The gauge symmetry for spin-1/2 field proposed in the previous paper by using second rank tensor-spinors is re-investigated. The constraints which are essential for eliminating higher spin components are re-examined and reformulated by using a traceless antisymmetric tensor-spinor Lagrange multiplier in a gauge-invariant way. The gauge symmetry is compatible with the space-time with (anti)self-dual Riemann curvatures.

The presence of a constant background antisymmetric tensor for open strings or D-branes forces the space-time coordinates to be noncommutative. An immediate consequence of this is that all fields get complexified. By applying this idea to gravity one discovers that the metric becomes complex. Complex gravity is constructed by gauging the symmetry U(1, D-1). The resulting action gives one specific form of nonsymmetric gravity. In contrast to other theories of nonsymmetric gravity the action is both unique and gauge invariant. It is argued that for this theory to be consistent one must prove the existence of generalized diffeomorphism invariance. The results are easily generalized to noncommutative spaces.

The explicit form of linearized gauge invariant interactions of scalar and general higher even spin fields in the AdSD space is obtained. In the case of general spin-ℓ a generalized "Weyl" transformation is proposed and the corresponding "Weyl" invariant action is constructed. In both cases the invariant actions of the interacting higher even spin gauge field and the scalar field include the whole tower of invariant actions for couplings of the same scalar with all gauge fields of smaller even spin. For the particular value of ℓ = 4, all results are in exact agreement with Ref. 1.

We apply the BRST approach, previously developed for higher spin field theories, to gauge-invariant Lagrangian construction for antisymmetric massive and massless bosonic fields in arbitrary d-dimensional curved space. The obtained theories are reducible gauge models both in massless and massive cases and the order of reducibility grows with the value of the rank of the antisymmetric field. In both cases the Lagrangians contain the sets of auxiliary fields and possess more rich gauge symmetry in comparison with standard Lagrangian formulation for the antisymmetric fields. This serves as an additional demonstration of universality of the BRST approach for Lagrangian constructions in various field models.

A polynomial basis for parity-even three-point amplitudes of higher-spin massless fermions and bosons are derived in four-dimensional space–time from first principles. This basis can be used to construct three-point amplitudes of polarizations of any rank. The results are presented using polarization tensors and tensor-spinors, which is convenient when they are applied to Lagrangian construction.

Further investigation on a bosonic string model with second class constraints is carried out. The physical space of the model is built up. It is shown, using analogy with the point particle with additional space-time gauge symmetry, that there is only one physical state in the model corresponding to an antisymmetric second rank tensor.

In D-dimensional gauge theory with a kinetic term based on p-form tensor gauge field, we introduce a gauge-invariant operator associated with the composite form from an electric (p - 1)-brane and a magnetic (q - 1)-brane in D = p + q + 1 space–time dimensions. By evaluating the partition function of this operator, we show that the expectation value of this operator gives rise to the topological contributions identical to those in gauge theory with a topological Chern–Simons BF term.

Abstract Within the framework of $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 1 anti-de Sitter (AdS) supersymmetry in four dimensions, we derive superspin projection operators (or superprojectors). For a tensor superfield $$ {\mathfrak{V}}_{\alpha (m)\overset{\cdot }{\alpha }(n)}:= {\mathfrak{V}}_{\left(\alpha 1\dots \alpha m\right)\left({\overset{\cdot }{\alpha}}_1\dots {\overset{\cdot }{\alpha}}_n\right)} $$ V α m α ⋅ n ≔ V α 1 … αm α ⋅ 1 … α ⋅ n on AdS superspace, with m and n non-negative integers, the corresponding superprojector turns $$ {\mathfrak{V}}_{\alpha (m)\overset{\cdot }{\alpha }(n)} $$ V α m α ⋅ n into a multiplet with the properties of a conserved conformal supercurrent. It is demonstrated that the poles of such superprojectors correspond to (partially) massless multiplets, and the associated gauge transformations are derived. We give a systematic discussion of how to realise the unitary and the partially massless representations of the $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 1 AdS4 superalgebra $$ \mathfrak{osp} $$ osp (1|4) in terms of on-shell superfields. As an example, we present an off-shell model for the massive gravitino multiplet in AdS4. We also prove that the gauge-invariant actions for superconformal higher-spin multiplets factorise into products of minimal second-order differential operators.

I present the reduction of phase space of the theory of an antisymmetric tensor potential coupled to an Abelian gauge field, using Dirac's procedure. Duality transformations on the reduced phase space are also discussed.

The supersymmetric extensions of anti-symmetric tensor gauge theories and their associated tensor gauge symmetry transformations are constructed. The classical equivalence between such supersymmetric tensor gauge theories and supersymmetric non-linear sigma models is established. The global symmetry of the supersymmetric tensor gauge theory is gauged and the locally invariant action is obtained. The supercurrent on the Kähler manifold is found in terms of the supersymmetric tensor gauge field.
