The tin nucleophile [SnB11H11]2– reacts with the gold cluster [Au9(PPh3)8][NO3]3 under formation of the tin–gold complex [Au8(PPh3)7(SnB11H11)] (1). In reaction with four equivalents of the heteroborate a mixed valence tetrahedral gold cluster [Au4(PPh3)4(SnB11H11)2]2– with two edge bridging tin ligands was isolated. The reaction products were characterized by elemental analysis, NMR spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray crystallography.

1:1 and 1:2 lead(II) complexes with 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (Dmphen), {[Pb(Dmphen)(NO3)n] and [Pb(Dmphen)2(ClO4)2]} have been synthesized and characterized by CHN elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and 207Pb NMR spectroscopy. The structure of these complexes was confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The single crystal X-ray data of [Pb(Dmphen)(NO3)n] show the complex to be polymeric and the Pb atom to have an unsymmetrical eight-coordinate geometry, the coordination being holodirected, whereas the [Pb(Dmphen)2(ClO4)2] complex is monomeric and the Pb atom has an unsymmetrical eight-coordinate geometry with the coordination hemidirected.

The reaction of (C6F5)2BCl with 8-lithio-N,N-dimethyl-1-naphthylamine (1) afforded the fivemembered ring system 8-bis(pentafluorophenyl)boryl-N,N-dimethyl-1-naphthylamine (2) with an intramolecular dative B-N bond. The compound was characterised by elemental analysis, NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Two new ZnII(phen)2 complexes with trichloroacetate and acetate anions, [Zn(phen)2(CCl3COO)- (H2O)](ClO4) and [Zn(phen)2(CH3COO)](ClO4), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR spectroscopy. The single crystal X-ray data of these compounds show the Zn atoms to have six-coordinate geometry. From IR spectra and X-ray crystallography it is established that the coordination of the COO− group is different for trichloroacetate and acetate. The former acts as a monodentate whereas the latter acts as a bidentate ligand.

The compound 2-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)thiazolo[4,5-b]pyridine (1) was synthesized with a yield of 71% by the reaction of 1-(thiazolo[4,5-b]pyridine-2-yl)hydrazine and acetylacetone. The structure was characterized by a single-crystal X-ray structure determination as well as 1H and 13C{1H} NMR spectroscopy. X-ray crystallography on 1 confirms the molecule consists of a pyridine–thiazole moiety and the pyrazole ring, and all non-hydrogen atoms are planar.

The title compound, 1-[N-methyl-N-(phenyl)amino]-3-(4-methylphenyl)thiourea (1), was synthesized by the reaction of 1-methyl-1-phenyl hydrazine and 4-tolyl isothiocyanate, and was characterized by spectroscopy (1H and 13C{1H} NMR, IR, and UV), elemental analysis as well as by single crystal X-ray crystallography. In the solid state, the molecule exists as the thioamide tautomer and features an anti-disposition of the thioamide–N–H atoms; an intramolecular N–H⋯N hydrogen bond is noted. The molecular conformation resembles that of the letter L. In the molecular packing, thioamide-N1–H⋯S1(thione) hydrogen bonds lead to centrosymmetric eight-membered {⋯HNCS}2 synthons. The dimers are assembled into a supramolecular layer in the bc-plane by phenyl- and methyl-C–H⋯π(phenyl) interactions.

Diethyl 2,2´-thiocarbonyl-bis(azanediyl)dibenzoate was synthesized from the reaction of ethyl anthranilate with thiophosgene. Its treatment with sodium ethoxide in ethanol at room temperature gave ethyl 2-(4-oxo-2-thioxo-1,2-dihydroquinazolin-3(4H)-yl) benzoate, whereas in the presence of ethyl nitroacetate and under the same reaction conditions, the corresponding bis(quinazolin)disulfide was formed. Its structure was confirmed by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray structure determination.

The use of 1H NMR spectroscopy, in tandem with X-ray crystallography, has cast light on the conformation of the 1,6-disulfide-bridged derivatives of d-gluco-, d-manno-, d-allo-, d-galacto-, and d-talo-pyranose. A similar investigation was performed on the thiosulfinate derived from the d-gluco disulfide. Single-crystal X-ray structure determinations are reported for (1S,5S,6S,7S,8R)-6,7,8-tribenzoyloxy-9-oxa-2,3-dithiabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane, (1S,5S,6S,7R,8R)-6,7,8-tribenzoyloxy-9-oxa-2,3-dithiabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane, and (1S,2S,5S,6S,7S,8R)-6,7,8-triacetoxy-9-oxa-2,3-dithiabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane 2-oxide.

The treatment of salts of the B10H102- anion with the commercially available N-fluoro reagent 1-chloromethyl-4-fluoro-1,4-diazoniabicyclo[2.2.2]octane bis(tetrafluoroborate) (F-TEDA) resulted in the formation of fluorinated derivatives of this ten-vertex borane dianion. The effects of changing the solvent, temperature, and reagent stoichiometry were studied. The derivatives 1-B10H9F2-, 2-B10H9F2-, 1,2-B10H8F22-, 1,6-B10H8F22-, 1,10-B10H8F22-, and 1,2,10-B10H7F32- were examined by a combination of 11B and 19F NMR spectroscopy and by IR spectroscopy. The salt [Ph4P]2[1,10-B10H8F2] . 3 CH2Cl2 was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography: C51H48B10Cl6F2P2, monoclinic, C2/c, a = 13.8134(9), b = 19.141(1), c = 21.136(1) Å, β = 91.546(1)°, Z = 4, T = -100 °C, R = 0.077.

The reaction of closo-B10H102− with PtCl2(PPh3)2 in the presence of MeCOSH afforded the title platinaborane nido-7,7-(PPh3)2-7-PtB10H11-11-OC(O)Me (1), which has been characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy, MS, elemental analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In contrast to the known products having exo-polyhedral Pt-S-C-O-B ring(s) from the same reaction with Ph- COSH, compound 1 has a B-acetoxy group on the open PtB4 face of the nido-PtB10 cluster. The structure of 1 features both intramolecular/intermolecular C-H· · ·O hydrogen bonds and intramolecular C-H· · ·H-B dihydrogen bonds, which link the molecules into a 1-D chain structure.
