AbstractIn this study, a methodology for partial eigenstructure assignment (PEVA) is applied to dampen electromechanical oscillations in electrical multi-machine power systems. The approach is anchored in allocating a small number of undesirable eigenvalues, for example, which are poorly damped, preserving the other eigenvalues in the system - the so-called no-spillover spectrum. The new position of the selected eigenvalues is carried out based on the partial controllability analysis of the system, in order to minimize the control effort. Simulation examples using a system with 68 buses, 16 generators and five areas showed that the presented methodology is efficient in dampening the local and inter-area oscillation modes when compared to the classic power system stabilizers (PSS). The quality of the solution is illustrated through computer simulations, eigenvalues tables and mode-shapes.

The article presents issues related to the determination of the continuity quality of power supply (CQoPS) for hospital electrical devices. The model describing CQoPS takes into account power redundancy. The uncertainty modeling method based on the certainty factor (CF) of the hypothesis was used to establish the single-valued CQoPS factor. CQoPS modeling takes into account multidimensional quality models and physical stages of power. The quality models take into account seven dimensions that make up CQoPS (availability, appropriate amount, power supply reliability, power quality, assurance, responsiveness, security). The model of power stages includes five of these stages (power generation, delivery to recipient, distribution by recipient, delivery to device, power-consuming device). To date, when designing hospital power systems, the applied reliability indicators revealed limitations because they do not consider all the possible factors influencing the power continuity. Estimating the supply continuity quality with the use of the uncertainty modeling proposed in this article allows for taking into account all possible factors (not just reliability factors) that may affect supply continuity. The presented modeling offers an additional advantage, namely, it allows an expanded evaluation of the hospital supply system and a description using only one indicator. This fact renders the evaluation of the supply system possible for unqualified staff. At the end of the article, some examples of calculations and simulations are presented, thus showing that the applied methods give the expected results.

At optimization of development of electric networks of power systems voltage and a configuration of networks are chosen, the order of construction of objects of electric networks is established. The criterion of optimality in optimization is the sum of dynamic consolidated costs for all network elements. The decision must take into account the dynamics of development of power systems networks, requirements for reliability and quality of power supply, capacity constraints on power lines and transformer substations.

This book analyzes production and modernity in pre-revolutionary Mexico, focusing specifically on the relationship between labour, race, and the state in Chiapas during the Porfiriato. The thirty-five-year dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz (1876–1911) was a key period in the history of modern Mexico. Following upon fifty years of political turmoil and economic stagnation after independence, the regime oversaw an unprecedented period of growth and political modernization, which ended in the ‘first social revolution of the twentieth century’ (1910–20). In order to understand the twin processes of state formation and market development that took place in Mexico during these years, the book examines changing political, economic, and social relations in the southern state of Chiapas between Díaz's seizure of national power in the Tuxtepec rebellion of 1876 and the arrival of revolutionary troops in the state capital, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, in 1914. In this period Chiapas was subject to the same processes and tendencies that took place throughout the Mexican republic, which centred on rapid export-led development and growing political centralization. However, the state's distinct regional characteristics — notably its majority Mayan Indian population, polarized ethnic relations, strong historical and administrative links to Central America, and poor communications with the rest of Mexico — also contributed to the particular quality of modernization and modernity in Chiapas.

The light emitting diodes (LEDs) are ever more used, and their price is getting lower year on year. Although, exchanging traditional light sources for the LED lamps does not seem to be complicated, we need to remember to maintaining high–quality of light. One of the aspects we should be worry about is a light’s flickering. Due to the shape of the current–voltage characteristics of the LED diode and their dependence on temperature, the value of the luminous flux – but also the lifetime – depends to a large extent on the stability of the supply voltage. Therefore, correct power system should be a thermally stable current source. Unfortunately, the simple power systems, equipped with passive filters are often used as cheap commercial solutions. In those types of systems stability of the output voltage is heavily dependent on the load conditions. Passive filters – usually consisting of coils and capacitors – are placed in the output circuit. This paper presents research carried out to show of filter capacitance influence on flickering phenomenon, and practical light’s flickering measuring technique for the LED lamps.

The evolutionary integral dynamical models of storage systems are addressed. Such models are based on systems of weakly regular nonlinear Volterra integral equations with piecewise smooth kernels. These equations can have non-unique solutions that depend on free parameters. The objective of this paper was two-fold. First, the iterative numerical method based on the modified Newton–Kantorovich iterative process is proposed for a solution of the nonlinear systems of such weakly regular Volterra equations. Second, the proposed numerical method was tested both on synthetic examples and real world problems related to the dynamic analysis of microgrids with energy storage systems.
