We report here on the calculation of dielectronic recombination resonance strengths for high-lying K-shell resonance states of He-, Li-, and Be-like krypton ions. For proper analysis of spectral data explicit calculations of satellite intensity factors are carried out for all possible intermediate resonance states with n = 2–10. Our calculations successfully predict the details of X-ray emission spectra of highly charged krypton ions interacting with electron beams.PACS Nos.: 32.30.Rj, 32.70.Cs, 32.80.Rm, 34.79.+e

Azuma et al. observed planar defects in a high pressure synthesized infinitelayer compound (i.e. ACuO2 (A=cation)), which exhibits superconductivity at ~110 K. It was proposed that the defects are cation deficient and that the superconductivity in this material is related to the planar defects. In this report, we present quantitative analysis of the planar defects utilizing nanometer probe xray microanalysis, high resolution electron microscopy, and image simulation to determine the chemical composition and atomic structure of the planar defects. We propose an atomic structure model for the planar defects.Infinite-layer samples with the nominal chemical formula, (Sr1-xCax)yCuO2 (x=0.3; y=0.9,1.0,1.1), were prepared using solid state synthesized low pressure forms of (Sr1-xCax)CuO2 with additions of CuO or (Sr1-xCax)2CuO3, followed by a high pressure treatment.Quantitative x-ray microanalysis, with a 1 nm probe, was performed using a cold field emission gun TEM (Hitachi HF-2000) equipped with an Oxford Pentafet thin-window x-ray detector. The probe was positioned on the planar defects, which has a 0.74 nm width, and x-ray emission spectra from the defects were compared with those obtained from vicinity regions.

Ultrasoft X-ray emission spectra (USXES) and X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectra with the use of synchrotron radiation in the range of P L2,3-edges were obtained for the first time for nanostructures with InP quantum dots grown on GaAs 〈100〉 substrates by vapor-phase epitaxy from metal–organic compounds. These spectra represent local partial density of states in the valence and conduction bands. The additional XANES peak is detected; its intensity depends on the number of monolayers forming quantum dots. Assumptions are made on the band-to-band origin of luminescence spectra in the studied nanostructures.

To ascertain whether fluorescence quenching is best studied with the use of excitation or emission spectra, and to expand our existing PAH spectral data file, we have recorded excitation spectra of benzo[b]perylene, dibenzo[hi,wx]heptacene, tetrabenzo[de,hi,mn,qr]naphthacene, perylene, benzo[a]fluoranthene, benzo[def]indeno[1,2,3hi]chrysene, naphtho[2,1a]fluoranthene, naphtho[2,3b]fluoranthene, benzo[k]fluoranthene, 2-azapyrene, naphtho[8,1,2hij]pyreno[9,10,1def]phthalazine, indeno[1,-2,3ij]isoquinoline, benzo(lmn][3,8]phenanthroline, and 7-methyldibenzo(b,def]chrysene at various nitromethane concentrations. Results of these measurements verify our earlier observations concerning the nitromethane selective quenching rule and further illustrate the importance of considering inner-filtering artifacts in quenching studies.

AbstractThe 2D and 3D Doppler tomograms of X-ray binary system Cyg X-1 (V1357 Cyg) were reconstructed from spectral data for the line HeII 4686Å obtained with 2-m telescope of the Peak Terskol Observatory (Russia) and 2.1-m telescope of the Mexican National Observatory in June, 2007. Information about gas motions outside the orbital plane, using all of the three velocity components Vx, Vy, Vz, was obtained for the first time. The tomographic reconstruction was carried out for the system inclination angle of 45°. The equal resolution (50 × 50 × 50 km/s) is realized in this case, in the orbital plane (Vx, Vy) and also in the perpendicular direction Vz. The checkout tomograms were realized also for the inclination angle of 40° because of the angle uncertainty. Two versions of the result showed no qualitative discrepancy. Details of the structures revealed by the 3D Doppler tomogram were analyzed.
