This article presents answers to the questions on superresolution and structured illumination microscopy as raised in the editorial of a recent publication [K. Prakash et al. arXiv, 2102.13649, 2021]. The answers are based on my personal views on superresolution in light microscopy, supported by reasoning. Discussed are the definition of superresolution, Abbe’s resolution limit and the classification of superresolution methods into non-linear-, prior-knowledge- and near-field-based superresolution. A further focus is put on capabilities and technical aspects of present and future structured illumination microscopy (SIM) methods.

In state analysis of rolling bearings using collaborative representation theory, how to construct an excellent redundant dictionary to collaboratively represent the acquired normal or abnormal data has been being a significant issue. Thus, a new method for fault detection and classification of rolling bearings is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm mainly consists of three components. First, a wavelet transform is employed to extract features, which takes advantage of the observation that vibration signals under different conditions have similar frequency spectra. This similarity ensures that we can collaboratively represent any test sample by using training samples. Second, under the similarity assumption, a dictionary pair learning strategy is employed to build an overcomplete dictionary pair, which is used to realize an optimal representation of the vibration signal. Meanwhile, the sparse constraint is also taken into account during dictionary training to enhance the robustness of the classification. Finally, the learned dictionary combined with collaborative representation is used to intelligently perform pattern classification of rolling bearings. The effectiveness and superiority of the method are verified by applying the proposed algorithm on the simulated and real vibration signals. The results show that, for different fault categories generated from different fault size and motor loads, our method can rapidly and accurately identify the fault category to which the input sample belongs.

AbstractThis paper presents a new machine vision framework for the efficient examination and classification of surface textures on medium- and large-sized mold products, such as used for automobiles, TVs, and refrigerators. Existing techniques, which are based on the hands and eyes of skilled workers, are inconsistent and time-consuming. Although there are many types of precise surface inspection and measurement methods, most are difficult to apply at industrial sites or by finishing robots due to problems such as speed, setup limitations, and robustness. This paper proposes two techniques based on image processing that aims to automate surface inspection during an unmanned lapping process that is mainly employed to eliminate milling tool marks. First, both the shape of the reflected light and the intensity of the captured near-field contrast image right after the reflected specular are used to determine the machined surface state, and the presence of tool marks as the line light source scans counter-clockwise. Second, the photometric stereo technique is used to detect surface scratches through the normal map that recovers the surface. The proposed techniques show localized machined patterns and classify them with high accuracy.

Currently induction motors are widely used in industry due to strong construction, high efficiency, and cheap maintenance. Machine maintenance is needed to prolong the life of the induction motor. As studied, bearing faults may account for 42% -50% of all motor failures. In general it is due to manufacturing faults, lack of lubrication, and installation errors. Misalignment of motor is one of the installation errors. This paper is concerned to simulation of discrete wavelet transform for identifying misalignment in induction motor. Modelling of motor operation is introduced in this paper as normal operation and two variations of misalignment. For this task, haar and coiflet discrete wavelet transform in first level until fifth level is used to extract vibration signal of motor into high frequency of signal. Then, energy signal and other signal extraction gotten from high frequency signal is evaluated to analysis condition of motor. The results show that haar discrete wavelet transform at thirth level can identify normal motor  and misalignment motor conditions well

A novel intelligent method based on wavelet neural network (WNN) was proposed to identify the gear crack degradation in gearbox in this paper. The wavelet packet analysis (WPA) is applied to extract the fault feature of the vibration signal, which is collected by two acceleration sensors mounted on the gearbox along the vertical and horizontal direction. The back-propagation (BP) algorithm is studied and applied to optimize the scale and translation parameters of the Morlet wavelet function, the weight coefficients, threshold values in WNN structure. Four different gear crack damage levels under three different loads and three various motor speeds are presented to obtain the different gear fault modes and gear crack degradation in the experimental system. The results show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method by the identification and classification of the four gear modes and degradation.
