This book engages with new ways of understanding language that include other resources and practices and bring to the fore its messiness, unpredictability and interconnectedness. The chapters illustrate how a translingual and transcultural orientation to language can provide a point of entry to reimagining language education in the 21st century.

It is notoriously difficult to pick up new trends in language education and applied linguistics. It is a little bit like trying to distinguish a network of footpaths in misty conditions in order to find the one that leads to the mountain top. The view is always incomplete, the ones that seem to be pointing in the right direction might veer off behind the next boulder, and the largest path with most walkers might be interrupted by a landslide, forcing people to scatter and find alternative paths. There is inevitably a belief of researchers that the path they are on is trendy and original. Only years later will this belief be dis/confirmed when a tally can be made through citation indexes of the popularity of that particular path.

As learner burnout and disengagement affect the functioning and performance of college learners and can also influence future career-related well-being, they can be an issue for higher education organizations. Conversely, the discipline of language education has experienced an emotional turn, primarily triggered by Positive Psychology, and the scholars and students have been affected by various emotions. One of the seldom mentioned constructive emotions concerning learners’ disengagement and burnout is enjoyment in learning a foreign language, as has been demonstrated by literature reviews. It is important to note that this review helps scholastic institutions and policymakers in the scholastic community to take into consideration the role of constructive emotions, specifically enjoyment, and their constructive influence on language education in diminishing learners’ challenges in the learning process.

This study was a qualitative research method focused on a case study approach. This study aimed to find out the impact of pedagogical Twitter on improving the writing skills of English Language Education students at Universitas Pendidikan Muhammadiyah (UNIMUDA) Sorong. The sample of this study was 27 students of the English Language Education Study Program in the academic year 2020/2021. The sampling technique of this study used a purposive sampling technique. Invalidating the data, I used methodological and investigator triangulation. The instrument of this study had validated by expert judgment invalidating the data. The data of this study had collected through students writing text, tweets from Twitter, and interviews. After collecting the data, I used Brown’s rubric score to analyze students’ writing text, and tweets from their Twitter accounts as a pre-test and post-test. The interview item became the last instrumental in exploring the impact of Twitter on improving students writing skills. The analysis found that Twitter became an effective tool in enhancing students’ writing skills. The result showed from five categories of Brown’s assessing writing skills: students writing content of 83.33%, the organization was 81.48%, grammar structures of 85.19%, vocabulary had 82.41%, and mechanism had 100.00%. The result concluded that Twitter was more influential in improving students writing skills. The average of each category was an outstanding category. In short, Twitter became an effective pedagogical tool in helping students to improve their writing skills. In addition, Twitter has functioned as social media, but it has integrated into the teaching and learning process. Keywords: Twitter, Pedagogical Tool, Writing Skills.

This research was conducted based on the findings of college students. A phenomenon that is often found in students is that students still have low listening ability. This happened to students of the 2020 UNIPA Indonesian Language Education Study Program (PBI). The low value of listening ability in students was due to the lack of teaching materials for listening courses. To reduce or minimize the occurrence of language errors, lecturers use the Four-D Model or the 4D Model. Through the Four-D Model or the 4D Model, this study develops a product, namely the "Listening Research Procedure" module, using 4D steps, namely define, design, development, and dissemination. To analyze the data, this study used descriptive qualitative and quantitative. Based on data analysis, the process of making the Listening module is in accordance with the Thiagarajan development procedure known as Four-D Models (4D Model). The quality of the Listening module is viewed from the aspect of content feasibility, language eligibility, obtaining validation validation with good criteria. The results of the tests conducted by students showed that they had progressed, the average score of the students had complete information.

Foreign Language Enjoyment (FLE), as the most prevalent positive emotion predicting L2 learners' academic performance and well-being, and a critical factor contributing to the creation of positive micro-institutions (e.g., the classrooms), has received remarkable scholarly attention across the globe in the past eight years. Despite the fact that FLE is the most extensively investigated positive emotion and extant research has yielded rich and invaluable findings, it is far from being adequately studied, leaving vast lacunas to be explored. Therefore, this conceptual review article is written to familiarize language education researchers, practitioners, instructors, and learners with the current status of FLE research and its potential applications in L2 education, and suggest potential avenues for future research. To this aim, by making a diachronical and synchronical delineation of extant literature with regard to the conceptualization and theorization of FLE, and the methodology of FLE research, we argue that it is incumbent on researchers to make a new line of enquiry into the actualization of the ascertained affordances of FLE and its transmission in the microsystem of the classroom. Subsequently, by drawing on the broaden-and-build theory and the control-value theory, we highlight the significance of conducting FLE research with theoretical triangulation and methodological diversity to validate the data and minimum bias. Next, while highlighting the critical role of FLE in L2 education, we suggest some pedagogical implications with the hope of enlightening the practice of key stakeholders such as instructors, teacher educators, and teacher recruiters. In the end, the limitations of existing literature are explicated, and avenues for future studies on FLE in L2 education domain are put forward for interested researchers.

Abstract Although Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) is relied upon heavily in these disruptive times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, little is known about committed learners’ reactions to CALL as they actively voiced their questions and concerns during crisis-prompted remote learning. Employing a qualitative research method, findings reveal that their attitudes toward remote learning were ambivalent. While they viewed online tools as useful learning resources, they also expressed hesitation in adopting them. Meanwhile, they welcomed innovative ad hoc curriculum quickly developed by the instructor; however, the innovative curriculum was also viewed as less organized. These findings shed light on pedagogical implications for world language education in higher education and urge researchers to further investigate how remote language teaching and learning would affect committed students during the new normal times as foreign language enrollments continue to decline.

The rapid development of technology has increased the demand for information technology-based learning media, which is becoming increasingly necessary. E-Learning, also known as information technology-based learning media, is changing how education is delivered from a traditional to a digital format. At this time, the world is being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which is causing restrictions on activities and gatherings and causing difficulties in lectures. Electronic learning, the most widely used learning medium by all groups, is seen as a solution to keep the learning going in higher education, from primary to post-secondary levels of education. The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of E-Learning as a learning medium in the Indonesian language education department of universities following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis to implement Indonesian language education learning by taking samples from lecturers who teach Indonesian courses at the Manado State Islamic Institute and Manado State Christian Institute. According to the study's findings, using information technology as a medium of learning in Indonesian language education courses through e-learning is beneficial, particularly in light of the country's ban on face-to-face instruction. Then, the university should continue to develop e-learning to improve the ease and quality of the teaching and learning process, increase student learning effectiveness, and broaden its reach.
