Abstract Objectives Previous studies have highlighted the need to offer targeted interventions to strengthen the wellbeing of family members in families with children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD). Interventions for this target group require research and development. The purpose of this study was to test a new family intervention: Dialogical Family Guidance (DFG). Methods Families of children with NDD were randomized into an intervention group that was delivered DFG and a comparison group provided with ordinary clinical treatment. The Family Functioning, Family Health and Social Support (FAFHES) and the DFG instrument were used to collect data at baseline and after 3 months. Repeated measure analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used as an analytical strategy. Results There was a significant within-subjects effect of time on family health and social support, indicating that family health and social support increased in both groups over time. There was also a significant between-subjects effect of group and interaction between time and group on social support, indicating that social support increased more in the intervention group than in the control group. Managing in daily life and the relationship between parents were associated with family functioning and family health. Conclusion DFG can strengthen parental experiences of social support. Managing in daily life, relationship between parents, practical guidance, psychoeducation, dialogue, and receiving positive feedback on parenting were strengthening factors during DFG. However, the results of this study must be considered as only preliminary, as they relate only to parental perceptions of the intervention effects. The consequence of childhood trauma may last for a long time. The purpose of the present study was to examine the effect of childhood trauma on general distress among Chinese adolescents and explore the potential mediating roles of social support and family functioning in the childhood trauma-general distress linkage. A total of 2139 valid questionnaires were collected from two high schools in southeast China. Participants were asked to complete the questionnaires measuring childhood trauma, social support, family functioning, and general distress. Pathway analysis was conducted by using SPSS AMOS 24.0 and PROCESS Macro for SPSS 3.5. Results showed that childhood trauma was positively associated with general distress among Chinese adolescents. Social support and family functioning independently and serially mediated the linkage of childhood trauma and general distress. These findings confirmed and complemented the ecological system theory of human development and the multisystem developmental framework for resilience. Furthermore, these findings indicated that the mental and emotional problems of adolescents who had childhood trauma were not merely issues of adolescents themselves, but concerns of the whole system and environment.

Background: The study was conducted to determine the relationship between self-stigmatization and perceived social support in caregivers of schizophrenia with patient. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was used. The study sample consisted of 84 participants who cared for schizophrenic patients registered in a community mental health center. In the data collection, the ‘Self-stigmatizing Scale for Families’ and ‘Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale’ were used. The data were analyzed via frequency, mean, standard deviation, Cronbach’s alpha analysis, linear regression, Pearson correlation analysis, independent samples t-test, and ANOVA test. Results: Self-stigmatization (32.48 ± 15.15) and perceived social support (44.36 ± 22.88) were found to be moderate in caregivers. Self-stigmatization was found to be higher in caregivers who do not work; have a spouse, mother, or father; have a disease; do not receive support from their family and have not received any education about schizophrenia ( p < .05). It was determined that, with increasing age, perceived social support decreases, and the perception of social support increases in caregivers who are high school graduates, working, having children, have no illness, and are educated about schizophrenia ( p < .05). It was determined that, as the level of perceived social support increases in caregivers, self-stigmatization decreases ( p < .05). Conclusion: It was determined that, as the perceived social support increases in caregivers, self-stigmatization decreases. We recommend providing informative support about schizophrenia, to increase hope and social-skill training, and to implement interventions that include caregivers in the fight against stigma.
