Urban sewage is a renewable energy source in the fields of heating and air conditioning engineering, and urban sewage source heat pump system plays an important role on energy-saving and environmental protection. According to the differences of the sewage emission coefficient and heat load of the building, it is not able to satisfy the user heating demand only on the limited temperature difference sensible heat on many situations, especially for the sewage rate of flow in small trunk canals. Therefore, a new heat system named urban sewage source heat pump system with freezing latent heat collection is proposed, in which the freezing latent heat is used as the heating source of the heat pump system at peak heat load in winter as well as the temperature difference sensible heat. According to the status, the system form is brought out and the operation modes of this heat pump system are stated, then the characteristics of the design and operating parameters are discussed.

The extremely poor sewage quality could make the sewage heat utilization difficult. The paper introduces the content and distribution property of the sewage dirt. For the dirt properties and project experience, it proposes the two basic points of the anti-blocking technique in sewage source heat pump system: filtering surface continuous regeneration and dirt continuous reduction and the request for filtering pore size parameters. It also describes the principle of filtering surface hydraulic continuous regenerative technique and establishes its mathematical model and design method of the device. The calculation and application result indicates that filtering surface hydraulic continuous regenerative technique can guarantee the filtering effect and operation flow stable.

By the analysis of the current technical conditions and existing problems, some improvements are carried out on the urban sewage source heat pump unit. are as follows: Refrigerants side switch sewage source heat pump system, dual-purpose heat exchange for evaporating and condensing & wastewater can enter the unit directly are of the main features of the improved units. Some important techniques, such as inverter screw compressor and variable compressor inner volume ratio are used to the improved unit at the same time. From the authoritative organization’s test, the improved sewage-source heat pump unit has an excellence performance in the nominal cooling and heating conditions.

As an energy-saving and environmentally friendly technology, the urban sewage source heat pump (USSHP) had been widely applied in the field of heating and air conditioning. Chinese researchers recently designed an urban sewage source heat pump system composed of a filth block device, a wastewater heat exchanger, a heat pump, and other assistant facilities, such as pumps, fans, and end user devices. The system was built in 2008, and has been in operation since then. We tested the parameters of the system on the heating and cooling status from the wastewater source to the heat pump, including the temperature and flux of sewage, the inlet and outlet parameters of different facilities, and the performance of different facilities for a typical operation status. Based on the test results, the overall COP of the system in the heating and cooling mode was computed, and the energy efficiency level was analyzed. Then a method was proposed to improve the system’s performance. After the improvements, the characteristic curves of the typical operation status were investigated. The results indicated that the heating COP is about 4.3, and the cooling COP is about 3.5 in the actual operating conditions. These results could serve as a reference for designing or evaluating urban sewage source heat pump systems.

Appling urban untreated sewage as a cool and heat source of the heat pump air conditioning system is considered to be an effective way to develop urban sewage resource and a critical technique to serve the building energy system.Applications of technical difficulties are to solve the jam on sewage dirt to tube of heat exchanger and pipes. The multi-filter surface backwash technology is used to separate the suspended solids from the sewage and clean the dirt on the grille. By describing the filtration technique in the sewage source heat pump system to introduce the principle of operation and control process of the multi-filter surface backwash technology. By using in commercialese, the technology is proved to be feasible and reliability. These methods could serve as a reference for designing and application untreated sewage source heat pump systems.
