One of the experimental programs at the TOF spectrometer located at the COSY-accelerator (Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany) is the study of ω-meson production in proton proton collisions (pp → ppω). Recently, a measurement was performed with a polarized beam at an excess energy of ∊ = 129 MeV , which offers the possibility to analyze polarization observables of this reaction channel for the first time. The analyzing power (Ay) of the pp → ppω-reaction was determined to be compatible with zero.

A brief experimental overview on the close-to-threshold η meson production in proton-proton interactions is presented and the available observables in measurements with unpolarized and polarized beam and target are discussed.

Differential cross sections for η production in proton-proton collisions at 40 and 72 MeV above threshold show that higher partial waves are necessary to describe the reaction. A simple model assuming constant production amplitudes and including most partial waves up to two units of angular momentum reproduces the data rather well, and also describes the invariant mass distributions found at 15.5 MeV excess energy.

The production of η mesons at an excess energy of 72 MeV has been studied in the reaction pp → pp(η)γγ. It is shown that a simple model with Pp final states included reproduces observed differential distributions better than the same model restricted to Ss , Sd and Ds final states. The strong influence of the Pp states could be taken as an indication of ρ dominance within an one boson exchange model for the excitation of N *(1535).

In this paper, we investigate the next-to-leading order contribution of the higher-twist Feynman diagrams to the large-pT inclusive pion production cross-section in proton–proton collisions and present the general formulae for the higher-twist differential cross-sections in the case of the running coupling and frozen coupling approaches. We compared the resummed next-to-leading order higher-twist cross-sections with the ones obtained in the framework of the frozen coupling approach and leading-twist cross-section. The structure of infrared renormalon singularities of the higher-twist subprocess cross-section and its resummed expression (the Borel sum) are found. It is shown that the resummed result depends on the choice of the meson wave functions used in the calculations. We discuss the phenomenological consequences of possible higher-twist contributions to the meson production in proton–proton collisions in next-to-leading order at RHIC.
