Diethyl 2,2´-thiocarbonyl-bis(azanediyl)dibenzoate was synthesized from the reaction of ethyl anthranilate with thiophosgene. Its treatment with sodium ethoxide in ethanol at room temperature gave ethyl 2-(4-oxo-2-thioxo-1,2-dihydroquinazolin-3(4H)-yl) benzoate, whereas in the presence of ethyl nitroacetate and under the same reaction conditions, the corresponding bis(quinazolin)disulfide was formed. Its structure was confirmed by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray structure determination.

Abstract Ethyl 5-oxo-3-(4-toluidino)-2,5-dihydro-4-isoxazolecarboxylate was prepared from the reaction of diethyl 2-(4-toluidinocarbothioyl)malonate with hydroxylamine. Its reaction with 2- chlorobenzoxazole gave the corresponding N-substituted isoxazolone. The structure of the final product 4 was confirmed by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, and by X-ray single crystal structure determination.

A one-pot synthesis of sterically congested electron-poor N-vinyl pyrazoles in fairly good yields by the reaction of ethyl 3-phenyl-2-propynoate, pyrazoles and triphenylphosphine is reported. The structures of these compounds were confirmed by IR, 1H, and 13C NMR spectroscopy, and single crystal X-ray structure determination. The structural analysis of the products indicated that the reaction is completely regio- and stereoselective.

A one-pot synthesis of sterically congested N-vinyl imides in fairly high yields by the reaction of ethyl 3-phenyl-2-propynoate, imides and triphenylphosphine is reported. The structures of these compounds were confirmed by IR, 1H, and 13C NMR spectroscopy, and by a single crystal X-ray structure determination. The structural analysis of the products indicated that the reaction is regioand stereoselective

Reaction of 2-aminobenzoic acid with (N-isocyanimino)triphenylphosphorane proceeds smoothly at r. t. to afford 2-(1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)aniline in high yield. The structure of this compound was confirmed by IR, 1H, and 13C NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and single crystal X-ray structure determination. The X-ray structural analysis of the product indicated that its aromatic rings are approximately co-planar

The reduction of a partially deprotonated bishydroxylamine complex {(tBu2Ga)2[cyclo-ON(Me)(CH2)2- (Me)NO][HON(Me)(CH2)2(Me)(H)NO]} with a reagent composed of titanium tetrachloride and methyllithium leads to the reduction of one of the N-O groups to an amine function affording the salt {(tBu2Ga)[cyclo- ON(H)(Me)(CH2)2NHMe]}+ {tBu2GaCl2}−. This has been characterised by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, by elemental analysis and by single crystal X-ray diffraction, showing the neutral amine/hydroxylamine ligand to be present in its tautomeric aminoxide form. The molecules form hexameric cyclic aggregates by N-H···Cl hydrogen bonds.

1:1 and 1:2 lead(II) complexes with 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (Dmphen), {[Pb(Dmphen)(NO3)n] and [Pb(Dmphen)2(ClO4)2]} have been synthesized and characterized by CHN elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and 207Pb NMR spectroscopy. The structure of these complexes was confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The single crystal X-ray data of [Pb(Dmphen)(NO3)n] show the complex to be polymeric and the Pb atom to have an unsymmetrical eight-coordinate geometry, the coordination being holodirected, whereas the [Pb(Dmphen)2(ClO4)2] complex is monomeric and the Pb atom has an unsymmetrical eight-coordinate geometry with the coordination hemidirected.

Bis(2,6-dimethoxyphenyl)nitramine (1) was found to be one of the products of the reaction of nitryl chloride, NO2Cl with 2,6-dimethoxyphenyl lithium. 1 was characterized through its NO2 vibrations in the IR spectrum, vas = 1540 cm-1 and vs = 1290 cm-1, and its identity was confirmed by its elemental analysis, 1H and 13C NMR data, and its mass spectrum. According to a single crystal X-ray structure determination, 1 is nearly planar about the central Ν—Ν bond; the Ν—Ν bond length is 136.3 pm. In addition, two further products of the reaction were also characterized, 1-chloro-2,6-dimethoxybenzene (2) and 2,4-dichloro-1,5-dimethoxybenzene (3).

The reaction of (C6F5)2BCl with 8-lithio-N,N-dimethyl-1-naphthylamine (1) afforded the fivemembered ring system 8-bis(pentafluorophenyl)boryl-N,N-dimethyl-1-naphthylamine (2) with an intramolecular dative B-N bond. The compound was characterised by elemental analysis, NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Two new ZnII(phen)2 complexes with trichloroacetate and acetate anions, [Zn(phen)2(CCl3COO)- (H2O)](ClO4) and [Zn(phen)2(CH3COO)](ClO4), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR spectroscopy. The single crystal X-ray data of these compounds show the Zn atoms to have six-coordinate geometry. From IR spectra and X-ray crystallography it is established that the coordination of the COO− group is different for trichloroacetate and acetate. The former acts as a monodentate whereas the latter acts as a bidentate ligand.

Three new copper(II) complexes, [Cu(LH)2]Br2 (1), [Cu(LH)2]NCS2 (2), and [Cu(LH)2](NO3)2 (3), where LH is the zwitterionic form of 2-bromo-6-((2-(isopropylamino)ethylimino)methyl)phenol (HL), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and UV-vis spectroscopy. The structures of the complexes were further confirmed by single crystal X-ray structure determination. All compounds are mononuclear copper(II) complexes. The Cu atoms in the complexes are coordinated by two imino N and two phenolate O atoms from two LH ligands, forming square planar coordination. The compounds were assayed for their antimicrobial activities.
