This review summarises developments in the determination of mycotoxins over a period between mid-2015 and mid-2016. Analytical methods to determine aflatoxins, Alternaria toxins, ergot alkaloids, fumonisins, ochratoxins, patulin, trichothecenes and zearalenone are covered in individual sections. Advances in proper sampling strategies are discussed in a dedicated section, as are methods used to analyse botanicals and spices and newly developed liquid chromatography mass spectrometry based multi-mycotoxin methods. This critical review aims to briefly discuss the most important recent developments and trends in mycotoxin determination as well as to address limitations of presented methodologies.

This paper is a critical review of the notion of consciousness-raising approach in the mainstream Applied Linguistics (AL) and Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL). It reviews the development of this approach from traditional grammarian perspectives to the recent developments in AL, and compares and contrasts this approach in AL with the notion of grammatical metaphor (GM) in SFL as a compatible resource for consciousness-raising. The paper concludes that SFL introduces new and developmental resources of consciousness at different times and spaces, which is subject to further linguistic investigations. It has also implications for the English language teaching and learning in EFL contexts.

Recent years (2014–2017) have seen an explosive growth in foreign language undergraduate programs in Chinese universities, apparently in response to China’s development needs. However, without a precise analysis of China’s foreign language needs, it is impossible to evaluate whether the recent developments in foreign language education will be able to meet the nation’s development needs. This article addresses this issue by calculating China’s foreign language needs through a holistic assessment with 14 indicators. The calculation, mainly based on the practical use of foreign languages and China’s international exchange requirements, identifies the top 10 foreign languages urgently needed by the country and demonstrates the different functions of these foreign languages. In light of China’s national foreign language needs, this article ends with a critical review of foreign language program development in recent years.

With recent developments in nanotechnology, nanocomposite adhesives offer numerous advantages compared to conventional adhesive materials. Moreover, with the emergence of commercial nanomaterials such as: Nanoclays (NCs), Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), Nanosilica (NS), Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS), Tungsten disulfide (WS2) Fullerenes and Nanotubes, and Graphene nanoparticles (GNPs), new potential routes have been opened to tailor adhesives in the nanoscale range. This update will review and analyze the unique fracture mechanisms and the resultant properties of various nanocomposite adhesives based on epoxies, polyurethanes, silicones, polyimides and acrylics containing: NCs, CNTs, NS, POSS, WS2 and GNPs and their current and potential applications.
