State estimation is one of the most important processes to perform a reliable monitoring and control of the steady-state operating condition of modern electric power systems; thus, it is currently a fundamental part in the development of research to enhance the monitoring and security of the smart grids operation. This important topic is taught in advanced courses of operation and control of power systems, for graduate and undergraduate power engineering students. However, the most used software packages for simulation and analysis of power systems by researchers, students, and educators have put little attention on the state estimation module. Due to this fact, this paper proposes an approach to develop the computational implementation of a practical educational tool for state estimation of electric power systems using the MATLAB optimization toolbox. In this proposal, the formulation of the state estimation problem consists of developing a general digital code to implement an objective function based on the weighted least squares method. While the lsqnonlin function of the MATLAB optimization toolbox solves the formulated state estimation problem. Simplifying both research and educational processes, this tool helps graduate and undergraduate students to improve learning, understanding, and the times of implementation and development of research in state estimation. Simulations of an equivalent model of the Mexican interconnected power system consisting of 190 buses and 46 machines are used to test and validate the proposal performance.

The textbook describes the main issues of the theory of relay protection and automation of electric power systems. The structure and functional purpose of protection devices and automation of power transmission lines of various configurations, synchronous generators, power transformers, electric motors and individual electrical installations are considered. For each of the types of protection of the above objects, the structure, the principle of operation, the order of selection of settings are given, the advantages and disadvantages are evaluated, indicating the scope of application. The manual includes material on complete devices based on semiconductor and microprocessor element bases. The progressive use of such devices (protection of the third and fourth generations) is appropriate and effective due to their significant advantages. Meets the requirements of the federal state educational standards of higher education of the latest generation. It is intended for students in the areas of training 13.03.02 "Electric power and electrical engineering" (profile "Power supply", discipline "Relay protection and automation of electric power systems") and 35.03.06 "Agroengineering" (profile "Power supply and electrical equipment of agricultural enterprises", discipline "Relay protection of electrical equipment of agricultural objects"), as well as for graduate students and specialists engaged in the field of electrification and automation of industrial and agrotechnical objects.

In this paper, a new topology of compensated AC regulated power supply (ACRPS) in electric power systems based on a high-frequency isolated transformer (HFIT) is proposed. In order to overcome the slow response and low accuracy of the existing ACRPS, the phase shift regulating control (PSRC) based on instantaneous value of voltage single closed loop is applied as well as the software phase locked loop (SPLL). The proposed ACRPS has been simulated in the case of the voltage fluctuation, harmonics and frequency shift with Matlab. The simulation results show that output voltage precision is controlled within 0.5% and total harmonic distribution (THD) can be limited to less than 1%. In a word, the feasibility of the proposed ACRPS is effectively verified.
