Method to evaluate systematic uncertainties due to magnet misalignments in Electric Dipole Moment measurements using a storage ring

Various scenarios of measurements of Electric Dipole Moment (EDM) of light hadrons with the use of a storage ring were proposed. Most of these methods are based on the measurement of the vertical spin component for an initially horizontal polarized beam. Since the expected EDM effect is very small, one has to payattention to various sources of systematic uncertainties. One of the most important sources are misalignments of the magnets forming the storage ring lattice, which may produce an effect that mimics an EDM. This false signal could be much larger than the expected EDM signal, even for very small magnet misalignments. This paper describes a novel method for the determination of the contribution of magnets misalignments to the expected EDM signal. It is shown that the magnitude of this effect could be estimated via a Fourier analysis of the time-dependent vertical polarization. This could be achieved by sampling the vertical polarization with a frequency larger than the beam revolution frequency, which corresponds to polarization measurements in at least two positions in the storage ring. The presented method can be applied to any scenario proposed for EDM measurements using a storage ring.

Broadband unidirectional scattering in the transverse direction and angular radiation realized by using a silicon hollow nanodisk under a radially polarized beam

In recent years, directional scattering has been one of the most active research hotspots in the field of nanophotonics. Herein, we study the directional scattering properties of a silicon hollow nanodisk illuminated by a tightly focused radially polarized beam. The induced strong longitudinal total electric dipole interferes with transverse magnetic dipole to achieve a highly-efficient transverse unidirectional scattering when the silicon hollow nanodisk is located at a specific position in the focal plane. Moreover, the manipulated unidirectional scattering in the transverse direction can be realized in the broad wavelength range from 581 nm to 656 nm. In addition, the unidirectional angular radiation towards all directions can be realized by adjusting the position of the silicon hollow nanodisk. Our research results are helpful for the design of nanophotonic devices that can manipulate the angular radiation direction, and have potential applications in sensing, optical communications, solar cells and other fields.

CEPC Z-pole polarization design studies

In this paper, we give preliminary designs of beam polarization manipulations by inserting three different types of insertions in the Circular Electron–Positron Collider (CEPC) at center-of-mass energies of 91 GeV (Z-pole). With the wigglers in the collider ring, we can obtain 5% transverse polarization in 1.1 h for the precise energy measurement. To overcome depolarization effects as the beam energy rises from 10 GeV to 45.5 GeV in the booster ring, Siberian snakes based on helical magnets are adopted. Finally, for longitudinally polarized beam collisions, a schematic design of spin rotators based on solenoids in the collider ring is studied.
