Most of the prior studies on power-split hybrid electric vehicle's (PS-HEV) design focused on the powertrain configuration optimization. Yet, depicting the selected configuration is highly required for further design steps, ultimately manufacturing. This paper proposes an automatic approach to generate all the feasible kinematic diagrams for a given configuration with a single planetary gear (PG) set. While the powertrain configuration, which is the output of prior studies, illustrates the connection of the powertrain components to the PG, the kinematic diagram is a schematic diagram depicting the connections and arrangements of the components. First, positioning diagrams, specifying the position of the components with respect to each other and to the PG, are used to find all the possible arrangements. Then, given that the positioning diagrams have a one-to-one relationship with the kinematic diagrams, the feasible kinematic diagrams are identified using a set of feasibility rules applicable to the positioning diagrams. Finally, few guidelines are introduced to select good kinematic diagrams that best suit the overall vehicle design. Various configurations were investigated, and three of them including Prius and Voltec first-generation single PG configurations are discussed. The study reveals that the kinematic diagrams that have been patented are only a subset of all the feasible kinematic diagrams, and that even some good kinematic diagrams with better manufacturability are identified using this methodology. Thus, this methodology guarantees the search of the entire design space and the selection of kinematic diagrams that best suit the desired vehicle.

In recent years, clutches have been used to create multi-mode power-split hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). Designing an HEV for optimal performance is computationally intensive because of the enormous design space. For single planetary gear (PG) or a double-PG hybrid powertrains, the design with the best fuel economy and launching performance can be identified through exhaustive search. Exhaustive search for a hybrid powertrain with 3PGs is computationally expensive, because of the astronomical number of design candidates. To address the design problem with extremely large design space, a rapid structure optimization method is proposed, which is based on combining different operating modes. A case study compares several different schemes against the results of the exhaustive search. The results show that the proposed mode combination method can identify almost 90% of the best designs. The proposed method shows great potential when applied to hybrid systems with three or more PGs.

AbstractIn Nova Scotia one leaf cluster with an adjoining 1 inch of twig taken from the inside of each of 10 apple trees replicated four times is an adequate sample unit to measure the density of the brown mite.The brown mite has one generation with a partial second in some orchards and one with a partial second and partial third in others. The first generation adults in the bivoltine and trivoltine populations lay summer eggs on the leaves and twigs, and diapause eggs on tin twigs. The second generation adults in the bivoltine populations lay only diapause eggs; in the trivoltine populations they lay both summer and diapause eggs. The adults of the third generation lay only diapause eggs.The brown mite is found on both the leaves and woody parts of the tree. In orchards with bivoltine populations the proportion of mites on leaves reached a peak of 80% by mid-July, but thereafter gradually decreased to 10% by the end of August. However, in orchards with trivoltine populations the proportion of mites on leaves reached a peak of 80 to 90% by mid-July, remained constant until mid-August, and thereafter decreased to approximately 40% by the end of August.The number of diapause eggs laid by adults of each generation in both the bivoltine and trivoltine populations varies widely. The eggs are deposited on the trunk as well as on the branches, with the heaviest deposition in the central area of the tree. The diapause eggs laid by adults of the first generation are the last to hatch and those laid by the third generation are the first to hatch the following spring.The factors responsible for the differences in the number of generations and in the number of diapause eggs laid are unknown.

The pharmacological treatments for depression include antidepressants and adjunctive agents. Most of the newer antidepressants (e.g. selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), serotonin noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), other agents) are first-line medications owing to improved safety and tolerability over first-generation medications (e.g. tricyclic antidepressants, monoamine oxidase inhibitors). Selection of an antidepressant must be personalized to an individual patient and must consider factors including efficacy, side-effect profile, safety, specific symptoms, comorbid conditions, concurrent medications, simplicity of use, and cost. Switching antidepressants must take into account factors such as side effects, discontinuation effects, potential drug interactions, and rapidity of switch. Maintenance treatment (6 months to 2 years or longer, depending on individual risk factors) is recommended for all patients treated with antidepressants.

Artificial neural network surrogate modeling with its economic computational consumption and accurate generalization capabilities offers a feasible approach to aerodynamic design in the field of rapid investigation of design space and optimal solution searching. This paper reviews the basic principle of artificial neural network surrogate modeling in terms of data treatment and configuration setup. A discussion of artificial neural network surrogate modeling is held on different objectives in aerodynamic design applications, various patterns of realization via cutting-edge data technique in numerous optimizations, selection of network topology and types, and other measures for improving modeling. Then, new frontiers of modern artificial neural network surrogate modeling are reviewed with regard to exploiting the hidden information for bringing new perspectives to optimization by exploring new data form and patterns, e.g. quick provision of candidates of better aerodynamic performance via accumulated database instead of random seeding, and envisions of more physical understanding being injected to the data manipulation.

Graph-based modeling of planetary gears was applied in the presented research work for their synthesis. The tailored Hsu and contour graphs were used. Graphs encode the structure (layout) of a planetary gear and upon them - the systems of equations can be generated. These systems enable determination of rotational velocities of planetary gear elements. The method is algorithmic and simple. It allows for an easy comparison of different design solutions and selection of the most appropriate one. The list of the possible modes of operation for an exemplary planetary gear is also provided in the paper.

The power-split gear mechanisms is widely applied in power transmission because of the advantages of compact design, lighter weight and high power density. The load sharing and the load distribution are the important performance issues while designing the power split mechanisms. The paper propose a computerized approach based on the influence coefficient method for loaded tooth contact analysis of such the gear transmission. Not only the load sharing of the multiple contact tooth pairs and the loaded transmission errors, but also the distributed contact stresses and the corresponding contact patterns on all the engaged tooth flanks can be calculated by using the proposed LTCA approach. Some analysis results are also discussed with a study case of the first planetary stage of a compound cycloid planetary gear drive.
