The fluorescence sensing properties of a naphthalene-based acetohydrazide (3) were investigated. A highly selective “turn-on” response was obtained towards Al3+ ions, and this was used for real sample analysis and development of paper test strips.

A new fluorescence sensor for melamine was fabricated by combining a new fluorescent probe 7-(benzylamino)-9,9-dibutyl-9H-fluorene-2-carbaldehyde and AuNPs. This nanosensor has been applied to the determination of melamine in milk samples with satisfactory results.

A new “naked-eye” colorimetric and fluorometric chemosensor HAFPA synthesized form both 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 complexes with Zn2+ and only 1 : 1 complex with Cd2+ which can detect intracellular Zn2+ and Cd2+ in A549 cells.
