Two ferrocenyl-substituted 1,3,4-oxadiazoles, 2-ferrocenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole (1) and 2,5-diferrocenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole (2), have been prepared from the corresponding hydrazides, (ferrocenecarbonyl)hydrazine (3) and 1,2-bis(ferrocenecarbonyl)hydrazine (4), and characterized by conventional spectroscopic methods (IR, NMR, MS) and elemental analyses. The solid-state structures of 1, 2 and 4 have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The redox behavior of 1 and 2 was studied by electrochemical methods. Compound 1 underwent a reversible one-electron oxidation attributed to the ferrocene/ ferrocenium couple (Eo′ = +0.28 V vs ferrocene/ferrocenium). On the other hand, compound 2 showed two closely separated anodic waves corresponding to two consecutive redox changes, indicating some degree of electronic communication between the ferrocenyl moieties in positions 2 and 5 at the 1,3,4-oxadiazole ring.

meso–meso Directly-linked trimeric and pentameric porphyrin–hexaphyrin hybrid arrays 5 and 6 comprising of electron-deficient porphyrin units were prepared by cross-condensation of monomeric and dimeric electron-deficient meso-formyl porphyrins with a tripyrrane. The solid-state structures of 5 and 6 have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The latter is the largest crystal structure of meso–meso linked multiporphyrinic array analogues reported to date.

Dianionic N,N-chelating ligands play a crucial role in coordination chemistry, but reports on related complexes remain limited to certain types of ligands. In here, the reactions of two diprotic ligands, i.e., a biguanide and a carbothiamide, with trimethylaluminium, are reported, which give rise to mono- and dinuclear aluminium(III) complexes. In addition, single deprotonation of the diprotic biguanide using potassium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide gives rise to a one-dimensional coordination polymer. All complexes have been fully characterized, and their solid-state structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

The patterns adopted in the solid state structures of over 300 cyclic NH carboximides as determined by X-ray diffraction are reviewed. While the analysis shows that the majority of these fit into just a few common patterns, a significant number exhibit more complex and interesting patterns involving the other functional groups present in addition to the cyclic imide.

Dinuclear rhodium(I) η2:η2-cycloocta-1,5-diene (series a) and η2:η2-norborna-2,5-diene (series b) complexes with μ-RCOO- ligands, where R is linear C21H43 (complexes 1a, 1b), CH2CMe3 (2a, 2b), 1-adamantyl (3a, 3b) and benzyl (4a, 4b), have been prepared and characterized by spectroscopic methods. Structures of complexes 2b, 3a and 4a were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. Complexes prepared show low to moderate catalytic activity in polymerization of phenylacetylene in THF giving high-cis-transoid polymers, but they show only oligomerization activity in dichloromethane.

The reaction of dimethylcadmium with alcohols R-OH in equimolar ratio leads to the formation of tetrameric methylcadmium alkoxides with molecular formula [(MeCd)4 (OR)4] [R = Me (1), Et (2) and iPr (3)]. These compounds have been characterised by 1H, 13C NMR and IR spectroscopy, by mass spectrometry, elemental analyses and by X-ray crystallography (for 2 and 3). The solid state structures show distorted cubane-type aggregates with Cd4O4 cores. The structural aspects and the spectroscopic characterisations of these compounds are discussed.

AbstractTwo new copper(II) complexes, {[Cu(bipmo)(npa)]}n (1) and {[Cu(bipmo)(pa)]}n (2) (bipmo=bis(4-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl)methanone), were synthesized by solvothermal methods and structurally characterized by elemental analyses, infrared spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The results from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data indicate that the solid state structures of 1 and 2 consist of neutral metal aromatic carboxylate layers, which are pillared by the weak interactions to generate 3D architectures. The topological structures of 1 and 2 are uninodal nets based on 4-connected nodes with the Schläfli symbol of (65·8).

Abstract The 2,2,5,5-tetraorganyl-1,4-dioxa-2,5-disilacyclohexanes 2a-2c were prepared by condensation of the corresponding (hydroxymethyl)diorganylsilanes 1 a-1 c. The constitution of the heterocycles was confirmed by elemental analyses, cryoscopic measurements, mass spectrometry, and NMR-spectroscopic (1H, 13C) investigations. The molecular structure of 2 b was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis.
