameters and priorities are defined for each queue. The voice queue reserves the highest priority and serves its data first. In this paper QOS parameters are measured for both DCF and EDCA protocol by using OPNET simulation. The QOS parameters must reach the requirements to support QOS. The results show how QOS parameters do not reach the requirements when using DCF protocol. The values of the end to end delay and the packet loss percentage are 0.514second, 19.04% respectively. But, when using EDCA protocol the end to end delay becomes 0.0624 second and the percentage of the packet loss decreases until reach 0.00617%. So the QOS parameters achieve requirements with EDCA protocol and support QOS.

Quality of service (QoS) generally assumes more than one QoS measure which implies that routing can be categorized as an instance of routing subject to multiple constraints: such as cost, delay, bandwidth, etc. The problem of constructing multicast trees is studied to meet the QoS requirements where it is necessary to provide bounded constraints among the source and all destinations while keeping the cost of the multicast tree low. So, a kind of source-destination QoS multicast routing problem is addressed about communication networks. The algorithm we presented takes bandwidth, delay and loss rate as premise, constructs routing selected function based on shortest path, modifies selected path according to the function above so as to fit multi-QoS parameters. Simulation results show that the algorithm has both lower delay and better performance and can be extended to cases of multiple QoS parameters conveniently.

AbstractRecent learning-based approaches show promising performance improvement for the scene text removal task but usually leave several remnants of text and provide visually unpleasant results. In this work, a novel end-to-end framework is proposed based on accurate text stroke detection. Specifically, the text removal problem is decoupled into text stroke detection and stroke removal; we design separate networks to solve these two subproblems, the latter being a generative network. These two networks are combined as a processing unit, which is cascaded to obtain our final model for text removal. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method substantially outperforms the state-of-the-art for locating and erasing scene text. A new large-scale real-world dataset with 12,120 images has been constructed and is being made available to facilitate research, as current publicly available datasets are mainly synthetic so cannot properly measure the performance of different methods.

To let the service system react quickly on customers’ perception or user experience while using the service, mapping functions between Quality of Experience (QoE) and Quality of Service (QoS) are strongly required in purpose of building up an intelligent QoE control system upon adjusting QoS parameters. This article studies the changing behavior of QoE with respect to changes of QoS parameters in the context of video streaming service in an IP Multimedia Subsystem-based IP Television network (IMS-based IPTV network). The article is, in fact, an extended version of the paper published by the same authors (Thu-Huong Truong, 2012). In (Thu-Huong Truong, 2012), the authors studied QoE in both terms of Mean Opinion Scores and VQM as functions of each single QoS parameter such as: loss, jitter, and delay. In this extended content, the correlation between QoE and multiple QoS parameters will be introduced. The QoE-QoS correlation could be a significant first step to build a smart QoE monitoring and control mechanism as an added value to promote the IMS-based IPTV network.
