ABSTRACT Listeria monocytogenes is an opportunistic invasive foodborne pathogen. Here, we performed whole-genome sequencing of L. monocytogenes strain F4244 (serotype 4b) using Illumina sequencing. The sequence showed 94.5% identity with strain F2365, serotype 4b, and 90.6% with EGD-e, serotype 1/2a.

A fast-growing Mycobacterium species was cultured from draining, purulent lesions on the caudal abdomen of a 12-year-old male domestic long-haired cat. Whole-genome sequencing identified the organism as Mycobacterium porcinum.

ABSTRACT Whole-genome sequencing of Acinetobacter sp. strain NCu2D-2, isolated from the trachea of a mouse, revealed the presence of a plasmid of 309,964 bp with little overall similarity to known plasmids and enriched in insertion sequences (ISs) closely related to IS elements known from the nosocomial pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii.

ABSTRACT Streptococcus tigurinus was recently described as a novel species, and some strains are highly virulent. We detected S. tigurinus in infected tissue sampled by necropsy. In order to characterize and confirm the virulence of this species, whole-genome sequencing of the pure cultured bacterium was performed. We found that the strain has specific and unique genetic elements contained in highly virulent strains of S. tigurinus.

Bacillus velezensis UTB96 was isolated from soil based on its antifungal activity. Whole-genome sequencing of strain UTB96 provided further information about its secondary metabolite gene clusters. Compared to the well-known strain FZB42, UTB96 lacks an IS3 element and a type I restriction endonuclease.

This report describes the draft genome sequence of Weissella viridescens UCO-SMC3, isolated from Helix aspersa Müller slime. The reads were generated by a whole-genome sequencing (WGS) strategy on an Illumina MiSeq sequencer and were assembled into contigs with a total estimated size of 1,612,814 bp.

Although isolation of the bacteriophages (phages) specific to Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) is increasing, the number of those specific to STEC non-O157 strains, instead of STEC O157, with whole-genome sequencing characterization is relatively low. Here, we announce the complete genome sequence of a T7-like lytic phage against STEC O45.

ABSTRACT The whole-genome sequence of Bacillus velezensis strain SB1216, isolated from the Great Salt Plains of Oklahoma, showed the presence of a 3,814,720-bp circular chromosome and no plasmids. The presence of a novel 870-bp extracellular RNase gene is predicted to be responsible for this strain’s antitumor activity.

Whole-genome sequencing of Mycoplasma mucosicanis type strain 1642 was performed to support efforts to better understand the clinical significance of Mycoplasma infection in canine health. The availability of this sequence will also further the development of highly specific diagnostic tests.

ABSTRACT Escherichia coli is one of the common inhabitants of the mammalian gastrointestinal track. We isolated a strain from an ob/ob mouse and performed whole-genome sequencing, which yielded a chromosome of ~5.1 Mb and three plasmids of ~160 kb, ~6 kb, and ~4 kb.
